Who Will Love Me When You're Gone is an emotionally moving children's book to help children come to terms with the loss of a loved one. I can see this book being a great comfort to a child who is feeling confused, lost and alone as they try to understand that their loved one I'd dying and one day will be gone. The illustrations are beautiful and tasteful and show the emotions of the child. This book brought tears to my eyes and made my heart ache for any child who has to go through this. As adults it is confusing and scary enough but to think of children going through this is heartbreaking. In this book Jack's mummy tells him she hasn't got long left and will soon be gone. Jack asks his mum who will love him when she's gone and she comforts him and explains through rhyming verse how she will still be there and present in his life always.
This book is a beautifully illustrated, fantastically written book that would be a companion, a confidant and a comfort to any child going through any kind of grief. The one thing that stood out to me is that in the language used, it doesn't point at any one kind of grief. It could comfort in the loss of a friendship, a loved toy that's lost or in the death of someone close. I thought it was a great bonus that there are doodle pages at the back. I really appreciated every word and every drawing. Stunning book ♥
This book is gold. The thought of leaving your loves behind in this world is a painful one and so hard to explain to children. This book does so in a beautiful way as well as providing activities at the back for children on mindfulness and numbers to contact throughout grieving. It's never easy explaining to children that someone they love is gone. But this book let's them know that the love stays behind.
Who Will Love Me When You're Gone? By Anna Friend and Jake Biggin
This is such a special book! Told through the eyes of a young child (Jack) who is facing loosing a loved one (his dear mum). The book addresses the fears and anxieties of grief asking the ultimate question who will love me when your gone? Written gentley and with positive reassurance that love will continue to grow within them even though they will no longer be able to see them/hold them. Through a child's voice we learn that love grows beyond death and physical connection.
Death for young children can be very difficult but this book is a beautiful way of explaining a gentle process through grief. Everyone responds differently and there is a list of supportive resources at the back of this book to help!
I would highly recommend this book if you too have a child who is facing loosing a parent or has lost a parent suddenly!
Grief is something we all live through but it's the support and love that helps us through such hard times.
The illustrations are simple but beautiful, they remind me of The horse, the boy, the fox and the mole.
This little book is part of the Little Big Hearts series & primarily aimed at the 3-6 year old age range & beautifully illustrated to help a child deal with the loss of a parent.
It may only be 26 pages long, but it certainly packs a punch amongst them. Simply written in a style that your child will understand the message being conveyed & also has several mindfulness activities that your child can do to help with their sadness & loss.
