When Chhavi Gandhi writes it as a couple's journey she truly means it ,as it is a story of Drishti and Pranay, a married couple who wish to have a baby but due to medical conditions have to take the advanced technology route of IVF.
.
The book focuses on Drishti's journey as a woman who lies on the bed everytime to try for the In-Vitro Fertilization to work for her.
.
The writer also talks about Drishti's relationship with her past, her late brother and the feeling of anguish, despair and nothingness of why it happened with her.
.
The author explores the condition of infertility and how people still to this date do not understand infertility. Further the writer writes about her relationship with people who are around her and the other women she knows who are dealing with infertility themselves.
.
The book reminds us that infertility exists in a body for a reason and it is not because it's destiny. Like a true logical doctor, she explains that everytime there is a reason.
.
What I really admired about the author was looking at every women differently and I felt she needed to tell that to the reader to understand a woman's choice however much you disagree or agree with her choice.
.
I definitely want to mention about the understanding of adoption the writer writes about in relation to infertility and I really admire that about her as what she says stand true and I have been one of the many people to be of the same opinion.
.
The Mess In Her Womb reminds you of the woman who is everyday fighting with her body, with the society and the system to turn the mess in her womb into a small baby she hopes for.
.
I hope you pick up this book as it's high time we start looking at infertility with a tender, soft touch and look at birth, pregnancy & infertility from Drishti and Pranay 's perspective.

The Mess in Her Womb is an emotional rollercoaster. It is the story of a couple wanting to become parents but at the same time it is so much more.

Drishti and Pranay, the protagonists of the story are lovable. We do not get much insight to their love story but their bond comes across as genuine and strong. Their journey of infertility takes you through myriad of emotions. I liked how the author made sure Pranay's feelings were validated too, that he too was as much part of the IVF jounrey(the mental health toll of it) as Drishti was. The secondary characters are well-thought too.

It is a story of Hope, of giving your best shot at everything, and of living in the moment with our loved ones rather than waiting to live when our heart's desire comes true. Some desires may or may not come true but with right people, we'd always be content.

"The Mess in Her Womb - A couple's journey through infertility" - A review

Whenever someone asks me, "what's your favourite book?" I will reply to them, say me the genre and I will pick my favourite book. 'The Mess in her womb' is my favourite - I’m announcing this.

'The Mess in her womb', talks about infertility and mental health. The story normalises the reality that seeing a psychiatrist is both necessary and acceptable.

Drishti and Pranay are the protagonists of this book. The author conveys the process of IVF. Along with the IVF, she sprinkles the process and mental state of the person who goes through it. The story accurately portrays the problem of infertility. A faithful picture depicts through the continual conversation. The constant references and detailed explanations involving In vitro treatment help readers to understand.

Infertility, a social stigma is extremely well captured. They are continually pitied by society. This event leaves an indelible impression on the relationship. Stress, frustration, dissatisfaction and anguish engulf Drishti. Her well-wishers irritate her frequently. They have no idea what it's like to be childless.

More than Drishti, I fell in love with Mrs Seema. Most of Mrs Seema’s lines explain truthful scenarios. Her perspective on Children, life and marriage is clean. Dr Bakshi’s piece of advice throws light on the perspective of marriage. Naina and Kriti's hope for life creates a ray of hope for Drishiti's life. But the twist took my heart. The conversation with the brother paves way for the surprise element in the novel. The narration shifts from present to past and vice-versa.

"You have always been a mom haven't you? ... You were always patient, loving, warm and pampering..." - Sometimes, the author's words connect a chord. The final pages of the novel are deep.

This Is Not a Story About IVF, This Is a Story About a Woman

4.5 Stars

The Mess In Her Womb is a unique novel.

For most of the first half of the book I was thinking about a very important thing that was missing from the story - a layman's guide to infertility. I felt like the tragedy that has befallen Dr. Drishti Kapoor, the protagonist, is so profound and yet so hard to relate to for anyone who hasn't been through the same pain, that the book might suffer for it with respect to average readers.

