Chanel was a woman that didn’t care for anyone or anything that didn’t please her. Due to her past, her cold ways turned her into a block of ice. She didn’t want love, nor did she have any to give. She was content in her world until it was ripped in two. Avery was the big fire chief in North Brooke Port. He handled his business during the day and became that family man after every shift. He was loved by the city but couldn’t even get a smile from the woman he laid eyes on. Chanel and Avery battle with just a simple hello anytime they’re in the same room until one day one needs saving. It becomes a challenge when both have to face reality. Will the ice melt or will a fire burn that bridge?
I liked the ladder of love. I felt it had a good premise and lots of potential but it was missing development, fleshed out scenes and story-line resolution. Chanel has a tough exterior and she treats men like a piece of meat, only using them for sex due to what she witnessed from the women in her life. I cringed reading her POV in this book because she came off as ruthless for no reason. After shutting down Avery multiple times, I was curious to see how this story would turn out. It’s a very fast paced story with two different story-line’s. I feel like Chanel and Avery’s storyline needed to be more fleshed out because I never got a chance to see their relationship progressed beyond the first date and them falling in love. Also, the story-line with Shaun and the assistant manager was shocking and I felt it came out of thin air. No buildup or anything. I knew shaun was going to be an issue I just didn't get any backstory about the assistant manager and her obsession with Chanel. I didn’t expect that. I wanted more details about the relationship with her sister and mother. The way that they treated her and used it, I just felt it was more to that. Overall, I did enjoy reading this story, but it needs lots of loose ends to be tied up because it reads choppy. I hope we get a story of August and Angel. I would like to see him box up the ex husband lol
I liked this story, but it needed more! Chanel was mean as hell to men, and I really didn't understand why! We needed her backstory! Why did her family treated her like ish? Where was her father? Why was she left money by people who had nothing to do with her? What really happened to her during her childhood, to make her heart so cold? She seemed to dog men out for sport, and it was off putting! Avery was a good guy, who had his own issues with how he lost his mother; but wanted love more than anything! After a quick chase Avery and Chanel, were full speed ahead without much buildup to their love story. Angel and August were a hot mess! The story ended without us finding out what became of them. Did Angel resolve her issues with Lamont? Does she get with August? The Simone and Shaun piece felt odd to me. What did Simone have to gain by harming Chanel? Why would Shaun think he could get Chanel's money? Toward the middle of the read, it began to feel rushed. I would have loved a bit more development to flesh the story out more. But, overall good read.
You all, I loved this story. Avery and Chanel's story was so sweet. I like meeting male twins; they are often a handful. The twins in this story add to my joy. August was the Chief of Police, and his twin Avery was the Fire Chief. The story was about Avery finding someone to give his heart. You will like Avery. IJS...And thankfully, Chanel finally stopped acting like a female fuchboy... And there was more. Her best friend Angel was married to a good-for-nothing serial cheater. We did not see him much, but who cared? When Angel gets hooked on a forbidden fruit; now that story deserves 185 pages to tell that story. I hope to see more from this town, and its lovely people.
Okay, this book was a journey for real! Because I low key didn't half like Chanel when the story started.😩😂 Girlfriend was mean times ten! Sheesh. I do understand why and I wish she had stomped out her mama and sister at some point during the book! Avery was so sweet and calm with Chanel. He was the embodiment of "slow and steady wins the race." The crazy ex situation was way, WAY, WAYYYYYY crazier than I was expecting.😳 That had me shook! Angel was a great friend, but she was love stupid over her husband. Took her way too long cut that situation and I hated how she used Augie.😑 Overall, I enjoyed Chanel and Avery's slow glide into love and I was happy with how everyone's story ended. This is my first story by this author, but I'm definitely a fan now. 5 ⭐ Stars!
