A polar vortex grabs New York City by the throat and leaves it almost motionless with its deep freeze. In its wake, a young woman's body is discovered near the East River, frozen solid. With no ID, no Missing Person's report matching her description, and no clues except for a wooden drink token in her jacket pocket, Detective Tommy Keane must find the answers. Did she commit suicide? Was this a homicide? Or was it possibly just a horrific accident? Detective Keane, as always, is determined to find the truth. But will the answer be more chilling than the polar vortex itself?
Jenny Black by Travis Myers & Natasha Myers Marsiguerra
4.5/5 stars
Jenny Black is the third book in the Tommy Keane series by the Myers siblings. And it is just as addictive as the first two books! I absolutely loved it from start to finish.
The book starts with a body being found which is completely frozen up. The body is of a young woman dressed in black. Because she is frozen they can only take clues from the outside of the body. It'll take a week before the body is completely thawed and before the coroner can perform an autopsy. So they don't know if she was murdered or if she died by suicide. Tommy notices her jacket which has a lot of band patches on it. He names them as his partner Jimmy Coletti writes them down. He also finds a few tokens of a club called Snapper's Magee. And that is the only solid clue they can chase.
And that starts off the investigation. Tommy teams up with Jimmy Coletti and together they throw themselves on the case and make a lot of progress together. At Snapper's Magee they find out the victim's name is Jenny Black. But when they don't find the victim under that name in their databases they need to dig further.
I love how the figured out who she was. How they found her family and told them she passed away. How they interviewed her friends. And when they finally hear from the coroner what truly happened to her, things accelerate quickly. I was investigating right alongside Tommy!
I love how we got to know his co-workers a lot more in this book. That added a lot to the camaraderie on the precinct. I still adore his mother and Jo-Jo so much. And Molly, my girl! I kinda hoped she was in the book more. I really hope she is the fourth or fifth book! I am dying to know what happens next.
All in all a fantastic book! I really liked the ending. And I cannot wait to read the next installment in this amazing series.
Oh wow! Another fantastic Tommy Keane story! This third book of the Tommy Keane series did not disappoint! This was a pageturner and I enjoyed it thoroughly!
In this story, Tommy and his partner Jimmy Colletti are investigating the case of an unidentified woman when her body is found frozen in Carl Schurz Park.
I love a good police procedural story and this book delivered that. Reading the investigation part made me feel like part of the team. It was well-done and I enjoyed learning how Tommy and the team slowly put all the pieces of the puzzle together.
The pace of this book is a tad slower than the previous ones and there was not a lot of action too. I personally felt it was more of a character driven story which works for me since I get to know more about Tommy. What I also liked was how Tommy was kind of mentoring Jimmy during this investigation. I loved the good work dynamics between them!
Overall, this was another great addition to this series! The twist at the end was so good and really unexpected! If you enjoy police procedural, you may want to give this a read!

The third installment in the Tommy Keane series is far more character driven, which I very much enjoyed. We get to know Tommy and his team on a much more personal level. It isn't as heavy on the action, and the pace is quite a bit slower, but the storyline is still great! It's also super food focused, ha ha!! Made me hungry. I had a craving for pierogi and burritos!! Yum!!
I was also happy to see Tommy's mom made a few appearances. Her character always puts a smile on my face!
I have been a fan of this series since the very first book. Thrilled to see there's another book on the way! I can't wait to read the next book, Li Jun.
Highly recommend to those that enjoy a gritty police procedural.
I really enjoyed this third installment of this Tommy Keane series. In this book, we follow Tommy and younger Detective Jimmy Coletti in the case of Jenny Black, a young woman's frozen body found in a park. We journey with them as they talk with many people trying to figure out her identity. Once they find it, they then need to determine who killed her. I liked how Tommy seemed to be mentoring Jimmy throughout the case as Tommy is a genuinely nice guy. You can see and feel the respect people give him when they are talking to him.
This is a longer book than the previous two, but I didn't feel it dragged at all. I was definitely interested in the case throughout the whole book and wanted to know what happened to Jenny. If you like police procedurals, then check out this series!
Thank you to Bully Press for a gifted copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Jenny Black by Travis Myers and Natasha Myers Marsiguera, is the third book of their Tommy Keane Detective series, a series I have loved since their first book Sister Margaret.