This is no one's fault but the only people who can understand the depth of the misery, desperation, frustration and the mental pressure felt by a woman undergoing IVF are those who have either been through it themselves or have seen someone close to them go through the ordeal. This is a fact. And is very clearly depicted in the story. Which is why I felt that to make any casual reader, who has neither endured nor observed the pain of infertility, care for this story, a little more narration was needed to bring them up to speed with the pain of accepting infertility and starting the torturous journey through IVF.

Later, however, it became apparent that this wasn't a story about IVF - this was the story of a woman and the ordeals in her life. IVF being one (and the most difficult one) of them.

This book is not the simple story that begins with the protagonist having failed to have a natural conception, then go through the tale and processes of IVF and then to eventually be rewarded for their courage and unwavering determination with a baby.

Dr. Drishti Kapoor is not a superwoman. She is a person scarred by her past, traumatised by her presence and betrayed by her physiology. And the only way that she could get through is with help. A lot of help.

Another point that most readers (especially male readers) would find unfulfilling in this story is what a background role the only significant male character in this story has been given. This is addressed very subtly towards the very end of the novel - the narrator (Drishti) could not have fathomed that the male character was going through a struggle of his own. And it is this realization that drives the story to its conclusion, and not the IVF itself.

The author has taken a bold step by addressing the possibility of a "childfree" life (although I didn't like her using the word "childless" in those scenarios). But in the end the driving force behind a decision of going through IVF or considering adoption (or other options) must be a particular couple's own informed decision, not the outcome of social pressures.

This book truly deserves a five star rating but I am forced to reduce half a star because of a few minor language issues.

Overall the Language of the story is absolutely to the point, a well crafted prose with ease of understanding and, at the same time, depth of picturization of situations and emotions with well written words. Only a few phrases felt out of place so much as to push me out of the moment on the pages. And those instances being mostly in the last quarter of the book, I was not happy.

In any case, Dr. Chhavi Gandhi Juneja has written a beautifully painful story and the story deserves to be read.

I'll recommend this book to mature readers only, I feel young adults under the age of 25 would not appreciate the tragedy of the story. But for anyone who is either a parent or planning to be one, this book is unputdownable.

Warning: Mental Health issues including tendency for self harm; and events that may depress susceptible people need to be kept in mind before picking up this must read.

📍The title reveals the main theme of the book i.e. #infertility How strange is the fact that sometimes the basic things one yearns for..a happy marriage, a good caring husband, wonderful inlaws, a good career, money, independence etc..when one has all of these precious things, people find it hard to digest, what a person possibly "not have"? Kids! Where a huge chunk of the population enjoy this blessing, some have to wait for ages getting treatments, praying for a child.

Yes this book is about wanting a child, about loss & grief when one loses her pregnancy, about emotions, treatments & technical jargon but it is also about mental health of the woman as well as the man involved, their stress, struggle & turmoil. Sometimes in wanting a child, the next step after marriage, parents, inlaws, relatives ignore the well being, esp mental, of the couple involved.

This story is about getting back at life, blowing fresh air into your life, focussing on other aspects of your life & not cry over one aspect while ruining your blessings.

“The mess in your womb led to the mess in your head.”

We meet the main character, Drishti, as she is experiencing the agonizing pain - both emotionally and physically - of a second miscarriage. For three years, she and her husband have been trying to build a family with the help of IVF or In vitro fertilization.

Quick stats:
According to the CDC, over 6 million women just in the United States have difficulty getting and/or staying pregnant. To give you even more of a perspective of how common infertility is among women, 1 in 4 experience miscarriage, 1 in 8 struggle to conceive.

Chances are, you know someone who has had a run-in with infertility. So why don’t you hear about it? It’s an uncomfortable conversation to have and unfortunately a taboo subject for the majority of society.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘣 paints a picture of what it is like to experience miscarriage and infertility. Throughout the story, there are other women in Drishti’s life who have gone through similar experiences and women who are pregnant and thriving. Drishti’s struggle isn’t just with infertility but all that comes with fighting to feel a baby grow strong and healthy inside her womb. She has a hard time accepting that other women get to have this experience when she is denied it over and over again.

