Yep this was one of those books that seem to be ok I need to finish this series. The book pretty much made sure that I have no interest to ever read another series by this author. I never enjoy the series that end with the MC getting shafted by higher powers that the MC never had the ability to do anything to. So nope done with this author.
Goddess is the epic conclusion to JJ Thorn’s The Weight of It All series, and it delivers everything I hoped for — and more. Terrence’s journey reaches its peak as Dungeon challenges, political pressures, the looming war, and divine forces all collide in a high-stakes finale.
Some highlights that really stood out:
The appearances of the Goddess answer long-standing questions about Affinities and the Dungeon, though I have to admit I really disliked her after a certain conversation with Terrence.
The Dungeon runs remain tense, creative, and dangerous. Terrence’s inventive use of his Weight Affinity keeps impressing, and his problem-solving to protect his friends is a core highlight of the series.
The political and war-related pressures are intense. The drafting, favoritism, and corruption make the outside world just as threatening as the Dungeon itself, and Terrence’s father being drafted adds serious emotional stakes.
The team dynamics continue to shine — Tom, Omar, and the others all have powerful moments, showing how much they’ve grown together.
The ending of the book is incredibly emotional — I was in tears by the final chapters. Terrence’s choices, the losses, and the resolution of the story make this a truly satisfying conclusion to the series.
Goddess perfectly wraps up the series, combining action, clever affinity use, politics, divine intrigue, and heart-wrenching emotion. It’s a finale that left me deeply moved and fully satisfied with Terrence’s journey.
Reason for headline is author slaughtered the tale with this book. Which saddens me with how much I enjoyed the series till now. It not the fact that this is the end but a mixture of things that ruined the story. 1st instead of a good story and building it becomes oh we fought this boss, now we fighting this boss. Also book goes against previous books for instance goddess gives all free will. Ha she threatens blackmails then throws him into a perpetual hell for evermore. Like what is that. He overlooks so many things from previous books and just boom do this boom do that boom u just a puppet your past emotions gone. Like many I'm sad once a great series comes to am end, but this book by itself has made it clear J.J. Thorn doesn't know how to end a book or just gets bored with his own creation and slaps something together real fast so he can cast it aside. After this book I won't be reading anymore of his works.
WTF is that ending, the book series has been okay nothing amazing but this last book has had one of the worst endings and just middle finger to the reader.
Im not going to spoil the ending but its a bitter ending, the author basically screws over the mc and heroine. The biggest issues i have is that everything is tied up to quickly. There was more to explore but just decided to end it quickly, we are just told everything is good now and not why everything needed to be fixed. example the lizard tribes, we never actually are told what happened to them, most humans still hate them. Zane father is still alive. so why how the heck is stopping those three dungeons from collapsing stopping others from collapsing. Second worst ending of the year, i don't know how anyone say this series ended well. Not as bad as the ending for Art of the adept but still left a sour taste.
This series has been very okay. This book wasn't up to that average standard. A boring beginning, a shitty, depressing, unsatisfying ending, and no explanation of the fate of the MC we spent six books getting to know.
I like the story had a pretty good tail To it all But the ending what They did with the character Wasn't right. If you're gonna finish a series don't end it the way you ended it The character deserved better.
The ending felt rushed, there were far too many interludes, and the whole chosen one thing felt like it didn't belong. Overall most of the book felt like the author had grown bored with the story and was rushing through it just to be able to say they finished the story.
This book deserves 3.75 stars i’m round it up we get everything we’ve been wanting so far in the series faster progression more dungeons you name it we get it my problem is the story but I don’t want to spoil anything. It’s just certain events. I don’t feel they were handled properly. Events that probably should’ve been monumental. We’re over in a chapter maybe two. Meanwhile, other events that really work that big of a deal with stretched out among several chapters, and I could’ve been wrapped up much sooner. This is Interlude stuff I’m speaking of. Don’t get me wrong. They were good but I think an interlude should relate to the main story. These, unlike others in the series really did not relate back to the main story like I would’ve hoped. Now there is another issue here and it’s the main story it speeds a longer break neck piece, which is good with wanted this in the author give us what we want it, but it happened so fast and you see so much growth in one particular area. Everything just flies by you’re literally given a mission and then you see it through till the end.
Slight spoilers ahead : To those who plan on reading the book, we don’t mind slight spoilers for a better understanding of what I mean above. Terence Advantis really fast everyone else just doesn’t when you read the opening chapter that makes no sense the fight he has with another character he should easily be able to overpower that person, so why is this fight long and drawn out? It just didn’t make sense. Now I also mentioned how fast this book goals and it goes really fast you don’t get to appreciate anything anymore. Everything just happens. It gets you to the end and to be honest, so many areas in the story, not related to the MC is left untouched how’s that possible? That just doesn’t make sense this time around not when we’ve had so many books building on the foundation here to just rush past, everything seems misguided.
