The book tells different lifelines if Hungarian Jews that by various means were saved from the holocaust by a Swedish diplomat called Raoul Wallenberg. The stories are connected via a small boy who interacts with them and gives testimony. I read the book in my teenage years in the mid 80ies and was into tears about how this man saved so many but couldn't save himself.
