Wildflowers, by Laura Rossi What this author can make me feel...and that just from one short story! I felt the angst, like a hard knot in my stomach. I felt the horror, and sad. So unbelievable sad. With a quality depth, I felt like I got to know these characters. I was taken on a angst filled journey in a time of war. Filled with kindness and understanding. Such a strong and emotional story.
"We are like wildflowers. We are all different. We are gentle. And we are strong. No matter what happens how much they try to crush us, we will rise once again. "
No one ever should have to live and go though this. This review is fir Danielle Jacks Loved this story. Friends to lovers. The two main characters Henryk and Katarzyna have know each other all their lives when they finally become as one . With war going on Katarzyna family are getting ready to flee to a safe country, but she decides she has to stay to help. As the war picks up pace Henryk feels that it's not safe for her to stay any longer and sends her away to be with her family vowing that he will find her. This is something none of us really should be witness to. Henryk and Katarzyna can love concer all.
Some amazing authors taking part in this anthology and for a great cause. I have at this time only read KL Shandwick's contribution but it is well worth reading just for that. Emotional, down to earth and very realistic. It has all the love and worry you would expect to feel having someone you love going off to parts unknown, to fight for their Country. It had me in tears, it had me worry and it had me smiling. If this one story is anything to go by then I'm going to e an emotional mess by the end of the whole anthology.
Being with a soldier takes a strong person. During peace but more so during war! This book will give you hope, and heartache as a reminder of what all out soldiers and their family and friends are going through. So good, SO heartfelt and so real!
This is a charity anthology put together at the height of the Ukraine war to help raise much needed funds.
It has been a while since I read an anthology and I love the eclectic mix of styles they contain. This one had a war and romance theme, so I looked forward to reading it.
Like any anthology there is a mixture of writing ability and some wonderful ideas on which to base a story. I had my favourites, Wildflowers by Laura Rossi was about a women and her daughter living in their home during the war. When the soldiers came, one’s sees her hiding and romance blooms amongst the explosions. Danielle Jacks, Beyond Rhubarb and Love, Life and Regret , both reviewed here, wrote Polish Poppies about a resistance fighter and the girl he loves. Lessons Never Learnt by Paula Action was the only science fiction story about war. It was imaginative and put a different spin on the theme. Finally, the last story of the book, Lost and Alone by M B Feeney, had a newly married man going off to fight in Ukraine. The only problem, is he didn’t tell his English wife.
The thing I didn’t like is that the war Ukraine is still ongoing, and that is very sad.
This is a really good anthology and will appeal to romance lovers and those who want to support a worthwhile cause.
