Oof, this book was truly terrible. It seems to have been published by an actual publishing house, but the amount of grammar and spelling errors, absence of punctuation, was awful. This book clearly never saw an editor. This is one of those books where everything is explained via boring, unrealistic dialogue. Nothing left to the imagination, it's all spelled out there for you, including characterization. The premise was interesting as a former archaeologist, and the setting, St. Croix, is a place where I'm currently visiting, so I wanted to give the book a try. But it went from bad writing to worse with a scene where the characters literally dress up in black face (and this was written in 2006). I think that's all that needs to be said to let you know how much this book should be avoided.
