Rowan made his money on the pitch by a spatial awareness of everything going on in front of him. As the game's best center back, he was both commander and defender. Yet this child had taken him by surprise. And once her mouth had landed on his, every single thing faded to black.

4.5 stars!

I have been waiting for this novel by J. Santiago for more months than I care to admit after LOVING Tristan and Ele's story, and I am so happy to say that it did not disappoint! We were first introduced to Jules and Rowan's sexual tension in book one. There was so much delicious tension and hate-to-love-you angst growing between the two that developed slowly and beautifully in their own story, and I absolutely devoured every word.
"You drive me insane, but you also make me a better person. You are unflinchingly kind, too wise to be as young as you are, sexy as fuck, and quite possibly the best thing to ever happen to me."

After everything that happens between them in book one, Rowan and Juliana should hate each other. Juliana arguably ruined Rowan's previous relationship, while Rowan has been nothing but a rude asshole to her. However when Rowan is severely injured and forced into a position he has worked hard to avoid his entire life, he reluctantly asks Juliana to pose as his girlfriend to keep his father from playing matchmaker. Against their better judgement, both Jules and Rowan find matters becoming more complicated than either intended as their fake entanglement is thrust into the spotlight while they find their feelings for each other deepening behind closed doors. I absolutely loved their slow-burn and reluctant romance as it suited them so beautifully, and I savored every unexpected yet sexy encounter between them.
There were people who made you feel safe and happy in their presence, no matter the circumstances. For Juliana, Jamie was that person.

Despite the all-encompassing romance that is the main focus of Jules and Rowan's story, there are so many other lovely relationships and major developments that get thrown at us in this novel. I absolutely adored all of the interactions between the royal siblings as we get to see a different and more intimate side to each character. And of course, I LIVED for all of the mentions of Tristan and Ele happy and in love!! There were so many other shocking revelations thrown in at the end that just blew my mind as they hinted at big changes to come. This is a fantastic and drama-filled series by J. Santiago, and I once again cannot wait for the next book in the series as Jamie finally takes center stage with his idol and the object of his fascination, Nico!

Tropes: fake relationship, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, hate-to-love-you, virgin heroine, age-gap, slow burn, sports romance, asshole hero

My Rowan, the surly but sensitive hidden heir of Waverly...

As well as other books, this is my first from J. Santiago. I definately enjoyed it.

First I thought that it will be just a light romantic princess story. Well it was a way more than that.

Rowan was the grumpy characters that you meet in most of the books and at first he was denying his attraction towards Juliana. She on the other hand felt the sparks between them early, but she was still pulling herself out. Than again through the book, they both decided to let go.

J. Santiago had for as an interesting development of the story, showing us a conspiracy part of the story, which was quite interesting to follow.

In equal I loved both of Juliana and Rowan and their love story.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the second in the series, and I would say that you would benefit from reading them in order. If you haven't, then it may take you a little while to understand the sibling dynamics which lead Juliana to be how she is in public, and the rumblings of the royal family issues.

Rowan has had his football career ended by a unlucky tackle. That would be bad enough but his estranged father and mother have conspired to force him to recover in his father's palace. Having rejected them early in Rowan's life, the duke now wants to get the titles he should bestow upon Rowan sorted out - with a marriage. Suitable choices are being lined up and brought to meet him.

Everything Juliana does is to support her siblings - sometimes wild and crazy things to distract attention. One of those was a passionate kiss with an international footballer called Rowan. They both felt the unexpected sparks, but Rowan had a girlfriend at the time, so it really caused a scandal. In an attempt to appease her family she is going on a marriage parade weekend at a local palace. Little does she expect to find the very same footballer is the illegitimate son of the duke...

As he calls in a favour, we know that they are going to rediscover that spark... it is just a matter of enjoying it all play out - and that is exactly what I did!