She becomes so obsessed with what she doesn’t have that she forgets what she does have. She becomes angry and frustrated with her loved ones who don’t understand what it means to be unintentionally childless. Infertility doesn’t just take the chance of parenthood away, it takes your sanity, it takes your love, it takes everything. Does Drishti let infertility take everything else from her? You’ll have to read and see!

It is not just a story, a book but when it taken that it is a real life account it makes me even more emotional...

The mess in her womb is a story of a couple who from tries every means possible to become parents to accepting the law set for them. It is about changing call of stature to accepting what's one is.

The story starts with Dr. Drishti Kapoor, a very well known physician of the hospital, being into one of the bed in that hospital, going through abortion of her second child.... It is a story of a her and her husband Pranay to cope their situation.

The book potrays deeply the parts of the couple waying through IVF processes to have a child(though it not potrays their love bond.)  and it also shows various events that are triggering and tactful for readers.

The social stigma of infertility is shown mindfully in the book. Infertility, even today, is taken as a boon to the society, that people consideres infertility as well as people related to it are taken as bad omen without thinking that what impact it engraves on the couple's mind...

Not just about infertility but this book also talks about Mental Health issues that the couple were facing throughout. Drishti, on one hand she was stressed, frustrated and typically annoyed of her well-wishers who can't understand the sadness of being unintentionally childless.

Similarly, just like on women, infertility also captures mind and feelings of men. Thus, the author does clear justification of Pranay's feeling very well.

It is a very beautiful journey of a couple who was once obsessed over what she doesn't have to accepting and living with that.

Recommended to enjoy the roller ride of emotions and insanity to graceful  journey of healthy relationship.

Happy Reading 📚  😊

“But you know our society, when you don’t raise kids, they raise questions.”
“And how did you handle them?”
“I didn’t. I ignored them.”

-THE MESS IN HER WOMB BY DR. CHHAVI GANDHI JUNEJA

So, here’s the deal - you write a book which speaks about real issues like mental trauma, dealing with infertility, childhood trauma and dysfunctional families with a beautiful cover page printed on it and written flawlessly - I’m sold!
And when the book is in own voice and written by a doctor turned author, that’s an A1+ for me. (I have not even started hyping this book up😅)

TMIHW is about Drishti and Pranay, a happily married couple, embarking on an IVF journey. The journey is not as easy and the physical and emotional trauma is borne by Drishti, who struggles to cope with conception and her full time job as a physician. She is persistent though and bears all those agonising undeserved treatments (both therapeutic and from the society) to have her baby. Whether this journey gives her what she needed or not is to you to find out, but she manages to identify herself and her relationship with her loving husband.

Pros: I thoroughly, thoroughly loved this book. This book throws light on what infertility really is and how much do couples struggle to deal with it.
Enlightens about the struggles associated with IVF and the amount of physical and mental anguish it can cause.
Has a beautiful cover.😍
Written so flawlessly and manages to kindle all the emotions of the reader at the right places.
Also covers the importance of mental health and therapy.

Cons: You know what is wrong with this book? That it is not hyped up much and hasn’t reached a wider audience yet which it totally deserves.

My review: 5/5

The Mess in her Womb was a book I wanted to read from day 1 of its release. And finally it happened. It has made me happier than ever. Not because the story has a cliffhanger climax, not because the story is perfect but because the book has paid justice to the idea of reality and Normalcy.

The book deals about how a couple fights themselves the craving of having a baby in their arms. This isn't easy as it sounds. Drishti, an ambitious, strong and succesful lady, who have never come across any failures in life finds that her inability to give birth to a child as a serious problem. Still being highly partirchial society finds it way to reach to Drishti and taunt for her flaw. The story is around depression, PTSD, feminism and path of self actualisation.

