John F. MacArthur, Jr. was a United States Calvinistic evangelical writer and minister, noted for his radio program entitled Grace to You and as the editor of the Gold Medallion Book Award-winning MacArthur Study Bible. MacArthur was a fifth-generation pastor, a popular author and conference speaker, and served as pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California beginning in 1969, as well as President of The Master’s College (and the related Master’s Seminary) in Santa Clarita, California.
This was soooo good! Definitely a read you’ll be going back to in life over and over again just to re-remind yourself how to deal with sin and mortify it.
This is an excellent book! The main point of the book is about mortifying our sins.
Remember in the Bible when Saul didn't obey God when he was supposed to slaughter the Amalekites? Saul did attack the Amalekites, but he didn't slaughter Agag like he was supposed to. He took Agag, the king of the Amalekites alive, and all his people he totally destroyed with the sword. But Saul and the army spared Agag and the best of the sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lambs--everything that was good.
Humm.... the short of the story is that the Amalekites were very evil and sinful. Saul was supposed to put ALL to death by slaughter, but he didn't. Samuel had to come and "hack Agag to pieces"
This book was VERY good. Very convicting, very inciteful. We aren't supposed to only mortify (put to death) the sins that are easy to mortify, only the sins that we won't miss too much. We are to obey God and daily mortify our sins. Don't keep them stored away to enjoy when we want.
An excellent resource by John MacArthur on the deceitfulness of sin and how we mustn’t be merciful with it when in the midst of spiritual combat. “Be killing sin or it will be killing you,” MacArthur quotes John Owen. “Hacking Agag to Pieces” (a killer title, by the way) is one of those small books I’ll likely revisit again and again over the years. I might not always agree with MacArthur on all the issues, but on the concept of sin he couldn’t be more correct. Good stuff!
This short book packs huge instruction for killing sin. Loaded with great advice from the giants of the faith, John MacArthur quotes Martyn Lloyd-Jones and John Owen, as well as the apostles to show us how to mortify the sins of the flesh. In a world of 'Third Way' theology, it's refreshing to read true Biblical advice.
This easily read book is no easy fix scheme. It is the truth about how Christians are to wage war on their abiding sin called the flesh. That war is fought in daily battles until we see Christ face to face in all His glory. This book is the Bibles strategy for fighting sin.
An excellent short little booklet on the importance of mortifying sin in our daily lives with practical guidance from Scripture on how this is achieved.
