Oh, No… Hacked Again! A Story About Online Safety by Zinet Kemal is based on her own children’s experiences with internet safety. Seeing her children go through this experience, led her to write a book so other families can avoid some of the dangers of the internet.
This informative children’s book is written from the perspective of an eight-year-old girl. It is broken out into five chapters, the story begins, the panic, the take over, doing the right thing, and the lesson. I really liked how the author broke the story down in this way. There is a lot of important information in this book and if it was not broken out I feel some children would get overwhelmed or lost. Breaking things out into chapters like this allows for an adult to read to or with the child and pause to discuss what happened and how they feel or relate to the story.
Elham loves to play online games and has had the unfortunate experience of being too trusting of people she meets online. Twice she had her game account hacked, she lost everything she had worked for. Kids today that play Minecraft and Roblox will be able to relate to how much work goes into collecting everything and making the perfect avatar. They are also constantly bombarded by the ads to earn free currency and all too often those scams look real. This book explains how, if it sounds too good to be true it is, and if you are unsure always ask an adult.
At the end of this important story is a page of lessons learned from the book, the number one lesson, never ever share your password with anyone, no matter how much they claim to be your best friend and are going to help you. It goes over other internet safety rules that parents can walk their children through and discuss. There is also a page on internet vocabulary so when discussing these topics they can look up words they may not have heard before.
Oh, No… Hacked Again! A Story About Online Safety is a practical children’s book to introduce the idea of computer safety to young elementary kids through middle grades. The message is told in a language that is easy to understand and the artwork fits well with the story.

Hilarious, Cute, Charming, and Informative.
Oh No Hacked Again is made especially for children and tweens. While that’s the case, it has nuggets in it for everyone particularly adults. I say that in part because there has been a rise in online accounts being compromised by hackers particularly amongst adults on Instagram. I’m not exactly certain how it keeps happening but I presume that it’s due to phishing attempts as the author so eloquently outlined in this book while using her daughter as the titular character.
What I loved most about it is that the author incorporated various members of her family throughout the book itself. It made it akin to a memoir in that sense. What I found most charming was her daughters recounts of being hacked for a second time. Those people that hacked her were people who were supposed to be her friends. Her frustration and range of emotions literally jumped off the page for me in a comedic sense of being. That in and of itself was a byproduct of the author working with an wonderful illustrator.
This book was a sheer joy for me to read. I would highly recommend it for all children and adults. But not only that, I can’t wait to recommend and share it with my colleagues given that I’m an Engineer and IT Professional when I’m not publishing books myself.

Such a realistic and important story
In this internet age we live in, it’s so important to keep or cyber information safe! And learning that as a kid now will really help to ensure your online safety into adulthood later. This is a great read to introduce your kiddos to early cyber security concepts.

awesome book, timely lesson
I’m an adult and I enjoyed this book! It breaks down the importance of protecting your privacy online in a way that children (and adults) everywhere can relate to. It reflects current situations without making it a scary thing. Well done!

I’m a cyber professional and this was spot on!
Great short read that I cannot wait to share with my kids. Yes I read it all by myself first. It was that good. The lessons enclosed are timeless.

Hello I think this book is great because it teaches us what to do in case if you get your account hacked I liked it because it reminds me of the game I play Roblox, in Roblox there is an in game currency called Robux in the book the currency is coins. What I learned from this book is don’t share your personal information to a suspicious site, with one password who knows what the hacker might do. I also liked the part when they added the verification code or the token to her account so if anyone tried to hack her they wouldn’t get the code because they don’t have their Gmail. I rate this book a 10 out of 10, good book. That was my summery of the book Oh, No Hacked Again.

Wow, this was a fun, insightful and beautifully illustrated book. Kids will learn about the importance of being safe while using the internet or playing games online. The author also provided definitions of some important terms at the back of the book. This book is fun and yet meaningful. It also inspires children to learn about a STEM career. Love it and I highly recommend it.