The book is way more than that what I expected. It talks about things that every household should talk about. The repetitive use of 'I was feeling..', to me is a symbol of how important it is to feel the way we want. It projects the importance of individuality, mental health and self image in our society. The understanding that a woman is complete only when she mensturates or gives birth to a child is typically a myth. There are flaws in every person, just differs the way it appears. It's important to accept your flaws and live a life that adds value every second rather than mourn on what you don't have.

Every journey is different and so it's experience differs. But that doesn't make any journey less significant. Everyone has their own struggles and stories and that's what makes us different and unique. Accept it. That will make you the best version of yourself.

This book is one of the profound story I have read any recent. I loved the way the author expressed joy, grief, frustration, anger, satisfaction, togetherness, jealousy and other uncountable emotions in this single book. I felt attached while reading this book though it is beyond my experience. But I must say it took all my heart.

Take away:

1. Yet harsh, but sometimes we need not anyone telling the next steps to do after failing in doing something, here infertility.
2. What society will preach does not matter at some or other point in life, here infertility and seeking help from psychiatrist.
3. Your emotions need to vent out, you just have to find your go to place, here the author had few friends before whom she expressed her grief and fear.

For author:

Though it is the debut novel of yours, I must say your writing style is super awesome. You have gripped each chapter very well bringing the readers hold on your story. I could not stay away from finishing this book a quick. Wish you all the best for this and your future endeavours.

But there is one thing I would add, I am a believer that what happens in life happens for the best; which I found a contradictory point in this story. It is indeed a truth and I have experienced it a number of times.

As a whole, this book has been a great experience in my reading journey. I would like to thanks the author for bringing this book.

A realistic fiction/ contemporary fiction

The mess in her womb written by the author Dr, Chhavi is such a heartwrenching reach eliciting on the fact that how the journey from the mess in her womb lead her to the mess in her head.

The author worked well on cover too and the content is literally awesome, a nice topic she picked..

It's a story about Pranay (an engineer) & Drishti (A doctor), who were married and living in Bangalore. They in the journey of wanting a child goes through constant failures, miscarriage & continuous IVF procedures, Drishti went in depression & having symptoms quite similar to the patient PTSD -Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Lately understanding her deterioration in mental health she diverts from her chase of having baby to mental health first.

In the journey the couple went through pain, hurt, fear, disappointments , rage, loss, love , hope & support.

This book is all about wanting to have a child, about pain and grief when one loses her pregnancy, it's about emotions, treatment, procedures but it also elicits on the fact that how it indirectly hampers on the mental health of the couple & not only the woman involved. As sometimes in wanting a child, the very next step after marriage, parents, in-laws ignore the well-being esp. mental health.

Highly recommended for everyone, esp. adult audience. This book should be discussed, so that misconceptions about IVF can break among people.

This line though 💔- Why does everyone about me have to be controlled by everyone else? I can't have kids if I like, I can't drink water whenever I want to, & I can't use my phone because others around me are 'too caring ".

The mess in her womb is perfect book that depicts the real struggles of the young happily married couple Pranay and Drishti who tries even possible means to become parents. This books mainly talks about the issues like infertility and mental health. It also normalises of seeing the psychiatrist when it's needed.

I loved how the author has portrayed the main protagonist Drishti Kapoor and Pranay Ahuja. Even though we didn't get much of their love story but their bond is something which most of us definitely craved for, something that's real and genuine. The way that Pranay supports his beloved wife in every phase and handles all her moods every time is just appreciable.

Drishti Kapoor, the centre character of the book, has been through a lot just to hold a child in her hands just like the other couples around her. The constant failures, miscarriages and the continuous IVF procedures had resulted in her deteriorating mental health.

This book is all about having your hopes high even though the things doesn't seem right. It's always important to give your best shot at something you really want. There will be times when you would've thought of giving up but with the right support from the right ones will help you going through it.

