A poor man finishes his school hoping his brother would help him in the world, only to find he doesn’t. He manages to find a job abroad and becomes a teacher of English to young men, then finds a job at a girls school too. There he falls in love with a young women.
I found I liked parts of this story but others not quite so much. He was very pathetic and actually made me roll my eyes with how he reacted when the two heads of schools were discussing their marriage. It was obvious and he hadn’t even spoken to the women of how he felt what did he expect? Anyway that was really off putting.
What I did like was that his job was interesting, he didn’t have it easy with the girls school. I liked that he did find love more naturally within the school, though kept losing her. I liked that he didn’t give up on her and searched fir her as he felt a connection with her. They were really sweet and worked well together.
I liked this story but didn’t love it, but I do enjoy reading these easy classics so much. It’s such a great way of reading a dauntingly long classic but made shorter and still getting the same story.