Looking forward to the next installment - as there are underlying royal plots afoot, as well as romance in these highly enjoyable novels.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
This one started out with a bang or should I say a camera flash. Princess Juliana grabs baller Rowan in a kiss to pull the presses attention away from his sister. And what a kiss it was, what started out as a simple kiss turned into something that sizzled between them both. And made Rowan forget about his girlfriend for a moment until he came back to his sense but by that time the damage was done and the princess was gone.
Now Rowan is laid up after a life-altering accident and his scheming parents are trying to marry him off so he will take his rightful place as a proper royal duke. Rowan wants nothing to do with his father or the heritage that is rightful his. So he calls upon Juliana to help him with a little plan. But you know the old saying about best intentions?
I loved this story and can not wait for more, I did not realize that this was the second book, and will be reading book one as soon as I can. Juliana and Rowan are made for each other, they are both strong independent people but they need each other to survive the thing called royal life.
This story is filled with fun, flirty, intrigue, suspense, evil, scheming, and a love to survive it all. This is a first for me from this author and I recommend it.

Princess Juliana is always supporting her siblings by doing crazy stuff to get the attention off of them which is how she derailed international footballer Rowan's life by planting one on him. They definitely had sparks but he was taken at the time so the scandal didn't do him any favors with his girlfriend. Now, he's sustained a career ending injury which puts him at the mercy of his parents who want him to step up & they're ready to matchmake him to hell which is how he comes face to face with her again. Since she owes him one, he enlists her support to get his parents off his back but will it actually backfire on him?! I loved this story despite Rowan being kind of a jerk in the beginning but he grew on me quickly, and I definitely loved those from the first book as part of the supporting cast. This story had drama, conflict, heat, and even royal intrigue in the pages, so I LOVED it hard. Not everything was wrapped up with the plotting so I'm ready for more! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I was completely lost in Juliana's story! She may have been a royal, but she wasn't regarded the same as her sister. She had more freedom and yet she was fiercely loyal to her family. What might have been seen as impulsive was protective. Rowan was dealing with his own tragedy but he was always drawn to Juliana. When he was at his lowest, he reached out to her. Neither one of them expected the other. Nor, did they expect the feelings that would be involved. I LOVED this book and couldn't put it down. I loved the chemistry between them and the support they offered one another. Rowan's decisions had an unexpected outcome and I was here for it!

2.5/5

This book is definitely not what I thought it would be. Reading the synopsis, I thought it would be a lighthearted story about a fake relationship.

Something was just off about the book and it’s hard to explain. The book was stilted and incredibly confusing. The reason for the fake relationship started to become increasingly invalid as the book went on. The actual relationship between the MC‘s, while considered slow burn, was pretty dry. The last 20% of the book seems to focus on incredibly convoluted politics that weren’t even mentioned beforehand. And all the mild sexual tension had zero payoff.

Overall, I think the book had a lot of potential but the execution missed the mark.

I have to admit it took a bit to get into the story, mostly cause I'm no fan of Rowan. He was way to grumpy and cold for me. Juliana was an interesting character and learning all her secrets was great. I did not read the first book and although not necessary I feel as if that would have been helpful. About half way through the book things begin to get more interesting and Rowan begin to grow on me. The romance was lacking a little for me. It was a quick "oh yeah I do love you" and that just didn't work for me.

Rowan parents who he hasn't been close have taken him to his father's palace to recover but they have an alteria motive. Juliana has planned her life around taking care of her siblings and only took one personal time for her self when she kissed Rowan. Juliana and Rowen do not like each other, but Juliana’s sister is with Rowen’s best friend Tristan so they do see each other. Rowen falls in a game and it’s bad. His mother takes him to his father’s house who he hates. Julianna ends up going there, and Rowen asks for her help. Juliana owes him so she agrees. The tension between them is high but they are attracted to each other. Can they see beyond the masks they both put up ? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing Book. I love Juliana and Rowen and the supporting characters are amazing.

