Enrico DaSilva, second son of a wealthy Mexican family in California, loses out to his older brother who is slated to inherit their father’s wealth and property. Rather than stay and play second fiddle, Enrico takes his meager share of the inheritance and moves to Twin Forks in the Dakotas to start his own ranch. There, he makes friends with Hoby Dawkins, the town sheriff, but no one else in town accepts him. Then cattle start dying and soon after some of the people who have treated Enrico badly die as well—in a most gruesome manner.
The locals suspect Enrico of the deaths of the humans but Hoby refuses to believe it, first, because Enrico is his friend, and he’s loyal to his friends, and secondly, because he doesn’t think that a human could have inflicted the damage he saw on the bodies, especially the cattle.
Hoby wonders what he’s got plaguing his town, and Enrico remembers a secret that might hold the key. But can he get anyone to believe him?
I've been writing since my teens. In addition to writing for several newspapers and magazines in the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa, I've written two books on leadership and a number of fiction works. I'm also a published poet, photographer, and artist. I write in several genres, reflecting my broad reading tastes. I spent 20 years in the army, retiring in 1982 and becoming a diplomat. I've worked in about 10 countries and traveled to about 30 more, mining each for material to write about.
This book, Creature of the Night, is about Enrico Da Silva and the sheriff, Hoby Dawkins. And el lobos, the creature.
El lobos has come to town and Enrico tries to tell the sheriff, but the sheriff doesn’t believe him. Although the two are good friends, Enrico just can’t get Hoby to understand what he is saying.
The creature has killed two cows. It drained their blood and then mutilated them. Enrico feels it is the creature whom he first encounters when he is twelve.
He is living in a new town since he left home a few months ago. But his neighbors hate him because his ancestors are Mexican. And he is having those troubled dreams again. Go figure.
This is a weird book. A werewolf that drinks blood and sometimes eats the flesh of other animals. This is a new one for me. But the book is about more than that creature. It is also about racism and bigotry.
I became so fed up with the racist hatred, l severely despised the people of the town especially the group of men who threatened Enrico daily. I wish they would die and go to hell.
This was a different werewolf book. Cattle start turning up dead with only the blood drained from there bodies. Sheriff Dawkins finds himself one of the suspects. Bad ending but there is a sequel so looking forward to the next book.
Fun, short horror novel. Well-paced and we’ll-written with unexpected surprises and storyline. Perfect for reading on a Kindle or other electronic device.
Enrico just wanted to start a new life, but things don't go as he hopes. People start dying in the small community. Who or what is responsible? Creepy creature feature.
