USA TODAY Bestselling Author, Stephanie Fowers loves bringing stories to life, and depending on her latest madcap ideas will do it through suspense, fantasy, historical, contemporary, and of course... romance, romance, romance. Presently, she lives in Salt Lake where she's living the life of the starving artist.
Vampires...cemeteries...the mystical swirls of magic and love all convene in New Orleans between rival family businesses. Harker and Mia had a hilarious cute meet and this story swiftly takes the reader on a whirling adventure throughout the city, all culminating at the masquerade ball.
While this is a novella, and I would have loved more details in this delightful story, I loved the adventure and the hints of the other world surrounding the pages. Great characters and sweet romance in a notable location.
Content: mild romance

This was a story in which two companies are planning a merger. Mia, the daughter of one of the company owners was invited to stay the week prior to the masquerade ball (the ball in which the two companies will meet). Harker lives in the guest house of his mother's mansion. One night he sees lights on in the mansion and goes to investigate. He meets Mia and they hit it off. However he realizes that his evil step father and mother are just trying to get into her father's company. Harker tries to fight his feelings for Mia simply to fight against his mom and step father. But when his step dad doesn't get what he wants he breaks up Mia and Harker. After some time apart and realizing their true feelings. They have to fight for what they want and learn to trust. I was given an ARC of this book by the author. The review was left voluntarily. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is a bit of an unusual story with vampires, ghosts, secrets. . . It takes place in New Orleans which is a city of a little unusual things.
Mia is in New Orleans a week prior to a masquerade ball and is staying at the mansion of her father's business rival but they hope to form a merger between the companies. While there, she meets Harper, the stepson of Mr. Vladeti, the business rival. At first, she seems him as arrogant and rude but as she spends time with him, she begins to see him in a different light. Is she in danger of losing her heart or her life? Will Harker be her protector or her enemy?
This is a quick read that has a bit of mystery.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I thought the way that Mia and Harker met was cute. They were set up by Harker's mother and stepfather. His stepfather was wanting Mia's father to merge his company with his own. Vladeti (stepfather) thought it would be easy once Mia and Harker became a couple. Would Mia see through this facade? Or would she find out the truth before it was too late? Was there any hope that she and Harker would ever be together? All the answers are in the book.
I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opinion.
Vampire lore, old mansions, jazz, parades, and cemeteries. This colorful setting is perfect for romance.
As always, Stephanie's descriptions make the setting come alive and put you into the action. And there IS action ...flirting, passion, kissing. Mia de Mornay finds more than she planned on in New Orleans!
And, only you can tell if vampires exist with their icy sharpness and deadly, life-sucking greed.
This is a surprising romance, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I loved this book! It was a great escape for a short amount of time. I love Stephanie’s books and missed the character development she usually has in her longer books. You get a brief glimpse into the characters, but I wish the book had a little bit more. Mia and Harker fight the attraction they have to each because of a misunderstanding. There are vampires, cemeteries and beignets! It made me want to visit New Orleans again. If you’re looking for a quick, clean, enjoyable read, this book is for you!!
This was everything good I’ve come to expect in Stephanie Fowers’s writing! A cute, lovably quirky couple, an interesting premise for the obstacle(s) to their relationship, a little bit of spooky, and some well incorporated humor! This one was a shorter story but very well balanced for the length. I loved the subtle nods to Dracula as well. Quite an enjoyable read!!
Fun quick read. They fall in love quick in New Orleans. Mia and Harker are too cute together. Thrown together by scheming family, the fall for each other in-spite of what lies ahead from Harker’s mom and step dad.
