Called Out: 100 Devotions for LGBTQ Christians

Rate this book
The experience of growing up "different," coming out in a disapproving environment, having one's identity and relationships questioned or downright rejected shapes the faith of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer Christians in ways those outside the community cannot fully understand. LGBTQ Christians need spiritual resources that speak to the unique joys and challenges of their journey.
E. Carrington Heath offers one hundred devotions on such topics as authenticity, coming out, relationships, chosen family, religious trauma, and more to nurture the faith of our LGBTQ siblings and help friends, family, and allies grow in understanding and faith. Fully affirming of all, sensitive to the diversity of the entire LGBTQ community, and backed by theological depth, these devotions will lift the reader up and empower them for the work of transforming the world.

I checked out this book from the Library after seeing it out in the wild in a bookstore. I wish I'd purchased it on sight! I will definitely be buying this book for myself and possibly also for my church's library. Solid LGBTQIA+ devotional that was encouraging and simple to read and understand. I'd recommend this to queer Christians and allies.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book.
I like that she prefaces each chapter with a verse and ends each one with a prayer. I also like that each chapter is a quick bite if you will.
There were interesting history tidbits that I didn’t know. This book is a great reminder of who God is; it definitely refreshed me.

More of this is needed. I’m grateful for this book. But I want deeper and greater. Still a balm to my little gay soul.

I'm normally not a fan of devotions and didn't expect to like this one, but there are so many reassurances and gentle encouragements here for queer folk who are feeling a bit battered by the world and the Church that I will be keeping this one and re-reading it as the need arises. It's set up as each day being a short essay reflecting on a pericope and it's not startlingly profound or earth-shatteringly new but it is so good to hear. I'm also keeping it as a gift for queer folk newly entering ministry so they have a friend alongside when it gets rough, as it definitely will do, and we all need to be reminded that God loves, and loves, and loves.
