Kate Tyler isn't sure she's living the life she was meant to live. Eden Springs has been wonderful, but she can't deny the wanderlust tugging at her heart. Desperate for a change of pace, she packs her bags and heads to the ancient town of Rye, England where she hopes she'll find inspiration for her new travel blog.
But when she arrives, mysteries follow her everywhere she goes. Strangers seem to know her, a book of ancient legends contains her mirror image, and Virginia Calloway is insistent that Kate come over to discuss the Legend of Arabella Courbain. Hoping to solve one of the many mysteries of this spontaneous trip, Kate agrees.
But the deeper Kate digs into the truth of what happened to Arabella back in 1766, the more she learns that the present may not hold the answers she needs. When legends cross with reality, Kate must find the truth before history repeats itself.

encountersNancy Wakeley has another winner with her second book in her Kate Tyler Series. Legend is set in the charming town of Rye, England. The reader experiences the attraction of an old European town with a lot of history in present-day encounters. The author shows amazing attention to detail in accurate descriptions of the town and surrounding countryside. Her character, Kate, finds herself wrapped up in a mystery, a secret society, and discovers her personal relationship with the Ledge of Arabella Courbain. What will become of Kate? Will she return home to Ben in Howard’s Walk? Nancy keeps us on the edge of our seats when Kate gets into some life-threatening situations. We are introduced to some places and characters in Nancy Wakeley’s award-winning book Heirloom, yet Legends is a stand-alone book. The author has a remarkable ability to intertwine the lives of her characters and makes the reader feel like you have a personal relationship with them. Nancy weaves a web of clues to keep you engaged, unable to put the book down. There is a combination of great suspense, romance, mystery, and getting to know another side of Kate Turner. Nancy Wakeley’s second book, The Legend, follows up on the everyday heroine Kate Tyler. Now that Kate has moved past the sudden death of her twin, she starts to feel that “travel bug” again. Coupled with some very vivid, repetitive dreams, she is strangely drawn to the small town of Rye, England. While working on her travel blog, she stumbles upon a mysterious book from hundreds of years ago that features a young woman named Arabella.
Kate is shocked when she sees that the picture of Arabella looks exactly like Kate. Though unnerved, she continues her studies of Rye and the surrounding countryside, only to be reminded by the locals at every turn how much she looks like the mysterious Arabella. Drawn into the web of a local legend, Kate is at first intrigued. Soon, however, she is in real danger, and only her new friend Miles has any chance to save her.
It is obvious that the author did extensive research on small town England, as the story she weaves is ripe with detail and an atmosphere that could only come from a small European town. The story features a host of interesting characters, from the villain Virginia to the manly but vulnerable Miles. It is well written and easy to read, ensuring that fans of literary fiction will enjoy this book.
What a wonderful followup to Heirloom! Kate Tyler is off to England to visit the coastal city of Rye. Here she meets new unique characters, visits delightful historical sites, and becomes enthralled with the legend of Arabella, whom she mysteriously resembles. Nancy Wakeley once again thrills us with beautiful descriptions of English life, entices us with Kate's search for the 16th century legend found in an ancient leather-bound book of tales, and leads us through another relationship full of warmth and caring. You'll love this new story of Kate woven into the 16th century legend of Rye. Another winner!
This was a great follow up to the first novel with Kate Tyler. The mystery was well thought out and the relationships with the characters were all interesting. Especially the interaction of Virginia with Kate was quite suspenseful.
On the 2nd of this month, I dove into The Legend... and today I finished it. It's a real page-turning adventure! In this second instalment of the Kate Tyler novels, we're transported from North Carolina to Southern England. Another garden, connected to a legend and mysterious family roots. There are lessons in patience to nurture roots (not just of plants) and lessons in herbalism and healing.
Next up is the 3rd book by Nancy Wakeley in the Kate Tyler series. More digging into mysteries of family roots and gardens, a winery this time or so it seems at first glance.
The second book in the Kate Tyler trilogy had me traveling to Rye, England, right along with Kate, like I was there. Her attention to detail had me researching the area and seeing pictures of the Mermaid Inn. The mystery unfolded with the discovery of a very special book which pointed to the Legend of Arabella. I loved the various characters and wondered if she would return home or start a new life with Miles. You must read it to find out!
The threads of the varying plots never really came together, with some subplots being added and abandoned seemingly just to as filler or perhaps as reminders of the main character's job. It read more as a midlife crisis book than a mystery.
