In the year 2920, Henry R. Sands invented a time machine. He converted his whole fifteenth floor penthouse into the machine. Henry didn’t take into account that when he traveled back in time, beyond when there was a building to hold up his penthouse, the machine would fall 15 floors. It dropped into Mark Silverleaf’s backyard. The Silverleafs decided to travel far enough back in time to pre-date the arrival of white man in America. They would have the opportunity to influence the tribes and educate them before the arrival of Christopher Columbus. Unfortunately, they discovered that the history books were wrong! There was already an established Viking presence. The main character, Mark Silverleaf, is an ex-Navy SEAL. His wife, Jenny, is a veterinarian and his father is a machinist. Together they start down the long road of leading the American tribes out of the stone age.
When a time machine drops into his back yard, Mark decides to take his wife and father back in time to help change US history. 936 seems like a good year. But when they encounter Indian tribes, and Vikings, things get a little dicey. They teach the Indians how to use their modern day equipment and help them defeat the marauding Vikings.
Troy Baker has a wonderful sense of dry humor that comes through in his writing. A wonderful historical/sci-fi smash up!