👑⚽️What is an injured and grumpy soccer star going to do with a princess he can’t seem to stand, but desperately needs? This is the story of Juliana and Rowan. From the first moment Rowan was so boldly and very publicly kissed by princess Juliana you know he’s lost. They both are, however Rowan won’t admit it and he outwardly pretends to loathe her. What Juliana did was spontaneous and impulsive. Nevertheless, it sets a course of events that lead Rowan to seek her out for help. Juliana owes him for the public display and Rowan has a secret…and it’s a big one. Little does Juliana know he needs her help to pull off his plan by pretending to be his fiancé.

⚽️👑If you enjoy fake dating, enemies to lovers, secret heirs and royals tropes then this book is one you’d love. It’s book two in the Royally Pitched series. I haven’t read book one so I know this can be read as a stand-alone. In the beginning it did take me a second to figure out a few characters, but all quickly came together and was explained. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing how Rowan falls for Juliana. He just can’t resist.

👑⚽️There is some family drama as well as a few other surprises in this book, which is why I’m keeping a lot of this super vague. Although this is not a retelling, I got major Beauty and the Beast vibes with Rowan’s injury and his broody and grumpy demeanor. You pair that against Juliana’s sweetness as a caretaker and girlfriend, also putting others before herself…definite Belle and Beast type attitudes. Will they be able to pull of this ruse and fool both their families? You’ll have to read to find out. I really enjoyed this one and will be keeping an eye out for future books in this series. 4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“But what was that saying? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Because his mouth was heaven.”

What does a princess and a grumpy athlete have in common? Secrets. Secrets of who their parents are.

Juliana Altamirano is the youngest grandchild of the queen. She’s spent her life trying to please her family, in a way trying to win her place in the family. Even if that means marrying a dukes son.
Rowan Beckwith was just like any other cocky athlete at the top of their game. That was until a tackle went wrong and now his career is over. In between surgeries trying to get his leg back to the way it was before, he was shipped away to a place he never wanted to go. And he would do anything to get out of there. Even if that means faking being in love.

How will everything play out after Rowan is ready to have a favor returned? Will they be able to fake it in front of the Duke and the queen? I definitely recommend reading to find out!!

I loved this story! Between fake dating, the self pity parties, the SECRETS, and let’s not forget the drama! You never know what will happen in the next chapter! I loved how Juliana isn’t the usually princess, she’s a complete badass and she knows exactly what she’s doing to get things to go the way she wants. She doesn’t take the shit Rowan throws at her. I also love how Rowan learning throughout the whole book, starting with learning what he is when he’s not on the felid! I’m definitely now ready to backtrack a little to read the first book of this series! Definitely hoping for a third with a story about you know who.

Thank you so much Grey’s Promo & J. Santiago for this ARC in exchange for a review!

This is book 2 in a series but easily stands alone, It was a great story and very well written with characters I loved and enjoy watching have some fun adventures and fall for each other.

in the first book we met Princess Juliana as she is the sister to Jaimie and her sister Elle. Jaimie is the crown prince and Elle is very bad socially. So in that book her sister faked a kiss with football player and African American, Rowan. She was trying to divert attention from her sister but instead by kissing Rowan she destroyed his romance. Rowan is also best friends with the leading man in the first book who ends up in love with Elle.

In this book Rowan is in trouble and he calls on Princess Juliana to save him, Rowan has a bunch of secrets he is holding on about who he is and who his family is. The road for romance for Juliana and Rowan was not smooth, it had many ups and downs but I loved that Juliana is there for Rowan and he is there for her as well.

This was a second chance at romance, enemies to lovers and a fake romance story. It was hot, sweet, sexy, and suspenseful. My only real issue with the story was that the romance took a back seat to the plot of the story. I wanted more romance with Rowan and Juliana and more I love you's. Because of the suspense I think that the romance part of the story could have been more romantic. It was a wonderful story and I loved all the surprises along the way, but I wanted more romance for this couple.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

After a horrific injury that leaves Football player Rowan at the mercy of his parents demands and expectation who are hell bent on turning him into a proper royal duke, a position he’s fought against his whole life. This time he can’t save himself, but he happens to know a princess that owns him a favor after a very public stolen kiss.

