The Hal Leonard Guitar Method is designed for anyone just learning to play acoustic or electric guitar. It is based on years of teaching guitar students of all ages, and reflects some of the best teaching ideas from around the world. This super-convenient Complete Edition features the new and improved method books 1, 2 and 3 spiral-bound together, available as a book with three CDs (00697342)!
A decent book that will help players of all ages get started. But it won't take you to the intermediate and virtuoso level. for that you will need the book How to Become a Guitar Player from Hell, which contains a lot of techniques this one leaves out, such as arpeggios, finger tapping, muted harmonics, exotic scales and chords, modes, playing "outside", and more. How to Become a Guitar Player from Hell also contains never before published methods such as the "wah-wham" technique, unorthodox tremolo bar manipulations, and radical outside-the-box thinking exercises. Google the title to find out more about that book.
This is my favorite introduction to guitar book and I highly recommend it to anyone staring out. I do wish it had additional coverage of electric guitars vs acoustic and common guitar tab
