What if our dreams existed on a separate plane of existence?
Rainier, the self-anointed ‘God of Dreams’, rules over the dream realm - a place where dreams from all realities occur. Rainier and those in his favour are able to harness the secrets of the dream realm to not only spy on their rivals, but also influence their thoughts and feelings through their dreams.
Theodore Moore, a young man living in present-day Manhattan, wakes up in an unfamiliar place. At first, he believes himself to be dreaming, but as the days pass by, he gradually begins to worry that he is not dreaming at all, but is in an entirely different realm of being. Now stuck in the mysterious land of Utrudaf, Theo must learn to navigate the dangers of a ruthless world filled with magic, war, politics, and of course, copious amounts of wine - all to find his way home. But things are never so simple. The God of Dreams is on Theo’s tail, confused and furious about Theo transcending from his reality into another. The events set in motion are destined to wreak havoc across Utrudaf... and much further beyond.
Sun Cream For Bees is the first entry in the Dream Farmers series, and the story is told from nine diverse alternating points of view.

4.5 scaled to 4 on here. The concept of dreams has always been an interest of mine. So when I stumble onto a fantasy book that mixes dreams and classic fantasy together I was hoping for something good.
I was not disappointed. This book is close to 5 but unfortunately there was one character view I had less interest in compared to the rest) though will wait for part two to fully decide how little), this in turn slowed the pace down for me somewhat. Also, due to this being part one, the cliff hanger is huge and leaves so much left to answer. Which is expected but leaves part two to keep the exceptional start of this story going.
Apart from this, Alexander Graeme has a very approachable, yet beautiful way of writing so many characters and world building. I appreciate the lore and intrigue he has crafted into a world and book that is only 500ish pages long and I hope to see more when I purchase book two.
Theo and Dimia are my personal favourite characters within the book. I love a character out of place and Dimia’s character development is subtle but her world views and philosophical thoughts had me thinking myself.
Can’t wait to grab book two and see where this wonderful start to a series takes me. Perhaps if part two answers the lingering questions and keeps the story at a constant pace as this book did, I will retroactively give it 5/5.
An absolute magical book with such intriguing characters and storylines. The author really takes you for a ride with his fantastic world building! I was reading faster than ever because of the excitement. Lovely story, thank you
