The Isle of Sheppey. The discovery of a wounded, unconscious man left for dead sets in motion a series of events where mistakes once thought buried in the past are forced to the surface. With lethal results. Persuaded to take one last job, ex-criminal Brendan Quinn is betrayed and left for dead. Now Quinn is on a mission for revenge, finding himself at the centre of a conspiracy stretching back into a past he’d tried to forget. Forced to be a fugitive from an all-powerful crime family, running from men who he once worked alongside, Quinn must draw on all his skills and resources to not only stay alive, but also unravel the mystery of why he was gunned down by his own team, and what the connection is to his own brother’s death, years before. Burning Bridges is the explosive new thriller from Matthew Ross, the author of Death of a Painter and The Red Admiral’s Secret.
Matthew Ross has published two previous books that formed a series, but his latest book Burning Bridges is a standalone thriller. The story begins two years earlier with a car accident, the death of two people as the screams of a man echo in the dark, moving into the present day as an unconscious wounded man is found on the road at Sheppey Island. Brendan Quinn is a former gangster who decides to collect the money he is owed after his last job almost killed him. The reason for his being shot and what it has to do with his past and the death of his brother is a mystery. The narrative moves seamlessly back and forward in time to reveal how the past has impacted on current happenings and exposes multiple motives, unexpected consequences and the price paid for revenge. An unfolding gem of a tale with plenty of action and twists, making a four and a half star read rating. May there be more of this most unusual hero, a former hard man now coffee shop owner. With thanks to Burning Chair and the author, for an uncorrected advanced reader copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given.

This is my first read by Matthew Ross, I thought the premise looked like my kind of read so I began reading not knowing quite what to expect. I have to say I really enjoyed this book, it had a very thrilling start that just grabbed my attention and made me want to continue reading. I think the author has created a strong, likeable, believable and very down to earth character in Quinn and I was rooting for him all the way through. When he is asked to take part in a job it has consequences he never expected. This is a very well written and engaging book with a good plot line. I enjoyed how the timeline moved backwards and forwards so easily and how the author gave glimpses into Quinn’s history and how it has shaped him. I loved the many different story threads which all began to make sense and come together as the book progressed. McLean is a wonderful secondary character who I couldn’t help but like and the perfect foil for Quinn. This is quite an action packed read, with lots going on and is about revenge and family loyalty. I’ve read this in just over a day - overall I found it to be a very entertaining and absorbing read and I hope there is a second book featuring Quinn and McLaren. I’d recommend this if you like the crime genre and I see the author has two other books out which I will definitely find time to read when I can.
My thoughts about Matthew Ross’s Burning Bridges, Lets begin with the story, the story is outstanding and very gripping, also the major fact is that, this is unpredictable with huge amounts of twist. Writer Matthew Ross who has given as blockbusters like Death Of A Painter and The Red Admiral’s Secret this time he works really hard, and the result is the book is so logical. You can’t even raise a drawback against this Hard-hitting thriller. Matthew Ross gives you a revenge thriller that is entertaining and effective. Matthew Ross’s Burning Bridges begins with a bang, the story begins in The Isle of Sheppey. You have to read this one. With full of heart beating moments and its really a thrilling and adventurous ride. Full of suspense and magic. You will be glued to your seats, the entire book is brilliant and breathtaking. I would like to say a big thank you to Author Matthew Ross for writing another masterpiece, which I’ve enjoyed reading and Publishers Burning Chair, for kindly gifting me a ARC ebook copy for me to read and review this spectacular thriller. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💥💥💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
If you like a gritty crime thriller then look no further. I love Matthew Ross’s writing and it just gets stronger and stronger with each book of his I read, this is his third novel.
The story begins with a bang as a car crashes killing the two passengers. Going forward to present day a man is shot and left for dead. But luckily for this man someone rescues him and patches him up. Quinn is the man who is supposed to be dead and the man that saves him is ex criminal McLaren.
But now Quinn wants revenge, he knows who shot him but in whose orders. Quinn had previous worked for Tony Kent the head of a crime family. He had come out of that business until he is asked to do one more job. It’s a job that Kent’s son Jamie has come up with. The problem is Jamie is a little hot headed, he wants to move on up in the families business the trouble is he’s not really that good at anything.
After being left for dead Quinn wants revenge, and as the story moves on he learns more about the past. Not only is Quinn looking at getting revenge but someone else is also looking for the person responsible of pulling off the latest job he is known as the Hunter, but who is he? Who has sent him?
This is an action packed thrilling read, I loved Quinn and McLaren’s characters and was really rooting for the pair of them both. The story goes back and forth between the past and the present but it’s easy to follow. The plot is well thought out with plenty to keep you engaged in the story.
I definitely give this a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read, especially if you like a fast paced read. Grab yourself a copy if this.
I would like to thank @mattwross for a gifted copy of this book. I thoughts and opinions are my own and not influenced In any way.
An absolute cracker of a book. Whips along at quite a pace and it had me seriously invested in all of the main characters. Yes, it's been done before (the whole revenge plot in criminal underworld aspect) but rarely this well and the Kent and London settings were really well done. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a thriller with a twist. Excellent!
