Snow Falls Alaska Cozy #2

Fritters and Fatality

Rate this book
Bethany Lights was looking forward to her new life in Snow Falls, a tiny community in the depths of the Alaskan wilderness. Settling in to a life that was mundane was all she wanted for now but events would soon overtake her and her roommate Julie.

When an opportunity to help renovate a ski resort comes up, Bethany and Julie jump at the chance to get to an even more remote spot, reachable only by snowmobile.

Traveling with an irritable and cranky old man and his wife, the two friends arrive at the secluded spot to discover that it is far from what they had hoped for. Cold and dark, and perched on a lonely mountaintop, there’s not another living soul for miles around.

Or is there?

When their spare fuel for their snowmobile is stolen it’s worrying enough to imagine that an unknown person is lurking. But when a dead body literally falls out of the walk-in freezer it becomes apparent that something is terribly wrong.

With a killer on the loose, no way of summoning help from the outside world and a storm rolling in, Bethany and her friends are about to find out that the wilds of Alaska aren’t the only dangers they face. Someone is out to kill them.

Now, at the edge of her sanity and the edge of the world too, Bethany is going to need all her wits if she is to survive the coming hours and get off the mountain alive.

Sharing the Mountain With a Killer . . .

Bethany Lights is recovering from an illness and she and Julie were very bored. They decide to go to an old ski lodge that needs some sprucing up. The spot is very remote, top of the mountains, and can only be accessed by snowmobile. They are transported there by a grumpy man and his wife. But when they arrive, the place is disappointing. It is cold and dark and very isolated.

It becomes apparent that they are not alone up there. The extra fuel for the snowmobile has disappeared. And a dead body is found in the walk-in freezer! A snowstorm has moved in, isolating them further. And there is no way to contact anyone on the outside for help. And the killer is not stopping with the one victim. They are in danger. Can Bethany keep a clear head and keep everyone safe while they try to get back to civilization?

I enjoyed reading this second cozy book in the series. The story line is intriguing, entertaining, and the mystery of the killer’s whereabouts and identity keeps the reader on edge and involved to the last page. Grab your copy and see if they can stay alive to escape their adversary!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Although marked as a cozy, this book is more of a thriller. The story is atmospheric with many twists and turns. There are multiple potential killers with varying motives and, at times, I found the plot to be more complicated than necessary. However, the story pulls you along as you root for the good guys.

Bethany is a well fleshed out character. She is coping with the after effects of an abusive marriage. Her restlessness causes her and her friend, Julie, to become caught up in a deadly situation involving a dilapidated ski resort on a remote mountain in Alaska. She has realistic emotions throughout, struggling with anxiety & panic, balanced with logical thinking that helps her save herself and her friends. The supporting characters of Claude & Samantha, who run a hunting lodge at the base of the mountain are well rounded and endearing.

Potential readers to this series should be aware that there is a strong Christian theme running throughout.

Fun Read Full of Mysteries and Actions!!!

Fritters and Fatality is second book in the Snow Falls Alaska Cozy Series.

Bethany Lights and her roommate Julie Walsh take on the project to help renovate a ski resort and have to travel with the irritable and cranky old man and his wife to the resort which turn out to be a very isolated cold & dark place that perched on a lonely mountaintop, there’s not another living soul for miles around. When they try to leave and someone is preventing them from leaving, then they find a dead body. With the killer on the loose and without help from the outside world Bethany, Julie and their 2 new friends need to take down the murderer and try to get off the mountain alive.

This is a fun fast-paced, great read full of suspense, with many twists & turns, action and wonderful characters, a real page turner, hard to put down book. I really enjoy it and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Every book I’ve read that Wendy Meadows has written have been exceptionally good. I’m pleased to say that Fritters and Fatality is as well.

As always, Wendy Meadows has well developed characters and plot. The main character, Bethany Lights is a widow. Her deceased husband was abusive. As expected, that relationship has left Bethany with panic attacks and anxiety. Although it can be a hindrance, it really forces Bethany to slow down, think, breathe deeply, while seeking solutions. Now imagine relocating to the wilds of Alaska to renovate an old ski resort and finding a killer on your doorstep so to speak! I’d run away as fast as I could….but not our heroine! She’s stronger than she thinks!

Fatality and Fritters is fast paced, suspenseful, and full of twists and turns that kept me guessing and made the book hard to put down as well as throughly enjoyable. Do yourself a big favor and buy or borrow this book. However, it might be wise to get book one first! I did go back and buy it immediately. I’m throughly looking forward to Bethany’s continuing adventures.

