Welcome to the inaugural volume of Denver's Green Carnation Kulture Journal. I am the editor, Kel Lemieux. Inspired by London's The Yellow Book publication 15 decades back-in-time and referring to author/playwright Oscar Wilde's famous lapel flower, the GCKJ is the Dark Romantic/Neo-Decadent answer to the Lady's Home Journal. Strangely scholarly and filled with content from multiple contributors, the Green Carnation is your one-stop Lit shop, if you need to read hot poetry, ponder deep ideas, and consume sharp fiction, all tainted with a symbolic decadence, wrapped in American post-Impressionism and David-Lynchian-aesthetics. These essays, poems, short stories, introductions, diary entries, scripts, videos, bios, photos, audio memos, essays, and other texts appear or will appear in these digital 'pages.' Volume 1, presented here, has a 'Trench Coat Mafia'/Scholarly Goth-Punk attitude. My previous editing work includes UC Boulder's Walkabout journal, Twist & Shout CDs' My Back Pages newsletter, and the DOA Dandy Snatchers and Culprit 'zine projects, all back in the 90s. The green carnation is symbolic of high thought and dangerous beauty. I represent this symbol with a sea god stanchion. Cheers, cheers, and here's to you...read on, strong readers of the culture stream. We borrow. We adore. We drive to outer space. After re-stating our values as the human race...
