Elizabeth and Darcy play their parts as a secret society works to take down Wickham.
Elizabeth Bennet was entirely surprised when Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy proposed marriage to her. He was more surprised when Elizabeth forcefully rejected him. Colonel Fitzwilliam, caught in the middle, fuels her considerable self-doubt. Had she been wrong about the rude and snobbish Mr. Darcy?
Jane is shaken by events of the past, and the scales fall from her eyes, revealing to her a world filled with evil. Her anger toward Bingley pushes them apart. Can Bingley’s best efforts overcome poor odds or has Jane moved on for good?
Wickham remains on the loose, ready to take advantage of more women, but The League won’t let that continue. Darcy and Elizabeth are asked to deceive those around them for a good cause. It is one last opportunity for Darcy, but will it be enough? And what is The League of the Golden Daffodil...?
The Expanded Edition adds ~160 pages, including 4 additional short stories that continue the adventures of The League of the Golden Daffodil.
I am a scientist by training, but a writer at heart. I have always loved reading with a passion and turned my hand to fanfiction a few years ago. I write stories similar to the ones I enjoy reading. They are interesting but light, romantic but not steamy. I am a super fan of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, and have been having a wonderful time writing P&P variations, exploring how new circumstances affect the beloved characters. So far I have published two novel-length Pride and Prejudice variations plus one short story via Amazon. My books include ‘I am Jael’ and ‘The Blind Will See’.
I read The Golden Daffodil before and liked it very much. I love that the author put out this expanded edition and added the other short stories to enhance the main story. I think that this is her best book that I've read so far. I certainly would like to see a sequel.
I love a good surprise and this story had me! Lady Catherine and her daughter created the Golden Daffodil society and wow this changes everything. I was really happy that Anne got to be the hero along with her mother. Darcy was so supportive and helped Elizabeth become members. This is a story not to be missed. I will say this is not another retelling of P&P with some slight changes. This story is imaginative and really is well written.
If ever there was a need to have something in text recreated in real life, it would be a League of Women with the help of caring men to hunt down to deal with the perfidious creatures that call themselves men knowing they’re nothing more than rapists - lowlifes that prey upon innocent women. God Bless the men that backed these courageous woman not only in this story, but men of today that love and support their women defiled by these brutal men. In our story, this group took down not only Wickham, but other degenerates like him. The entire back story that started this League of Women was a surprise, but it was the push needed to punish those responsible. Loved how the League changed the youngest Bennet daughter. Story also gave a new respect for Lady Catherine’s husband, Sir Lewis de Bourgh. Enjoyable story. The cat and mouse scenarios that took place to trap the offenders was brilliantly detailed and written.
I enjoyed reading this story, especially the four short stories at the end. I believe that I had read one of them before concerning Lady Adsbury. The origin story of The Golden Daffodil was quite sad. I wondered what caused Lady Catherine to get involved in an organization that catered to the needs of all women, including the lower classes. What happened to her was shocking, and I don't blame her for not wanting to spend the rest of her life with such a man! Sir Lewis deBourgh was a much better choice, and he supported her without questions. Wickham met a just end still refusing to acknowledge his own guilt in his impending death.

A very interesting and unusual premise in this adventure filled variation inspired by author Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Laraba Kendig. I enjoyed it immensely.
Protecting women is the subject of this P&P variation. The League of the Golden Daffodil is a secret organization dedicated to the support of women that have been mistreated and abused by men. They also intervene when necessary and possible. The Bennets of Longbourn come to their attention when Miss Elizabeth Bennet of Longbourn visits Mrs. Charlotte Collins in Hunsford. The League discovers that things are happening in Meryton that necessitate that the league become involved for there is serious danger there and the league must not fail. I'm not going to share who is behind the League, you will have to read the book to find out. This is an expanded version which features more stories about League as well as why it was founded. I loved this book from beginning to end. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. This would make an awesome movie or tv series.
This story took me down a path I was not expecting. Partly because I didn’t bother reading the “about” part because any story by Laraba Kendig is always good. I got the audiobook narrated by Harry Frost to go with the ebook and as always Harry brings the story to life even more.
This story starts off in Kent with Darcy‘s disastrous proposal and within a short time Darcy and Col Fitzwilliam’s world and reality is turned upside down. A plan is formed to remove Wickham so he can no longer endanger young ladies. This plan includes Elizabeth and Darcy in a courtship, yep, right after his disastrous proposal and her refusal. Sit back and see how the plan evolves and what additional characters are brought in to make the plan successful. Because this is the expanded addition, we are able to get a few very short extra stories on other adventures. This was a fun but serious story and one I will gladly read or listen to again.
I read this story on FF, but this expanded edition makes it all so much better. There was several "epilogues " that round out the storyline really well. Our standard cast of characters are all present, but their storylines all differ from canon. No angst, very quick read.
If you liked The 1st version of The Golden Daffodil , you will love this expanded version! If you loved the 1st version , You will be in raptures delight over this expanded version. Truly! 5 stars is not enough !
I have read the non expanded edition. I loved it so much I wanted to read the additional stories. I loved all the characters; especially Lady Catherine. I highly recommend!!!
This was a true adventure that showed a great society that took out people who harmed women especially women of lower classes. Great story plus more. Marana is a great writer and I so look forward to reading more.
When The Scarlet Pin kernel met Pride and Prejudice!
I loved this book! From the moment of the signet ring to the Baroness Orczy...what a ride. To deftly combine two of my favorite stories of all time. A triumph! Please do more stories of the League!!!
A new take on Lady Catherine she was so good in this plot that putting down this book was very hard. I just kept repeating one more chapter and by the time I knew it. I had read five more chapters and still couldn’t put it down.
Really enjoyed this book could not put it down loved the original, this is the extended version and the extensions are great to me a another book could be written.
For me, Laraba Kendig variations are a must buy!!! This one is a wonderfully written variation of P&P. All of our favorite characters are as well as some new ones that team up to fight the villains of the storyline.
Lady C is much different in this version and is very entertaining. Anne De Bourgh has a much stronger personality, along with being physically stronger.
The story starts after the infamous proposal at the Hunsford parsonage. Lizzy, Darcy, and Col Fitzwilliam are brought into the League of the Golden Daffodil after Anne hears a conversation from a hidden office at Rosings. The leader of the League, Lady C, is informed of the situation concerning Wickham and agrees with Anne that it is time he is dealt with.
I highly recommend this variation to anyone who enjoys a slight deviation from the original.
There is also a companion audiobook performed by the wonderful Harry Frost!!!!