Good Storyline, but Confusing At Times!

by Barbara Kelley

This story had a good storyline, but a few of the scenes were confusing; for example, it was confusing who the guy near the end of the story was, claiming to be FBI, but not. The cover is confusing, too. The little raccoon that was a big part of Book 1 wasn't even mentioned in Book 2, even though he is on the cover. My favorite character in this particular book was Claude Stewart, a seemingly grumpy old man, but who, in my opinion, stole the whole storyline. There was still no mention of Sarah's baby boy, Little Conrad, who was born in the last episode of the Alaska Cozy Mystery series. This series "Snow Falls Alaska Cozy Mysteries" is a sequel, but it only mentions one twin, Little Sarah. The story has several mysteries in it, and each and every character had a point-of-view, even the killer. I took writing classes and was told that a book should be told from only one or two viewpoints. However, since the storyline was pretty good, I gave it a 3 star rating. I hope Book 3 is better.

This is a really enjoyable 2nd installment in this new series. The new characters are well defined so you can see them as you read more and more about each.

Bethany and her friend Julie, who is also Amanda’s cousin, are BORED in Snow Falls, Alaska. Bethany feels like she’s in a rut doing the same thing day in and day out. As both women have cabin fever so when Bethany reviews a book about Alaska that a customer left accidently, she tries to contact his daughter. When informed about needing some help to restore an old ski resort, both women jump at the changed to do something different.

Before making the final trip to Ice Mountain, Bethany and Julie must stay at a lodged owned by Clause and his wife Samantha. After all four arrive at the ski resort, trouble begins.

Who’s trying to kill whom and why? Read on to learn what is going on with this story.

FRITTERS AND FATALITY by Wendy Meadows is the second installment in her new series Snow Falls Alaska. This is a spin-off and  continuation of the Alaska Cozy Mystery series that star Sarah and Amanda. This series has all our old friends making cameos, plus the new series stars, Bethany Lights and Julie Walsh.

Getting bored, Bethany and Julie decide to take a little vacation and head to a ski resort high in the mountains. But that little vacation may be the last thing they do as they get trapped by a snowstorm with no communication no transportation, but they do have a killer. Bethany will need to put her past trama behind her abd channel Sara by asking "what would Sarah do".

These are well developed characters with a strong spiritual belief. The twisted mind of the killer, the intrigue, and suspense made this a good page-turning mystery.

I like Bethany and her friend Julie in this spin-off series a lot and it's kinda cool that since Sarah and Amanda live in Snow Falls, they get to show up in the books as well. This author does a very good job of making creepy things happen but keeping the whole atmosphere a cozy mystery. That's definitely a talent!

I was on the edge of my seat toward the end and couldn't read fast enough! Another thing I really like in all the author's books is how the bad people really do get their comeuppance. And even sometimes, a bad person might admit they felt terrible about what they've done. But the bad ones always have to pay, and that's what I love most about cozies, that nice little escape from reality!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the author via BookFunnel, and my opinions are my own.

What started out as a kind gesture of Bethany Lights and her roommate Julie turns out to be a mission to stay alive. They have only one way to get to the mountain lodge and that is by a snow machine owned and operated by a grumpy old man and his wife. When they arrive, they know they will be there for the night but they discover that it wasn’t what they were expecting. As they try to leave, someone has stolen their gas can so they are stranded with no way down off the mountain. Not even a phone to call for help. As a killer is out to make sure no one leaves alive, you will be pulled into an action packed, full of suspense mystery of who wants them dead, why, and who to trust. I might add that Mr. Grumpy turns out to be a pretty nice guy after all.

Bethany and Julie are roommates who live in snow falls. They have become bored with their lives and want excitement. They volunteer to help the ski lodge owner fix up the place and have an exciting vacation at the same time. They have to be driven in by a crabby old man and his wife because there is a powerful winter snow and it's dangerous to be out in. I was holding my breath when they were on the very nearly impassable roads. They finally arrive and they find a horrific site. There is a killer hiding inside. This book was so exciting. I love the sweet and realistic characters. The plot was surprising and I was not putting this book down until I have finished it. It was fantastic. I can't wait for the next one.

