COASTAL CURRENCY: Coastal Adventure Series Number 10

Rate this book
In Coastal Currency, a huge fish kill in the southern part of the Chesapeake Bay threatens many of the businesses on Virginia's Eastern Shore, including Mallard Cove. But what caused this massive, smelly mess? And why does a boat sale paid for with a thousand gold Krugerrands put Murph and Lindsay in the crosshairs of a shady Bermudan? How are a Chinese vegetable farm and a mysterious and classic Chesapeake workboat connected to a drug and counterfeiting ring? All of the crew from Mallard Cove Marina will help to unravel these, and several other mysteries and questions await you in Coastal Currency!

As with all of the other installments in the best-selling Coastal Adventure Series by Don Rich, Coastal Currency can also be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.

Hi! Glad you took the time to read about me, though my Coastal Adventure Series is really much more interesting. But hey, click my "Follow" button and see what kind of trouble I get into. It beats reading the newspaper! (I try to stay out of those these days...)

I was born in Palm Beach County, Florida, and escaped in Y2K, 40 years and 1.1 million new neighbors later. I hate crowds, and by then the lines at the boat ramps on the weekends were hell... Anyway, in my early twenties I crewed on sportfishing boats. I started flying when I was old enough to see over the instrument panel and got my license at 16. I've logged time in over two dozen types of aircraft. I got my start as a real estate investor in my latter 20's. I've owned retail stores and was even a small-town mayor once. Why? I'm still asking myself that question now, several decades later.

When I moved to Virginia, I fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay, the Eastern Shore (VA & MD), as well as the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and that's why my books are set in this area. I write books because it's fun. I create characters that I enjoy 'spending time with' because I write every day.

You're still here? If I haven't put you to sleep or chased you away by now, please feel free to click the button next to the "Follow" one and send me a "Friend" request. Like Belushi said about grabbing a beer in the opening scene of Animal House: "Don't cost nuthin'!"

I just finished a pre-read of Coastal Currency and want to let all of Don Rich's fans know that they will absolutely love this book! Don ratchets up the intrigue and suspense in this book as it features twin baddies, counterfeiting, the Chinese, murder, and plenty of boats. The fun begins when Murph and Lindsay part ways with their beloved Merritt to a shady operator for an insane amount of Krugerrands.

As usual, Don introduces his readers to various exciting and well-developed characters, as well as bringing in the Mallard Cove crew for plenty of scenes.

This arguably is the best Coastal Adventure yet!

There never seems to be a dull moment at Mallard Cove, and Coastal Currency continues the tradition. The primary plotline focuses on the trials and adventures of Murph and Lindsay as they prepare for their upcoming wedding, but the story also features many of the reoccurring characters we love to read about. Baloney, for example, is a character that, until now, I've seen as just providing an element of background humor. Amusing and quirky, maybe, but hardly essential. In Coastal Currency, I see him in a new light, with a quality of empathy that helps me see why he's such an intrinsic part of the Mallard Cove community. All the characters, of course, have depth and humanity, even the bad guys.

As with all the books in the Coastal series, Don Rich writes in an engaging, witty style that makes for such an enjoyable read. He brings his knowledge of boating, fishing, and the Eastern Shores of Virginia together to create a suspenseful and intriguing page-turner.

Finally, I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the author pulls off a little trick that Clive Cussler used on several occasions, to the delight of his readers. Well done.

Murph and Lindsay decide to sell one of their boats that they rarely use anymore. The buyer wants to pay them 1,000 Krugerrands, which are gold coins, $2 million worth. They didn't know that the buyer was a murdering sleaze bag who does business with the Chinese mafia. They print counterfeit bills, bleaching out one dollar bills. The waste from the chemicals is highly toxic. This results in the massive destruction of fish when the waste is dumped. Oh, and he also plans to steal back the gold coins. And that is just the beginning of Murph and Lindsay's problem. There is some comic relief when a gigolo comes to town and meets his match. Once again, Don Rich has hit the bull's eye by writing yet another highly entertaining book in the Coastal series.

Another Don Rich coastal adventure that turns pages and keeps you engaged. Most of his family of characters are here along with one or two new ones. Not that it matter with the story but the Kindle edition has the best cover art yet for the series. I enjoyed this story very much and I'm reluctant to say too much so I don't accidentally give away plot points but it again proves to me why Don Rich is one of my favorite coastal/boating adventure writers. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
