Rate this book
The Incredible 5-Point Scale has sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide and has been used by educators, psychologists, therapists and parents to teach the social and emotional concepts needed for successful social interaction and emotional regulation.

In this revised edition, readers will benefit from work done with the scales over the past 20 years. These refinements now include new scales specifically designed for two groups of young children and those with more classic presentations of autism, including expanded use of the Anxiety Curve.

This much-awaited, revised edition As in their other writings, the authors emphasize the importance of self-management and self-regulation, two evidence-based practices. Free online downloadable content from the author's website includes blank scales, small portable scales and worksheets for easy duplication.

I genuinely think this is one of the worst examples and solutions for autism. Not even because of the book itself, the book is ok, but the people who used this book were abysmal to listen to. The people who used this book never used it right, and it’s very clear that I’m not the only one who’s had to deal with the constant berating of, “This problem’s a 2, but you’re treating it like a 5.” The people who use this book don’t use it as a guide, they use it as a crutch to keep themselves away from ever understanding the child who deals with this symptom. The people who use this book see it as a simple wonderful depiction of autism, simmering down the ENTIRE SPECTRUM into 5 categories of behaviour. The teachers who used this never cared about why you were acting like this, they just cared about how you were acting wrong, and needed to act right. The way these categories were used genuinely made me want to kill myself at times, I finally remembered this book a couple of days ago, and I’ve finally brought myself to vent my frustrations of how awfully my teachers depicted this book. No, I’m sorry ma’am, but you cannot simplify autism into “5 easy to understand categories.”

Eye-opening

This book should be a must read for all special education staff that have students on their case load with behavioral goals.