First of all, because of my inability to read an interconnected series out of order, I read The Princess and the Player first and I’m so glad I did because I loved this one so much more and I had a little insight of the characters!

I loved the take on modern regency in this book! I also loved the evolvement of their relationship. Between the fake dating and the forced proximity, they come to care and understand each other. I enjoyed Juliana’s personality a lot! I also really appreciated how they learned to be vulnerable with each other. The secrets and drama was truly entertaining especially towards the second half of the book.

I also absolutely loved the sibling dynamic in this book. To see them go to lengths for each other really warmed my heart! It definitely added a certain aspect to the book. I overall had a good time reading this book and I’m looking forwards to Jamie’s book.

A hunky athlete and a beautiful princess…what a setup for a royal romance. Yep, royal love but it’s hard won as the footballer suffers a career ending injury and turns to the princess for help. Rowan and Juliana have a strained relationship due to the past with a few incidents and loads of hurt so when he needs her it’s not an automatic yes. Rowan has a few secrets and one big one that changes everything between the two. I really like Jules with her big heart and love for her family, especially her sister from the previous book in the series. She’s not anything like her public persona. There’s a lot of depth and smarts to this sweet woman. Rowan was a broody hunk with a few demons related to his father and crushing sorrow that his career was over. He wasn’t especially nice to Jules even when he needed her but he soon learned there’s so much more to the princess than he thought. In addition to the romance there’s the political undercurrent in the royal realm and a potential for vote for independence. This is a slow-build, enemies-to-lovers, fake romance story that’s a bit sexy and a bit sweet with a ton of intrigue. Sometimes the romance took a back seat to the intrigue and suspense plot of the story. I wanted more romance with Rowan and Juliana but overall it was a satisfying read.

I love a good Grumpy/Sunshine book and this story has that and more -enemies to lovers, fake dating, forced proximity, slow burn! After Juliana spontaneously kisses Rowan in front of cameras and millions of people at a game, Rowan’s life continues to be upended when he’s injured during a match and is put into rehab. The injury leads Rowan back home to his parents and his duties – AS A DUKE – that he’s been attempting to avoid his whole life and commences a fake dating plan with Juliana to get his parents off his back.

I loved reading about Rowan’s struggles both with the expectations of him and his injury. It was heart wrenching, touching, and really wonderful to see him begin to grow as a character and open himself up to Juliana. From the moment we met Juliana, I loved her because so much of the choices she makes are for her little sister. Sibling love to that level will always make an impact on me and I loved reading about the sister’s relationship.

This book was funny, heartbreaking, and had wonderfully dynamic characters that grew into themselves throughout the story. Definitely going to keep an eye out for more books in this series!

This book… I don’t even know how to start. At first I was so excited because hello, I love me a hot and broody soccer player but then, wait there’s way more to it than an athlete and a princess… these two banter like no other, they truly hate each other, or so they think 😏 then the book begins to develop all of this royal secrets and the stakes get higher and higher, the more you read the more secrets you discover, until everything comes down like an avalanche and you’re mind is blown! Once all cards are laid out there’s nothing else than Rowan and Juliana, and I’m here for it!!! This is probably the SLOWEST BURN I’ve ever read and I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I absolutely loved it. Their relationship goes from enemies, I can’t stand you, I’d kill you id I could to lovers, I can’t imagine my life without you and the in between is absolute perfection!
This book grew on me as I read along and understood all that was going on. It was a very worthy ride! Now I gotta find time to read book one in the series and I cannot wait for more in this world 😍

The book description provides adequate back story to so I won't repeat it. During the moments following his accident, his parents whisk him away to his father's estate to recuperate. With his future playing career uncertain, Rowan shuts out all his friends and teammates who also have no idea of his royal birthright. He essentially "arm twists" Princess Juliana Altamirano into helping him fake a relationship, but his father, the Duke, continues to up the ante in his disbelief, leading to more and more displays of public affection. Although Rowan's grouchiness and "a**holery" riles Jules behind closed doors, she seems to actually understand him better than most and holds her own as their slow burn continues to heat up.

