Coco la cotorra puertoriqueña by Frances Díaz Evans is an excellent picture book for children learning about the Puerto Rican parrot, an endangered species. Alejandra López did the cute illustrations. The back matter includes an author's note about the preservation of the Puerto Rican parrot, an illustration and information about Puerto Rico's flora and fauna, and a glossary.

Coco contiene ilustraciones brillantes que les ensenará a los niños y adultos a formar concienciación ecológica sobre las especies en peligro de extinción, como el loro puertorriqueño, Coco.
El cuento nos narra la historia de Coco, un loro puertorriqueño que va a vivir libre después de crecer en cautiverio en la selva tropical de El Yunque. Coco está emocionado de encontrar loros como él, pero Coco tiene un dialecto diferente al de los loros nacidos libres. ¿Encontrará Coco un hogar para siempre?

The story tells the story of Coco, a Puerto Rican parrot who is going to live free after growing up in captivity in the rainforest of El Yunque. Coco is excited to find parrots like him, but Coco has a different dialect than free-born parrots. Will Coco find a forever home?
Read this entertaining story that also contains a glossary, author's note on the preservation of the Puerto Rican parrot, and information about the flora and fauna of Puerto Rico. I highly recommend this book!

El personaje principal, Coco, tiene mucho tiempo viviendo en un aviario y por esta razón es puede comunicarse con los humanos y las cotorras. Cuando Coco fue liberada del aviario está muy emocionada. Viaja por el Yunque, el bosque tropical de Puerto Rico, en búsqueda de una bandada. Después de mucho volar, escucha un sonido familiar y encuentra un grupo de cotorras. Se emociona, pero las cotorras no la aceptan porque no habla como una cotorra silvestre. Coco se siente decepcionada y temerosa. ¿Cómo sobrevivirá una vida silvestre después de tantos años viviendo en un aviario? ¿Cuál será su destino? ¡Léelo por ti mismo y lo sabrás! Te va a encantar la lección del libro y también te gustará toda la información que la autora, Frances Díaz Evans, incluye en este libro como un glosario y una página repleta de información sobre los personajes y la flora y fauna de Puerto Rico. Además, me gustó el estilo de escribir de Francés. Frases <> me recuerda a los dichos de mi mamá. No sabía que nuestros vecinos de Puerto Rico usaban estas frases también y me alegre en saberlo.

🎨🎨Las ilustraciones son coloridas y alegres. Coco y la bandada son de un verde esmeralda y el Yunque está repleto de hojas. La ilustradora, Alejandra, y la autora, añaden un dibujo del Yunque que provee los nombres de los árboles y los otros animales. Este detalle añade más información sobre El Yunque. Después de que leas este libro, querrás viajar al Yunque y conocer más.

If your are looking for a children’s book that exposes kids to a good cause and to the caring of an endangered species this book “Coco la cotorra puertorriqueña,” is it! Coco, finds new friends in Puerto Rico’s rainforest “El Yunque,” and by being bilingual, Coco helps turn the story around. With beautiful illustrations and a thoughtful, well written storyline your kids and/or students will be captivated. I highly recommend this book to teachers!

One of the most original children's book stories of our time! Coco la cotorra puertorriqueña is the author's love letter to the beloved Puerto Rican parrot and an excellent way to teach young readers about its possible extinction. Clever and imaginative, the story also reminds us about the beauty and the gift of being bilingual. Bravo, Frances Diaz Evans!

Wonderful children's book about a Puerto Rican parrot named Coco. Coco wants to find parrots like him in El Yunque's (PR rainforest). In the story, Coco is in the search of his forever home. Beautiful story touching on Puerto Rico's natural beauty.
