What a well-developed and beautifully executed concept -- with plenty of humor for kids and adults alike. Meg and friends (10-years-old) adventure to some pretty cool places, like visiting the Love sign in Coeburn, seeing a rocket launch, and touring a "Cinderella Town" known for a special kind of beauty.

The way VIRGINIA IS FOR ADVENTURERS is laid out is very cool. Between breaking down the scavenger hunt into days, the clues sprinkled throughout as a creative way to drive the plot forward, and the use of real pictures and drawn ones, this book is just so wonderful. I learned a lot and had as much fun as any kid will reading this. It's really nice having a book like this in your personal library, with light-hearted stakes at the center of a story about making memories, exploring the world around you, and doing it with the people you care about.

Oh, and it's worth getting to the end to see what the kids' prizes are for all the exploring they did :)

This book is an absolute adventure and delight. I love exploring an area to the fullest, and I will always advocate for texts who help someone to do that. What’s excellent about Fisher’s book is also the fact that it can be adapted for different age groups. For younger kids, the clues can be presented independently and then the guidance and story can come from the parents. For older kids, they can be given the book as a whole and encouraged to solve the problem alongside Fisher’s protagonists. Furthermore, for those who are stuck at home and unable to physically visit Virginia, I believe this story offers a sort of armchair adventure that can help them to explore different places from the comfort of their current space and give them a taste for what is out there.

I had such a fun time reading Virginia Is for Adventurers! It is an adventure about young Meg and her friends as they go on a statewide scavenger hunt through various towns, multiple natural landmarks, and even the gravesites of a few presidents. Along the way, the kids solve clues and puzzles, and Meg explains some of the basics of life in Virginia. My favorite part was that the book also includes pictures of various locations and sights throughout the state. While the route could be retraced in real life, it is also perfect for children and their parents who want to experience what Virginia has to offer without even leaving their couch! Highly recommend for a fun, educational time the entire family can enjoy.

What an awesome book! I love this idea, like the television show, “The Amazing Race” for kids. Fisher gives us a very well-studied fiction book filled with learning about Virginia’s rich history…all without feeling like learning from a textbook. The characters are funny, relatable, and loveable, and their adventures show good examples of teamwork and insight into how the characters are figuring out the clues. There are a lot of facts peppered throughout the text, and the pictures are great! The entire book is set up in a very fun and interesting way. There were quite a few things this forty-something didn’t know! I think this is a must-read for anyone wanting to know more about Virginia.

Who doesn’t love a great scavenger hunt? This one incorporates travel, history, and lots of fun for Meg and her friends (and the reader!) as they race to find and solve clues and win the hunt.

The team visits some really cool places, including many steeped in Virginia's rich history. It’s a fun way to learn about a part of our country, whether you’ve never been to Virginia or were born there.

Readers will enjoy the friendship and camaraderie as they follow Meg and her team on their adventures. A great book to add to the family library and share together.

Clever, Fun, and Entertaining!

As a history nerd and travel buff, I had such a fun time reading "Virginia Is For Adventurers" and following the clues along with the entertaining characters. I have been to some of these interesting locations, but now I have a list of new places that I can't wait to check out! Such a wonderful concept and execution -- plus a great read even if you live far away. It makes you feel like you're right here in Virginia. My only complaint is this book wasn't around when my 17-year-old son was younger. We would've had a blast doing this awesome scavenger hunt!

I absolutely adore this book as an avid Virginia traveler myself! It's quickly become one of my all-time top favorites just because it's so niche. Geared towards kids (yes, I know I read a lot of YA novels, it's a thing, I promise I'm not braindead-- sometimes it's nice to curl up with a cute story instead of Tolstoy!), it takes the characters, and the readers via them, on a scavenger hunt across every region of Virginia, talking about all the sights and stories of this state along the way. It even shows off the LOVE signs and LOVE sign hunts. Exploring the places I've visited before via the written word was a delight, and it's clear the author shares a deep love for Virginia through the lovingly way she described all the amazing natural and man-made wonders Virginia has in story for the adventuring travelers. I relate to this book so much. It makes me want to travel my state even more than I already do! I picked the book up in Monticello, and it has all the great adventurous Virginia vibes to me.
