One mother's thirteen year journey with her son through the multiple challenges of congenital heart disease and a heart transplant, where she discovered God's limitless provisions and endless grace. Journey for the Heart invites you to come along and discover for yourself that there is true hope when life screams, "Unfair "
My mom recommended this book to me because it was written by her winter pastor's wife. (Mom is a snowbird.) "Journey for the Heart" by Elizabeth Mitchell is at the same time difficult to read because of all the suffering and wonderfully triumphant. Although she is honest with her emotions, Elizabeth's faith soars above her trials. Her son, James, was born with severe heart problems. This is the story of his thirteen year journey on earth. It is the story of the family who loved him and miss him and how they coped. At the end of the book is an appendix filled with tips for things to take to the emergency room, how to help friends going through struggles, ways to cope, etc. I highly recommend this book!
A beautiful, brutally honest look at a mother’s response when life and circumstances threaten to tear everything and everyone apart. Elizabeth’s response and her account of family trials is a glimpse into how God the Father responds when His people submit to Him. Elizabeth demonstrates just how raw human emotions can become in the midst of excruciating difficulties, but also accounts how God responds, and Elizabeth finds a way to praise Him.
I attended Bible study at the Mitchell home and met James when he was four years old. He was full of life and love. Having open heart surgery myself as an infant (born with a hole in my heart - VSD), I instantly fell in love with James’ gentle spirit and his hunger for life. I will always remember him.
An exceptional book demonstrating a mother's faith in God during her son's health challenges, Elizabeth uses the Word of God to carry her through many unbelievably painful years of trials. A must read for anyone struggling for perspective during a time of grieving.
