Good book

Simone is trying to regain herself and with her step mother and the family business. Petra a grifter that is all she's knows but wants out of the family business. When they are put together while at a mutual friends party. Simone is completely out and put into Petra's Volvo. Petra is to take her home up the eastcoast. Love the story line. The characters are very believable in there rolls and how they come together even with the push and pull the trust that they learn when there together for a week in the car. After they make their separate ways because of distrust. Petra has to make things right. Wish a little more of Simone and Astrid to get along in the end. Very good read

Simone's story at last

“Everyone had anger inside of them. Anger, hope, and love. The holy trinity of base human emotions.”
+ • + • + • +

Finally, Simone, Astrid's angry, bitter, self-destructive, hostile & unpredictable stepdaughter, gets a voice to her story.

Still not sure I get it, but helll, as tantalizing & thrilling as this book was, not really minding too much.

Her writing has improved, her style evolved. It's still the same formula and familiar characters, but I came here looking for that. Narrator for the audio book was good. Honestly not my favorite book in this universe, but I definitely enjoyed it, and learning more about Simone's back story. Hoping this universe keeps expanding, but I can also understand all good things must end.

Not even Allie Shae’s normally enjoyed narration could save this one. The “spicy” scenes were majorly off putting… and I enjoy all levels and terms, so it wasn’t like my delicate sensibility had me clutching my pearls. I tried to get through it more than once but it will remain DNF.

Disappointment

I usually love this author's (and especially the line of Dane+Billings) books, but this is definitely not her best work.

I really enjoyed the audio book. The story in itself was great. It had a couple of twists that were not quite expecting.

Oh wow, another hit!

Ngl, with the prologue, I thought this would be more of a sombre story, hot but sombre, but even though it had its moments, it was far from it.
LMAO, the brunch scene made me cackle like a fool. I think this was quite fun, and of course steamy also to an extent, sweet. Ah, you should know, this one doesn't have the BDSM aspect other titles in this universe have.

Seeing Simone as something other than a spoiled brat was really nice. She has a lot going on and even though I didn't quite dislike her before, now I can say I feel for her and hope she can get in a place where self-love replace so much loathe, hopefully with Petra help. Speaking of her, she was such a fun character, one that can be insufferable (funny) sometimes and with her past I wonder how she didn't break. Maybe that's something the authors intended, to show the contrast, you can have it all, financially and still have your life go South and you can have nothing and be resilient even with a life as fucked up as hers.

I hope Hildred/Cynthia is planning to do a sort of wrap up in the future, because Astrid's and Simone's stories, although were concluded, felt like they have so much more to be told, they are all so interesting. So much so, it would be a shame not to have them having their HEA be canon, instead of the HFN.

p.s.: it may have been me not paying much attention, but by the end I think there was some lil timeline mix up, as in one of them saying 2 months have passed since they kissed, but a bit later there is a comment that only a month have passed, also a week. Again, could've been me too anxious reading and not doing proper interpretation.