Although this story does not end on a cliffhanger, there seems to be an overarching storyline happening that involves her grandmother, the Queen, her brothers and sister, and the Duke, that does not fully resolve so I can only assume we'll see more in a hinted future book.

Footballer and secret aristocrat Rown Beckwith has suffered a career-ending injury and is stuck in his father’s estate when Princess Juliana shows up for a two-week visit to participate in a marriage mart as a bride is being sought for Rowan’s half-brother. Rowan concocts a plan for himself and Juliana to pretend being engaged so that he has an excuse not to participate - he has no interest in being married. Rowan doesn’t particularly like Juliana, he thinks she’s a spoiled princess, but the more time they spend together, he thinks his impression of her might be wrong. Juliana embarrassed Rowan months ago and decides to go along with the plan even if he is an enormous jerk. Or is he? As they begin to develop feelings for one another, a sinister plan is uncovered which may threaten their lives - and may require their pretend engagement to become real.

I love this book! I love that the author has written strong characters who stand out as individuals. Julianna especially is strong and self-sufficient - she’s no damsel in distress. Santiago’s writing is excellent, and I appreciate how she allows information to be revealed organically through the story and characters rather than just telling the reader everything. The world she has created - the Federation of Island States - is realistic enough to seem real but fictional enough to allow for an interesting, fictional history. My only quibble is that when Julianna and Rowan finally come together, it’s almost anticlimactic. I’d like a little more heat - this can be forgiven, though, in light of the great story.

The Royal and the Rebel is book two in Santiago’s Royally Pitched series. I can’t wait for the next book. Be sure to read this and let me know what you think - I’d be love to discuss.

A fake romance gone totally wrong, with an enemies to lovers that stems from years back!

Juliana does everything she can to protect her family even if it means to make a mess out of herself. Kissing Rowan should have been an easy task but instead made Rowan cruel against her. Well two year later Rowan needs Juliana to help him escape under the dukes eyes. Rowan is strong and proud, when he was struggling with his injury from his leg he angry mood got worse. Juliana was a free spirted heroine, I loved how she held herself despite her own secrets and shame. Juliana and Rowan together were definitely a slow burn. I love royal romance and this one was a bit different between the son of duke and a princess both forced and controlled in a world that has them putting on a show. It took me some time to warm up to Rowan. At first he is cruel and doesn't have time for anyone, after his injury he becomes a little softer. Rowan and Juliana were completely opposites who walked in the gray line of there fake romance!

Rowan wants nothing to do with his however and while he was playing football Rowan managed to defer the responsibilities that his father is determined to foist on him, but a serious injury has changed his life. He now finds himself having to stay with his parents while they find him a suitable bride never expecting that one of the prospects was a woman who owes him.

When Juliana is convinced by her family to become a prospect for an arranged marriage with the man about to become a duke the surprise was on her as he is the same man whose life she recently disrupted by her need to protect her family. She needs to make up for the past and if that includes a fake relationship so be it, what could possibly go wrong?

Rowan and Juliana were so much fun together as they tried to deny the heat and escalating feelings between them. When you throw in the secrets and family turmoil you are sure to be entertained.

Modern day regency romance!

Football player Rowan Beckwith just wanted to get his life back on track and away from his parents after several surgeries being seriously injured during a game and hopefully Princess Juliana Altamirano could help him get away. His parents wanted him to take his place as the next duke and twenty-three titles even though that was the last thing he wanted.