Jenny Black, picks up right where book two, Hayden Jon Marshall left off. Yes this is the third book of the series, but it can be read as a stand alone, however I do recommend you start at the begining so you know whats hapened in the past, and have a better feel for the characters.
In Jenny Black, our hero Detective Tommy Keane, has to investigate the case of a young woman who is found frozen solid in a park in his precinct. She has no identification, and there is no missing persons report fitting her description on file. We spend half the book just trying to find out who this woman is...Following Tommy, Detective Jimmy Colletti, and Detective Doreen Doyle, all over the city and beyond, as they interview people in seedy dive bars, underworld social clubs, and gritty punk rock venues.
Who is this young woman and what happened to her? Tommy of course is determined to find out, and along the way we discover more about Tommy, and who he is, as well as more about the rest of the team, in particular one of my favorite characters Doreen Doyle, who I just love!
This novel is a little longer, and a little slower moving than the first two which just ripped tempo wise, but it is every bit as satisfying as the first two reads, and is a great installment to this series which has become one of my all time favorites!
This was a 4.5⭐ read for me, and I can not wait for book four, of which there is a sneak peek into at the end of this installment.
This Tommy Keane series just keeps getting better and better with every book. A body was found frozen in a park, and Tommy was the lucky Detective who got the case. Like the other two books in this series, this case is not as easy as Tommy assumed it would be. The woman's body that was found had no wallet or identification and no one matching her description has been reported missing.
Jenny Black.. Finally Tommy has a name of the body and it's Jenny Black. Now he has to try and figure out who hated her enough to do this to her. Only hard part, it seems like everyone loved Jenny.
I think this was my favorite of the three because we really get to see the type of guy Tommy is. His personality is seriously starting to show in these books and I cannot wait to see what else we learn about him. If you like a good police procedural read, than this is definitely a series you should check out.
I'm becoming a huge fan of this series, and I've never really been a series guy, but this one keeps me wanting more!
Jenny Black, although sinister, as all crime novels are, or should be? Is not quite as dark or as sinister as the first two books of the Tommy Keane series, but rest assure it is still a twisty turny read, as the investigation goes from an unidentified D.O.A. through to its eventual conclusion.
It kept me guessing throughout, and it also built on the characters we've already learned to love from the beginning of the series. I very much enjoyed this addition and look forward to number four, and hope Netflix discovers this series as well, I'd love to see their adaptation!!
Jenny Black is the third case of the Tommy Keane series, and in this one he has a female DOA found frozen in a park near a river.
The ensuing investigation, pulls us deeper into the life of Detective Keane, and other characters in his circle, as he has to first find out who this woman is, then find out exactly what happened to her, and how she ended up dead and frozen in the park.
The destination again, is well worth the journey in this one, which as the with the first two, reads like its a film, which I love!
I definitely recommend this book, and series, absolutely one of my favorites!
The sibling team of Travis Myers and Natasha Myers Marsiguera, score again with this one!
Jenny Black is another great police procedural that takes you on a tour of New York City, in search of what happened to a young punk rock girl found dead in a park.
I've enjoyed every book in this series so far, and particularly love the character development, and world building that takes place in this one, I really feel as if I've come to know Tommy, and his Detective squad personally.
Jenny Black solidifies the Tommy Keane series as a to be classic in the annals of Crime/Detective fiction.
This is the third book in the series and as I said after reading Sister Margaret (the first of this series) "This is not great literature, but it is a great story."
And that statement holds true through each of these books, they are all great stories!
I highly recommend this series, not only to crime fans but to all readers in general, and praise the authors for delivering three great stories in a row, looking forward to number four!
Another solid read! Excellent character development, and another realistic case, with a satifying ending!
So far the brother and sister team that pens these do not dissapoint, and I hope they keep Tommy Keane working on these cases for years to come because I am truly enjoying them!
Jenny Black is book 3 in the Tommy Keane series and it can read entirely fine as a standalone, but reading the priors definitely helps to know the characters better. This is such a fun police procedural series, it doesn't drag, it's fast paced and really easy to read. This one was longer than the first 2 and a little slower in terms of pacing as we really got to dig deeper into the characters. I loved how we got to know the colleagues at the precinct better and see the camaraderie forming between them.
