Tamar Japaridze is an associate professor of philosophy at Ilia State University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences in Tbilisi, Georgia. She holds a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Toronto and has an academic background spanning multiple institutions, including Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and École Normale Supérieure in Paris.
Her research focuses on European intellectual history, Enlightenment thought, ethics, and aesthetics, with particular expertise in Kant and Continental Philosophy. She has published The Kantian Subject: Mimesis, Sensus Communis, Work of Mourning (2000) and contributed to academic journals such as The Review of Metaphysics, Arachne, and Die Idee der Freiheit in der Philosophie und Sozialtheorie.
Japaridze has previously taught at institutions including the State University of Georgia, Metropolitan University in Toronto, and the University of Toronto, covering topics from existentialism and moral theory to aesthetic theory and visual arts. At Ilia State University, she teaches courses on modern French philosophy, Kantian epistemology, and ethical theory, continuing her contributions to philosophical scholarship and education.
