This is a collection of 12 essays by different experts in the field of esteem. It's interesting to note that none of them are male. Some writings are only marginally related to the concept of esteem, many are simply poorly written and a few are completely unintelligible.
The contribution by Phyllis Sisenwine seemed to be most on-point and stood out from the rest. The highlights of her essay include:
* Don't compare yourself to externals * Practice positive self-talk, self love * Don't rely on acceptance from others, respect yourself as you are * Focus on what makes you special * Surround yourself with supportive people * Make time to take care of yourself * Discover your life's purpose and make it happen
A few others points that could be gleaned from the works:
* Esteem is how you measure your own worth and the power you allow yourself to have. * Often, a negative emotion is a signal that we're focusing on a limiting belief about ourself. * Circumstances don't limit us but instead it's our belief from past experiences. * Self esteem is found in ourselves and it doesn't come from others. No one can take it away from you.
Overall, this was a bit disappointing. This is an important subject and could have had more scholarly treatment. This compilation was a bit "fluffy."
