This companion volume to renowned plantsman and author Edward Augustus Bowles' My Garden in Spring and My Garden in Autumn and Winter (first published in 1914 and 1915) chronicles the charms of roses, geraniums, and poppies, as well as the more rare and unusual summer-blooming specimens of his garden, Myddelton House, just north of London. Edward Augustus (Gus or Gussie) Bowles VMH was a British horticulturalist, plantsman and garden writer. He developed an important garden at Myddelton House, his lifelong home at Bulls Cross in Enfield, Middlesex and his name has been preserved in many varieties of plant. The standard author abbreviation Bowles is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name.
This book is one of a trilogy (the others are My Garden in Spring and My Garden in Autumn and Winter)that first appeared in 1914. I am a casual gardener at best--Mr. Bowles' painstaking details and extensive Latin descriptions bespeak a familiarity with literally hundreds of plants that I simply don't have. A more dedicated gardener might find it useful, but not very entertaining.