I really love Tommy, he's such a fun character to follow. The way he tackles the case and interacts with suspects and witnesses is such a fun process to follow. The storyline for Jenny Black was really interesting, needing to find out who this Jane Doe is and then who killed her. I did figure it out once that character was introduced, but there's still a little twist that I hadn't seen. The characters are truly what keeps me coming back, they are so easy to get attached to and you just need to know what will happen to them in the next books.
Overall, this was a great addition to the series. More character driven, but necessary to the growth of the series. I really enjoyed the investigation and the process of it.
✨️ Thank you to @bullypress & Travis Myers & Natasha Myers Marsiguerra for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another Great Read! Jenny Black, the third book of the Tommy Keane Detective series, a new series to me which I just started recently but have become a little obsessed with.
the Jenny Black case is a bit slower moving than the first two books in the series, and begins as a Jane Doe for Detective Keane, an unknown young woman found frozen solid in a park on the East River, and Detective Keane spends at least a third of the book trying to find out who she is, and then what happened to her.
Although this is another heartbreaking story, it is definitely less grim than the first two novels were.
I have come to love the realism of these novels, not only in the murders themselves, but the fact that Detective Keane eats in real restaurants and drinks in real bars, all over New York City, in this particular novel there is a heavy music presence, and of course all the bands mentioned and involved in this case turn out to be actual bands, I absolutely love this and have been looking them all up on YouTube, More realism points!!
If you like crime novels, I highly recommend this series!
Another great addition to this detective series! I have loved watching this story grow and develop over the last three novels, Sister Margaret (The first in the series) gave me exactly what I wanted, a quick gritty read with a tough but likeable lead character, a character I fell in love with in the second release, Hayden Marshall, and now after this one Jenny Black, book number three, I find I can't get enough, and I am desperate to get my hands on the fourth.
I do recommend this series to anyone who is a fan of a down and dirty detective/police procedural. it deals with tough true crime scenarios, that are very believable, and heartbreaking, they are grim, but not too gratuitous.
In Jenny Black, half of the book reads as a missing persons case where Detective Keane is in search of the identity of a young dead woman, he scours the city and even other cities and states to find her through a labyrinth of dive bars and music venues, and as usual the end has a satisfying twist that I didn't see coming.
𝐽𝑒𝑛𝑛𝑦 𝐵𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑘 is the third installment in the Tommy Keane series and of course it did not disappoint! I’ve never been a big series reader but when it comes to Tommy Keane I always want more!
It’s hard to come by good police procedurals these days- they can be boring and complex. But the cases of Detective Tommy Keane are always both engrossing and entertaining. I absolutely love Tommys personality and humor, the relationships between his work family and OF COURSE love his MA.
The crimes in each book are always quite gritty and honestly realistic! In each book the crime solving process is executed perfectly. From the information gathering, to the questionings, to the solving of the case- it’s like reading a real life investigation.
I love how these books have a NYC setting, the writing is so descriptive and the way the authors use real NYC locations it’s like we are getting a personal tour of NYC. I especially loved how this installment included all the dining out segments-loved reading about all the speciality food Tommy regularly eats😆.
✨Honestly I could go on for days about how great this series is! So many thanks to @bullypress for the gifted book copies and for the amazing #bullypress apparel✨
Another intriguing mystery by the Myers siblings! Even though this installment had a lot of unnecessary details at first, it was still a really good read and a very interesting story! I loved to learn more about some of the other detectives in the 2-1 and I liked to see Tommy more relaxed and enjoying himself a little more than in the previous books. I can’t wait to go back to NYC and see a couple of the places mentioned in the book! 4 stars and I will absolutely continue with the series!
My favorite so far! Each book leaves me wanting more and especially this one. I can’t wait for a new case, and tell us more about Tommy’s personal life. Maybe a little that will make us blush! I highly recommend the entire series.
Jenny Black doesn’t disappoint and what's so great is that we get to spend some time and learn about the other characters in his world. This one is by far more character driven than the first two installments. However, it's always fun to go along for the ride and join Tommy in solving the crime. One of the things I probably enjoy most is having a front row seat to his crime solving process. He’s methodical in his approach and takes you step by step through his process and even explains why he thinks what he thinks.
Overall, this was a great read and addition to the series. I highly recommend the series if you like police procedurals.