The Royal and the Rebel takes the frame of a regency romance and puts in a modern setting between Rowan and Juliana with all the twists and turns that made it an interesting and surprising romance to read.

I want Jamie’s story now!

P.S. I loved the princess t-shirts!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author and Grey's Promotions. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was not I thought it would be but it was well written. Rowen is trying to keep his titles so the don't go to his brother. So he reaches out to Juliana and starts a fake relationship because he has to be married in order to keep his titles which she goes along with him. At this time Rowen is also dealing with the injures to his legs. What was supposed to be just them dating turn in to an engagement but Juliana goes with it and even kisses him which their is sparks. Juliana helps Rowen with his leg which turns into a smut moment for them. This moment starts to really change their relationship. There was some funny moments when they talk about star wars which made me laugh. When Juliana grandma tries to locker her up she ends up getting way and getting back to rowen. They finally admit that they love each other. Some very tasteful smut moments and they have a happy ending.

This is Book 2 in the Royally Pitched Series and my first read by this author, and I must say that I quite enjoyed the storyline and the characters. It is a lighthearted royal romance between Princess Juliana and footballer Rowan. These likeable characters and the unique plot make for an entertaining read. What starts out as a simple kiss turns into something more. It is a romantic adventure filled with drama, steam, family dynamic, frustrating moments, unexpected twists, and passion, plus appealing secondary characters to keep the reader interested. A slow burn love story.

This is the second book in this amazing series and is Rowan and Juliana’s story. Juliana is a princess who on a whim she kisses Rowan, which the press capture and put an end to his relationship. After being laid up after a life altering accident, Rowan call Juliana to help him out with his plan to stop his scheming parents plans. Juliana will do whatever she must to redeem herself and make things up with Rowan. This is a well written story which is a slow burn, with palpable chemistry, tension, angst, drama, intrigue, forced proximity, and love, which leads to an entertaining and all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

This was my first ever J.Santiago book and man did I love it. The tension, the hate to love you and love to hate you chemistry between them was just perfection. Rowan being such an amazing grump who kept denying this attraction he felt and Juliana she felt it and she just kept trying to pull away. But when push comes to shove, everything falls to plan right?

Sometimes the fakeness of it all blurs with the truth. I definitely need to read the first book and I can’t wait because I know I’m going to like it as much as I did with this.

A love story filled with tension, suspense, fun and scheming. What could go wrongv

Rowan had a horrible accident and wants his life back on his terms. He doesn’t care what his father wants for him and his life he wants to live by his own rules, no matter what he has to do. Even if that means coming up with a fake relationship. In walks Princess Juliana. Then share a very public kiss and he decides to come up with the perfect plan. We all know what happens with a “fake relationship”. These two become more then a relationship of convenience. This book was cute and I really enjoyed Rowns personality. This book had great bones but dragged a little for me. Once we got into the story, I really enjoyed it. I look forward to seeing where this series can go from here.

This was my first read of J. Santiago and it was amazing. This is a series but can be read as a standalone, which is what I had done.

The two main characters were such an amazing pair. Very loveable and had you rooting for them right away. They had this playful and soft relationship, and then other times they were straight to the point and understanding of each other.

Rowan was pretty cold hearted and throughout the story we see that he learns to be more vulnerable. We can see his rough patches and the struggles he has, one being how far it was for him to lose control and accept help. But thank god for Juliana. He had the "I hate everyone but her" trope, and I live for that. The respect and care he had for her is just *chef kiss* She was capable of anything she put her mind too and was strong and everything I look up too.

The dynamics in this book are amazing. The way the siblings interacted were something, we as readers don't see all the time. It added an aspect to the book that made you feel apart of their family and it helped the development of the story. We can see the way the characters goes to great lengths to help others. If you enjoy enemies to lover, fake dating, and lots and lots of secrets then this is a perfect read. Oops I almost forgot to mention, he is an injured and grumpy soccer player and has some pressure to find a wife. And who has to get stuck helping and fake dating him....Juliana
