'Persecution - The Trial of Colin Stagg' brings to print for the first time, the five part screenplays of the web series of the same name. The series was performed by The Outcasts Creative in the summer of 2020 on Youtube.
It follows the true story of Colin Stagg who was the prime suspect and soul focus of the London Metropolitan Police murder investigation into the brutal killing of the twenty three year old Rachel Nickell on Wimbledon Common on July 15th, 1992. Her three year old son Alex who witnessed the attack was spared. It would transpire that Stagg was completely innocent of the crime but in the eyes of the general public he was a man who had got away with murdering a beautiful young woman. This public perception of Staggs’ guilt was primarily the responsibility of the British tabloid press whom in turn were being fed this narrative from contacts they had within the murder investigation team. The majority of the media continually reinforced the profile of Stagg as a loner pervert who had preyed on women on the local commons nearby. News column after column framed Stagg as the only viable suspect in the case. When the trial against him collapsed, it generated a surge of public hatred towards him on a level not seen since the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper. He had, in the eyes of many, got away with murder.