I can't start to write a review before appreciating the pretty cover picture and the very apt name this book has been given.
Dr. Drishti Kapoor, the protagonist, and her husband, Pranay Ahuja are happily married, spending their thirties in the banglore city. This is when they're faced with the ordeals of infertility. Repeated miscarriages, failed IVF procedures and all the disappointments that comes with it, slowly pushes Drishti off into depression. It leads to a strained relationship with their parents, constant questioning from the society and a major decline in her own mental health.
The author has so beautifully described how even after acquiring most luxuries of life, like a happy marriage, good in-laws, flourishing career, financial independence and such, a person is still considered incomplete and unfortunate to not have a child.
The mess in her womb is story of a couple, after going through so much pain, hate, disappointments and mental agony, finally getting back at life, focusing on their blessings and deciding to not ruin what they have while chasing acceptance from others.

The Mess In Her Womb by Dr. Chhavi Gandhi Juneja

I'm finding it hard to write a review that'd do justice to this book. It talks about the struggles of infertility, the physical and especially the emotional parts of it. It portrays how a society's view and expection from a woman going through these issues can strain an already frailing mind.

Drishti is trying to conceive a baby through IVF, after natural conception is out of option. Each round of treatment and the subsequent failure of them is too much for her to handle. She feels empty and apathetic. The well meaning relatives and friends can't seem to help her. They only end up frustrating her more.

The few people she could bear to be around are the women who are going through the same IVF treatment as her. Even that is put to test when her friend conceives, and she ends up frustrated by the unfairness of it, a success in a single try. It is such unfiltered, authentic feelings like these discussed in the book that makes it the story that must be told and which should be read.

Written by someone who's gone through these troubles herself, Dr. Chhavi captures the emotions so well. Every sentence comes from her heart. She navigates the story to an appreciable end through cleverly written characters that serve their purpose well in helping us understand this complex and delicate matter.

This book is bold in its voice that needs to be heard. After reading this you'll approach infertility in a different angle. An angle that might make it easier for the struggling couples.

Okay to begin with. I regretted the time I finished the book that I should have read it earlier.

The mess in her womb is story of a couple who tried every possible way to become a parent. It is a story of our protagonist "Dr. Drishti Kapoor" and her husband pranay coping up with their abortion.

The book portrays the parts of the couple going through IVF process to have a child.

The thing I like was the social stigma for infertility shown in this book was mindful.
The issues of mental health that the couple were facing it was shown well. When the author portrays drishti's frustration, stress and sadness of being unintentionally childless. She also did justice for pranay as she portrayed infertility also captures the mind and feelings of a men.

At the end of a story I like it how Drishti's in laws and parents stood up for her and was by her side consoling.

It's a very beautiful journey of a couple who was once obsessed of what they don't have and than accepting and living with what they have.

Drishti - A doctor by profession have a loving husband pranay but her desire of being a mother is unfulfilled. They both take a oath of IVF but the path is rocky and how this affects their relationship, her relationship with her family, in laws & friends ans most importantly how it affects her mental health is beautifully written by the author.

I haven't read any book on this topic and it literally broke my heart to just imagine what a women have to go through to get her desire of become a mother and wouldn't lie that I cried a lot while reading this book.

It's author's debut novel but I was amazed the way she has written it doesn't seems like she wrote a book for the first time.

The only thing I found little difficult was a lot of biological and medical terms which sometimes might become for everyone to understand but definitely took me back to my school back.

Do read this book please I am sure u will love it and do keep tissues handy

Drishti and Pranay want to be parents desperately but they are unable to conceive naturally. And thus begin their journey of infertility and transformation. Even though the subtitle says it is tale of a couple's journey, it is more of Drishti's story. She is the narrator and protagonist.

As they decide to go for IVF treatment, the medicines, hormones and continuous failures take a toll on Drishti's physical, emotional and mental health. The story is about her mental and physical state, her relationships and her outlook on things around her. The pain is real, the issues and stigma are real too. But I didn't like the storytelling style and wasn't drawn into it fully.

I can't say that I agree with all of the author's views on infertility or adoption, but she has talked about an important and often neglected aspect of infertility, that is the mental health of the affected couple. And I must applaud her for that.

Overall, a decent read.

