Polly Holmes is the cheeky alter ego of Amazon best-selling author, P.L. Harris. When she's not writing her next romantic suspense novel as P.L. Harris, she’s planning the next murder in one of Polly's mysteries.
Polly’s award-winning Cupcake Capers Series is rich in storyline and location with characters that stay with you long after you turn the last page. She publishes her cozy mystery books with Gumnut Press. Pumpkin Pies and Potions is the first in her new paranormal cozy series.
Cupcakes and Corpses was a finalist in the Oklahoma RWA’s 2019 IDA International Digital Awards, short suspense category. Cupcakes and Curses claimed second place and Cupcakes and Cyanide gained third place making it a clean sweep in the category.
I have been in a weird mood lately and deleted 3 different books from my Kindle before I tried this one. It was perfect. I have read other books by Polly Holmes but it has been awhile. I will be going back to the beginning of this series and determine where I left off. Her "mean girl" characters have a level of pain in them, driving their behavior. They aren't evil, but have been "poisoned" by their experiences. So as deplorable and as unforgivable as their murderous behavior, it is understandable and sad. These are not one dimensional characters.
A star with attitude named Jayla, arrives in town & immediately sacks her perusal assistant. As Tyler is to be her chauffeur for the time the film is being made he immediately suggests that Evelyn becomes her new PA. The film is in a closed to the public set & this annoys Jayla immensely. Naturally she ends up murdered!! Fingers are pointed at the leading man & a few other people. All are witches, some good, but, evil is felt by several of Evelyn’s friends & family. I just had to finish this book once I’d really got to the nittygritty part.
Yet another murder gets solved and we get a little further along on the big mystery. One nit pick I had was that I thought she wasn’t to mention being a master witch. And I hope Johanna gets to come out soon.
Evelyn and Tyler find themselves working for a Hollywood divazilla as the film industry comes to town. As the personal assistant to the leading lady, Evelyn quickly learns why no one likes Jayla Kennedy but she is still horrified as she and Tyler are looking down at her corpse. Harriet has fallen hard for the prime suspect, Elliott Malone, and begs Evelyn to solve the crime before the movie producer is arrested.
This fun paranormal mystery is an excellent addition to the cozy series. It’s fun to see all the ways Evelyn’s powers are expanding. The hunt for the relics to find the Sphere adds additional plot twists to keep things interesting. There is also romance and plenty of witchy magic. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
What a fun story! A murder mystery sprinkled with magic. When a movie crew comes to Saltwater Cove to film, the townspeople are excited. Evelyn and her boyfriend Tyler are hired to be assistant and driver for diva Jayla Kennedy. Jayla is a witch whom no one seems to like. Someone disliked her enough to kill her. The story is fast-paced as Evelyn and Tyler, along with Harriet, try to find who murdered the diva. Lots of actions, twists, and magic. Evelyn has become a master but doesn't yet know all her skills. The clues were there, but so clever, it was hard to figure out who the killer was. Looking forward to more magic, mayhem and mystery from the Melting Pot Cafe.
Evelyn is excited because they are filming a movie in town. Then she meets the leading lady and that lady is looking at Tyler like he is candy. Evelyn becomes the assistant to Jayla (leading lady), but when Jayla turns up dead Evelyn will have to figure out who the real murderer is. Harriet is falling for the leading man and cannot believe he could possibly be guilty. There are more suspects than leads but Evelyn will figure it out somehow. This is such a fun read and I love all the twists and turns.
Another fun read in the series. Evie and the group are dealing with Hollywood and a murder. I rarely guess who the really bad guy is in the stories but that's fine by me. I'm not reading the stories because I want to know who did it but because I enjoy the stories as they unfold. And these have plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested. Plus the lead characters are like the people you'd want to be BFFs with. Read the whole series if/when you can. Each one is a standalone but with an overarching theme.
So, I received an ARC of the 8th book of this series. Before writing the review, I decided to glance through the first 7 books, so that I'd have an idea how the series flowed. Well, the books were all so enjoyable and well-written that I found myself savoring them all. Book 8 debuted 2 weeks ago (my apologies to Ms Holmes for being so late,) and I'm finally here, eager to read it.
Seriously, read the whole series. You'll thank me!
A famous witch, A hunky leading man and then MURDER! Who is to blame? Evelyn continues to work on the mystery of the relics & Sphere but will the Evil forces being sensed around the town by her family and friends put an end to it by finding them first? New love, Old love will they prevail and continue with all that is going on in Saltwater Cove? You will just have to read to out! The next good book in this series.
I love this series! It follows Evelyn in her discovery of witchcraft while solving murders and figuring out how to protect her world. There's magic, action, mystery and a love story. What else can you ask for!
I received this book as part of an ARC team and this is my honest review.
This book didn't work out that well for me ! I have read a lot of cozy mystery stories but didn't enjoy this one as much as I thought I would! I try to do better with the next in series!!
Immerse yourself in this captivating continuation of the beloved series, promising the same thrilling experience that made the previous six installments unforgettable.
