A page-turning story of perseverance, A Season of Disruption, follows a family's journey to overcome a devastating loss.
A twist of fate leaves Murna Moreland, a young Jamaican homemaker widowed with five children. Without the means to provide for her family, she makes a seemingly unimaginable choice. She leaves her children in hopes of finding a better life in the United States.
With no mother or father present, fifteen-year-old Hope must courageously guide her four younger siblings as they care for themselves and each other. Each day, the children strive with one goal in mind - quickly joining their mother.
Time passes, and Murna's dream to reunite her family grows bleaks. Unwilling to give up, she conceives and undertakes an unlikely plan. The stakes were high. If her plan failed, she would remain separated from her family or lose the opportunity to give her children a better life.
Read this heartfelt and captivating story of love and determination paying homage to the immigrant experience of generations of Caribbean women and their perseverance to overcome obstacles that often leave families broken and estranged.

Jacqueline P. Walker‘s A Season of Disruption is a short fiction read about a family in Jamaica who, after a tragedy, have to struggle to rebuild their lives in seeking new opportunities abroad.
The book is told through the eyes of the youngest child, Sasha, and the impact this sudden change had on her family. Unable to support her children in Jamaica, their mother soon decides to migrate to the United States, as many people in that time did, leaving her five children behind until she can send for them.
The book recalls fond memories of their time in Jamaica and their family life. Like how they entertained themselves as children in 1960s Jamaica and the fun times they had together. She talks about her brothers and sisters in detail, the aspirations their father had for them and they had for themselves, and how they continued to work towards it despite their strained circumstances.
A Season of Disruption, by Jacqueline Walker, is a fascinating book for anyone who enjoys thought-provoking stories centered on social change. This story has given me the understanding that with faith and perseverance, anything is possible in life. Jacqueline Walker focuses on the blessings and benefits in “Disruption” as opposed to the assumption by many that it only brings chaos and destruction. One family's “Disruption” the wisdom and direction of a loving father, and the constant sacrifice and unwavering faith and love of a mother got them through it. There are many seasons in life. This book taught me not to stay in the season of turmoil, but to keep fighting until the season of triumph. So I highly recommend it to readers who enjoy this type of theme.
A beautiful and inspiring memoir about the power of love, faith, and resilience. I couldn’t put this book down. Excellent writing about the sustaining love of family that helped this family through a season of disruption. We would all love to be this Blessed.