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD I don’t know how to say this the ending is not good nothing it’s a bad idea, but it’s not a good one I get with the author was trying to do, but this is not the story to do that in. This isn’t where you leave the story hanging not like that. We finally truly get to understand why the series gets its name a person truly takes upon the weight of the world and loses everything in the end and we don’t even get to know what happened to him afterwards that sucks. I’ve seen endings handled with cliffhangers or whatever you wish to call this. This is poorly done.
Message for the author : I always like to leave a note for the author, if they read their reviews. The story overall was good for the first books in the series. This one I gave my lowest review. I realize the first book was very slow and scattered. This one was a bit too fast the ending I think was handled poorly. I get the point that was to be made at the ending, but so many issues seem to be rushed past here. Zane just became the kings advisor that wow nothing else here his father’s on the run that’s it that’s all that wraps up. The dungeon migration was handled OK with a beginning, a middle and an end. Even with the side characters, most of them I’m OK with what happened as far as the epilogue is concerned, but so much time in the previous books was spent on these characters. Enter think we just forget about them in the last book pretty much. Even the characters that tagalong with Terrence, this whole journey they were pretty much useless here I think that’s what was most harmful to the story. He was so powerful and they were almost unnecessary. That just didn’t make a lot of sense. If he was going to go off on the journey on his own than it should’ve been that way from the beginning. If the goddess had blessed all of them with the same ability, then it would’ve made a little bit more sense to me again, I see how wheat plays until the title, but ultimately, I think I just got a little mishandled here.
There was only one scene in all of the six books where something like massive weight being swung at an object shows what what happened in a case like that you cannot take physics and throw it in the trash can like this there is one scene back in the last book I think it was where the MC put 800 lb on his ax which is a very small object moving at full force downward into the chest of a man who does not have armor if I remember correctly into his chest what do you think is going to happen when 800 lbs concentrated into that ax of his is going to do I must bring up something else here that ax is a tree ax it's meant to chop into stumps it is not an empowered weapon it is just a normal ax used to cut wood and yet throughout all six books it never broke it dulled one time and his father had to fix it and his father had to fix that but that's it six books and he still has a chopping ax for Christ sakes this book is so f****** stupid it's ridiculous I went through all six books hoping and praying this novel would be different bad at learning anything using that head of his can't think outside the box no creativity on the part of the author he has the goddess and the mortal being stepping in and holding him by the hand which she is going to do from now on every time he enters a dungeon because he can't learn how to use his own ability and talking about the ability itself it's not there he keeps doing the same fracking thing throughout all the books can't learn to do anything else differently that skill of his does not nmc make the one that should be the MC in this book is that girl that is part of Tom's team who is in fact only level three and yet she is so strong with her darkness chains that she can lock down a massive turtle hold down lockdown beings that are a full two levels above her and Tom himself is seen as a better character for the MC of this book I'm tired of this every fracking time he uses massive Mass against beings that only weigh three to 400 lb at best physics do not come into play he should be tossing people around the rooms as if they are nothing Mass cannot be ignored like this
I liked most of this series but it felt like the MC kinda went from wimp to incredible hulk in the last book. Definitly not what i was expecting, but kinda left me feeling meh.
Spoilers:
So i'm just not a huge fan of sad endings and this one was pretty sad.
All in all i really liked that the series stayed away from political and social issues so i gave it higher marks than the story probably strictly deserved. Also, no soft core porn, harems, or gratuitious swearing made the read a lot more enjoyable.
I would recommend the series, and be comfortable with my young teens reading it no problem.
To start with the pacing was very different with this book. It went from following the MC every step of the way to glossing over big chunks of time. The story is still well written.
I wish the relationship with Jen was more filled out. It would also be nice to know more background on the relationship between the Great Protector and the Goddess and why they are doing the things they do. The way it ends Ren feels arbitrary without that info.
This book hit all the right notes for me. I was excited to read book 6 and see how it all ended for Ren and his gang, plus the war! There was so much this writer needed to tie up to complete the series and I think they delivered. Lots of action, some great fighting scenes, it also hit me with all the feels! Definitely a must read.
Great ending to a great series. If you enjoy LitRPG that doesnt get too bogged down in the stats/numbers thing, you'll enjoy this series. If you've read the rest of the series alread, get ready for a great culmination.
I do not get it. Why f... this ending. 10 good pages and I will by happy instead of sad and disapointed. I liked the serie, not the best but good direction. Now I added the author to my "never read a book form him again" list
I did not like the ending of this book. I felt that I had wasted my time reading it. If you want a series to end on a happier note. Don’t read this book.
