The author, though not known, was an associate of St. Francis de Sales in Lyon. Light gray paper over boards with black cloth on the spine and black lettering on the front board only. Translated from the French by Oliver Dolphin. Five page preface by Austin Dowling, the archbishop of St. Paul at the time of publication. The initial approbation (page xii) is dated August 9, 1646 followed by a letter of Rev. Fr. H. Ramiere to Rev. Fr. F. Fressencourt dated January 12, 1873. The approbations pertinent to this edition are dated February 2 of 1923. One 4 page appendix: "The portrait of a good novice" by Rev. Fr. Dirckink and is taken from his book "Instructions for Novices".