"Does a Marriage without offspring is simply loveless?"
Marriage was never the happily-ever-after. It was and always has been the beginning of every struggle in a couple's life.
Drishti and Pranay have been married happily untill in their thirties when their life was pulled apart due to inferitlity. The book captures every emotions of motherhood and non-motherhood. It contains love, warmth, anger, jealousy, pain and everything. Every page is a note of hope and a story of not giving up.
Throughout the story Pranay has been a very supportive husband. Not to mention but a strong male lead is the speciality of this book.
The detailed procedure of IFV and other medications made the book even more realistic and universal.
To find how Pranay and Drishti reignite their romance go give a read.
The language is very lucid and easily understandable.
I award a 4/5 review to the book.

Drishti Kapoor the central character of the story was A professionally successful doctor and happily married to love of her life Pranay Ahuja.
Drishti had everything well and good in her life except her several failed IVF attempts. Continuous medication took a toll on her physical as well as mental health. Her relationship with parents became miserable. Her friend's pregnancy announcement made her resentful. She became desperate to become a mother and even being a doctor she went into denial mode to take help of a therapist.
Eventually she had to.
The story sincerely depicts the infertility issue and shows the real scenario of an In vitro treatment. It inks that how unwanted childlessness can make a person's mental health a hell. Also the story normalises the fact that taking help from psychiatrist is necessary and fine.

This book is about a woman who has the will to fight. It also talks about mental health and addresses it nicely. The author describes the process of IVF and the mental trauma a person goes through during this process.

The author highlights the social stigma of infertility, the societal pressure it carries, and the journey a parent has to go through. The protagonist's conversation with her brother is very heart melting. The switch from present to past and vice versa added to the reading experience.

The author has a great hand at writing, which makes the book more emotional. Apart from the writing, I really loved the title of the book. The title totally justified the content.

I would surely recommend this book to readers who have the maturity to understand this process and the pain it carries along with it.

I love books which talks about concerns which are usually neither discussed not given any heed. Although many a times they are looked over as a negative prospect of life. I am out of my words to describe the feelings I got while reading this book. It was an emotional journey of a couple who are trying to have a baby through IVF and the world is refusing that happiness for them. This book will show you the hard reality of another group of people who suffers from a lot of problems which doesn't let them to hear "Mom & Dad" from their babies. It is really heart-touching how one group of people take the pregnancy for granted and how the others have to suffer a lot to hear the first cry of her baby.

Well, honestly I cannot find more words to describe it. So a big hats off to the author to write the reality in such short lengthed book and let us see the other part of the world.

It deserves a good 5⭐ from me.

Pranay Ahuja and Drishti Kapoor have been happily married for over three years. The only dent in their perfect life is the lack of a child; a baby that both of them are struggling to bring into their lives and this world. Despite multiple attempts and doing everything in their power, the universe seems hell-bent on denying them the one thing they are craving for the most aka parenthood. How does this affect them and their relationship?

The Mess in Her Womb is an emotional rollercoaster. It is the story of a couple wanting to become parents but at the same time it is so much more. This book is not the simple story that begins with the protagonist having failed to have a natural conception, then go through the tale and processes of IVF and then to eventually be rewarded for their courage and unwavering determination with a baby. As I said before it was like a roller coaster ride reading this book and i truly recommend it others.

The mess in her womb written by the author Dr, Chhavi is such a heartwrenching reach eliciting on the fact that how the journey from the mess in her womb lead her to the mess in her head.. The book focuses on Drishti's journey as a woman who lies on the bed everytime to try for the In-Vitro Fertilization to work for her. The writer has very well bought up the subject of infertility and mental health under light and normalises the aspects of same. The language is simple and keeps you hitched throughout. I really enjoyed reading this. Highly recommend this to everyone.

'The Mess In Her Womb' could be the finest work of Dr. Chhavi Gandhi Juneja. It's not about only infertility or IVF, it's about motherhood. The frustation & pain which Pratogonist faced seems understandable which mostly women have to be passed through.
Overall it's a completely unique genre. I appreciated this piece of work.
