"Before the world ended, movies often portrayed zombies as hunters. Slavering beasts who slowly chased down their prey. This never made much sense to me. Why would something as fragile and sluggish as a zombie try to chase someone? Zombies are predators. But they are not the kind you are thinking of. They are not wolves, or lions, or bears. If anything, a zombie is a very deadly carnivorous plant. Like a Venus Fly Trap, it lies in wait for some poor, unsuspecting soul to come too close. And then it strikes."
Zac is a boy living during the zombie apocalypse. Except, he doesn't feel very alive. Most of the time, he relates more to the undead who are hunting him than the humans by his side. Time and time again he makes friends, finds family...and loses them all. Follow him in a tale of terror and tragedy as he tries to find peace at the end of the world.
It is already quite a while ago that i read this, but i remember it as very entertaining with a lot of interesting ideas that i have never seen in any zombie stories. I am not sure what its take on death was but i remember that i found it very intriguing back then in a philosphical/spiritual way (i was younger tho so idk what i would think of it now). i remember it as beautiful and ruthless at the same time. i should read it again soon
Kept me completely in the story and helped me process what Covid felt like for those younger than me. I felt the zombie love and the tearing between wanting to be safe and wanting to be with family. Wonderful.