Chanel is the sex them and leave type. She wasn't shown love from her mammy. She was everybody meal ticket. Shaun was the worst, he was clingy, stalker and didn't know how to let go. Janelle also. Her and Shaun would have made a good couple. Simone got them both beat with her creepy self. That's where Chanel clothes went. I like Avery persist. He wasn't trying to hear Chanel's no's. August got caught up with Angel. He right by walking away from Angel. I just want shake Angel. Lamont cheated on her had a baby on her. She still loves him, he's the father of her kids and they been together for years. Love is blind I guess. All that Chanel goes through with her family Avery is going to put a end to that. I looking forward to reading about Angel, Lamont and August.
Ladder of love will keep you focused and ready for love! I love AR & his pursuit of Chanel. Their families are total opposite, but they're both career driven, AR is a ride chief and Chanel a restaurant owner! The relationship had some obstacles, due to Chanel couldn't get out of her own way with her thoughts about men, but AT was that dude he pursued Chanel and didn't let up! Once they had Their 1st date it was a wrap! AR has a twin Augie whom is a police chief, he was caught with Chanel bestie who happened to be married! I can saymore, but I may give a way too much of the book, it's a must read, you won't be disappointed when In looking forward to reading more about WE & Chanel as well as Angel & Augie!
Ladder of love was a great book. In the beginning Chanel was so cold hearted, shoo she was a man in a dress lol!! Her friend Angel had such a good spirit and you dc couldn't help but want better for her. Mr. Avery was something else. I loved that he was so persistent when it came to getting Chanel. I'm glad he got what he wanted even though it took him a while since she was so stubborn. The twist with Shaun and Simone was kind of a surprise. I figured someone was helping, i just figured it was someone in her family. I thought Simone just had a secret thing for her. Great book!!!!
I loved it. AR and August were everything. Chanel was dealt a bad hand in life so she didn't know how to handle a real man but he broke that barrier down and now look at that. Then you have Angel who can't let go if her crazy a$$ husband and all it takes is to see how a woman is supposed to be treated. I wish we could have a follow up on this story. This was an amazing story....
The analogy of a Ladder to describe the steps and process if falling in love was a great concept. Chanel only wanted to be successful. She could not out run being mistreated by family that thought she owed them something. Avery was instantly intrigued by Chanel's beauty despite the circumstance that introduced them. Avery felt a pull to protect Chanel even if she wouldn't admit she needed it. Shaun and Simone deserve a special place in the belly of beast. Augie stepped into a dangerous situation before it properly ended.
Some parts felt rushed for sure because some scenes randomly appeared when I was still stuck in a previous one. The plot could've had a little more meat to it but I did enjoy the storyline between Avery and Chanel. Glad they got their happy ending. I would love to read more about her best friend and Avery's brother though. Happy reading! 📚
I loved it this story was everything. I loved each couple though. I was so happy that Chanel got with AR finally because he was definitely a great man for her. She definitely deserve her happiness no lie.
A good read with some crazy drama. Chanel really had a tough life. Her family was full of users and she attracted the wrong man and worker. But she finally got it right and found real love. The journey was full of drama, but they made it. I am loving these characters.
Simone and Shaun were dumb. How you going kidnapped somebody and then bring them back to your place? Chanel family was stupid!!!! Glad she left them alone. Angel should of been left that love less marriage. Avery and August are such lovable men.
The storyline is great but we got cut off! We need to go through the pregnancy and Augey’s connection with Angel. How are the kids going to feel and what will Lamont do since he thinks his isht doesn’t stink and he letting the side chic run him?
This book was so good! It had a bunch of twists and turns—some I saw coming, but others completely took me by surprise. The storyline kept me hooked from start to finish. I just wish there was a part 2 because I’m not ready to let it go!

Yes 🙌🏽 this was a deeply moving love story! I enjoyed how Authoress Connie Easton explored unhealthy and healthy attachments! The whole romance and finding love was a beautiful piece to read about! 5 star ⭐️’s romance 💘!
I’m so happy that Chanel and AR worked out in the end. I’m hoping there is a book in the works for Angel and August. I would love to know how their story plays out.
