Rate this book
Pro Don't quit your job when the boss is your ride.
Uly moves from Atlanta to south Georgia to take a new job doing honest work maintaining utility poles.
Rachel is done with him. She rejects his on-again, off-again attempts to maintain a long-distance relationship.
He's assigned to a crew that travels to Savannah. On the job hard work isn't the problem, but when Uly stomps away in a huff, you know it's the boss's fault.
Jobless, on foot, phone dying, a few dollars from penniless, and suffering in the hot summer heat, Uly buys a ticket for an off-brand bus to Atlanta.
That's when things go from bad to strange.
Uly takes a long detour, embarking on a journey of personal discovery and spiritual growth.
Faith, perseverance, loyalty, and generosity wrestle with fear, injury, humiliation, and Uly's own cluelessness in this contemporary, Southern odyssey.

This book is simply delightful. As a protagonist, an almost-innocent Uly just can't seem to get his act together. And yet, somehow, he figures things out. Or rather, things get figured out for him. That unseen presence of God makes a way for Uly through the hospitality and generosity of people in the South. How that happens is what makes this book so enjoyable.

My reading of Uly Quits His Job took me on a journey through the South, making me feel like I was really there. Each introduction of the characters involved made me feel like I had made a new friend. This is not just about Uly's personal journey to becoming a better version of himself, but all about the infamous Southern hospitality...the kind of hospitality which makes for a better world.

Uly Quits His Job is true to life and delightful!

Travis Williams collected all kinds of keen observations about humans and gave them to the characters in Uly Quits His Job. One after the other comes in, does their little dance that makes them absolutely unique, helps or hinders the main character, Uly, and then gracefully bows out.

This book is also about human connections and how the things we do that seem so random actually add up. It's almost like the "butterfly breath" theory. Way over in Charleston, a human breaths, and Uly's life is never the same.

I love the weird things the characters do that seem so normal to them. I love the gentle, what most people call "easy going" narrative that holds so many Easter Eggs you've got to read it twice and many more times just to catch on to what Williams is doing with his words.

I love how he weaves the extraordinary, hidden in the ordinary, into a sweet, satisfying journey.

With all the southern charm of a meandering country lane, Uly Quits His Job is the perfect companion for an afternoon spent on a shady porch with a cold glass of sweet tea. Travis Williams cleverly combines wit and humor with misadventures and shenanigans as Uly collides with destiny and discovers humanity at its finest.

Travis williams is the author u can't complete his book untill u have patience. Ully quits his job is relatable story of the boy, belongs to a middle class family. I appreciate authors research and choice for the name 'ully' such a cool name.
His narrative style is beautiful and shows author personality as well. His narrative is clear so u can feel it. He didn't try to make the story complicated and i appreciate here to him. I have observed alot of debut author every time try to make their story more fashionable and it's make their story over decorated. But Travis writing style is very mature. And it seems that it is written by a mature pro author, who has written alot of novel before so i appreciate his ability. And i'd say his writing style is simple and that made it captivating. He just feel his writing and that made him marvelous author.
Those who haven't patient should also try to read it to improve his consistency read this book as it is an exercise to improve your focus. I daresay the ability of author impress you as it did me.
Thanks Travis williams to write it.
Iam waiting for your new book

Southern Charmer.

Williams teases the reader at the outset by setting the stage: two young inquisitive boys looking for adventure. Fast-forward eighteen years into adulthood. We find Uly in a far different place. Nearly broke, away from his girlfriend and struggling with a situation of his own making, Uly is on the brink of despair. You can’t help but being drawn into his plight, feeling sorry for the mess he got himself into.

Williams spins a good Southern yarn, replete with a cast of oddball, yet believable characters, wondering how Uly will extricate himself from his financial woes and turn things around. The message the author paints is fairly clear: don’t lose hope. You can’t escape life’s struggles, but a prudent individual will swallow his/her pride and turn to those near him/her: family and friends. And that’s what’s really counts in the end.

Great southern fiction. Travis is masterful. Belongs up there with "Where the Crawdads Sing".
