Magic comes with a price, but how much will it cost?

Born a necromancer witch, Petra fights against her fate of becoming the next queen of the House of Zhir. As heir to the underworld, Petra longs to be free from the chains of her family’s line, but she’s forced to adhere to the customs of dark magic.

Thwarting the plans her grandfather laid out for her future, Petra trades one freedom for another, and seeks out the Eye of the Raven—the only one who can protect her from such vile atrocities about to be bestowed upon her.

Magic comes with a price. Is she willing to pay it? Life is about choices. Will Petra make the right one, or will her ultimate decision set her demise?

◆ Eye of the Raven: is a prequel to the Storm Bloodline Saga. It's a story of how the saga began. Possible spoilers if you have not read books 1-4 in the Storm Bloodline Saga, however this book can be read at any point in the entire saga bloodline. One adventure to another for Petra. I was on the edge of my seat for a lot of this book. I felt the emotions I think Petra was feeling during most of this book. I kept saying “just tell her already!”
I’m very excited to start the next book and breeze through the series. I highly recommend this book!

The story that's being told is fantastical. This is the "chosen one meant for evil chooses a new path..." story that is a prequel to the author's main novel series. I came into this book without having read the series, but this makes me want to hop into it, for sure.

The only critical comment I have is that there is a redundancy in narrating the emotion and situation in some scenes. I feel like the author just really wants us to understand the importance of some things over others - and didn't realize she had already made those things clear.

The world is fantastical - I'm imagining quite the cosmic crossroads filled with things from all sorts of times and planets and worlds - supernatural and mundane. Emmy has done an amazing job of worldbuilding in this book. I really can't wait to explore more about the cultures and customs in her other books.

The main character I got into very quickly and though she frustrates me now and again - I have to remember that she is a teenager - so she's supposed to be that way. As you can see, the author has done a great job of capturing that coming-of-age personality. What got me most were the twists further in. I won't go into them, because I don't believe in giving spoilers when I review a book. But you'll like them. I promise.

I love the idea of Raven Shifters and the Faries and Fae that she has presented. I hope you give the book a chance. I know I'll be giving the rest of her series a chance.

Author Emmy R. Bennett brings us the tale of Petra who has a destiny even she doesn't know. Petra is determined to run away from her home and her mother who wants her to embrace the darkness within. Petra knows that her 18th birthday will be a time of choosing for her but as she runs away she runs into a fae who knows where the items that bind her powers are. She is then meets the old woman to whom bound them years before and is taken to a place called Westera Keep. There she finds out that the uncle that she thought she lost is still alive and she meets Fate. Fate shows her the old woman's past. This all comes to a head on the eve of Petra's 18th birthday and choices have to be made. I won't give away the ending but this is a great novella and I highly recommend it to all Fantasy fans.

As Petra approaches her 18th birthday she lives in fear of her fate, a fate which will see her immersed in dark magic. In desperation she flees her home and seeks out the Eye of the Raven the only one she believes that can save her from her fate. What follows is a great read, a real page turner and i look forward to the next instalment of the Storm Bloodline Saga.