Bethany jumps at a chance to help out a ski resort in this book. Here and Julie travel to a remote section of Alaska
with a cranky old couple. They are surprised when they arrive at the restort to find that it is dark and all alone on
the top of a mountain. There doesn't seem to be anyone around for miles and miles. So what does the restort need with
the 4 of them? Turns out there is someone up there with them and that person steals the fuel for their snowmobile. Naturally
a storm is moving in to make matters worse. While searching the inside of the restort, they discover a dead body in a freezer.
They have no way to contact anyone so Bethany and Julie must solve the murder and find the killer before one of them ends up
dead.

I gave this series a second chance because who doesn’t deserve one? but I must say there isn’t gonna be a third one.
I find frustrating how is written, with changing points of view unnanouced, but mostly becase I read cozy novels to try and play detective, but here she’s telling us who’s the killer since page 1, there’s no mystery in it at all… also I find the main carácter Bethany to be really frustrating
All this said, in this second installment of the Snow Falls Alaska, Bethany and Julie go to a remote ski lodge, to vacation and get their hands on some hard work, only to encounter death. The characters I liked the most were Claude and Sam, the couple that owns the hunting lodge and the ones the women hire to arrive to the ski lodge.

vacations rarely go well for the ladies from Snow Falls, Alaska.

Murder and mayhem are nearly always afoot, and hidden craziness is abundant.

In terms of men, the pickings are plenty - and plenty strange.

The latest adventures let us get to know relative newcomers Julie and Bethany better - and the ladies learn a lot about themselves.

Sometimes, when things get rough, there might be a fantastic meltdown- yet the ladies get tough when they need to.

A worried relative determined to bring someone back to the lower 48 might well discover these ladies have grit!

Harrowing and hilarious!.

Welcome back to Snow Falls Alaska! This is the second book in he series, I would recommend reading them in order although it is not fully necessary. Bethany gets to see her hidden strength emerge in this book and after the past, she's had I found that really endeared her to me.

Would you run away if you stumble across a dead body, or would you gather your courage and face the unknown dangers with your wits being your biggest weapon? Stuck in isolation Bethany and Julie find themselves with a mystery on their hands and a killer on the loose.

This was an enjoyable read and I felt swept into the story and the suspense. I received an advanced copy of this story through BookSprout and am leaving an honest voluntary review.

This is a short story.
Two friends who live in Snow Falls, Alaska are itching to get out and do something.
So they find out about a ski resort 200 miles farther into the Alaska outback and decide to go and help renovate it.
What could go wrong?
Except that there are continuous snow storms and the cold cuts like a knife.
An older man and his wife take them there with their snowcat.
But when they arrive they know somethings not right in a big way. Instead of a cozy ski resort they found a cold, dark creepy old resort.
They immediately find a dead body and their gas to get back is stolen.
Now they are stuck up on a treacherous mountain with no way to get out.
Bethany, the main character and her friends must figure a way out of here before they are part of the damages.

The second installment in the Snow Falls Alaska series finds Bethany and Julie suffering from boredom and looking for an adventure or at least something different to do. Unfortunately, their trek to an icy mountain inn leads to them trying to unravel a mystery and ultimately to a fight for their lives. I don't consider this a cozy in the truest sense of the word; it's more of a thriller to me. This story will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you wanting to turn page after page. I highly recommend this book. Happy Reading!

In line with Meadows former Alaska series, this is more of a thriller than a cozy as Bethany and Julie braves treacherous roads with the intention of helping restore an old ski resort. What they find exudes more a crypt like atmosphere than a cozy ski lodge. When they are essentially trapped and discover a body in the walk-in fridge, danger awaits them in every turn and practically no one's motive seems pure, they start to wonder if they will live to see another day.

Lovely story. It reminded me a bit of And Then There Were None with the fact that the main characters were alone in desolate place. I loved the easy friendship between Bethany and Julie. I also loved Claude and Samantha. I liked how she wrote the older couple with such realism.
I loved the atmosphere of the story. It was spooky and it gave me a little chill at parts. Her use of darkness really worked for mystery.

Bethany and Julie are feeling the need for a change of scenery. In doing this they end up making 2 new friends while dealing with a dangerous situation. None of the individuals encountered once arriving at the isolated ski resort were what they seemed. Bethany with help Claude, Samantha and Julie was able to puzzle out the mystery and get all 4 of them home safely. This is a great series. Can’t wait to see what awaits on the next book.

Deadly Twists and Turns

Another crazy insane plot, by greedy sick minds. Takes place in a deserted ski lodge. Tricked into the plot Bethany and her friend July
go to help repair the ski lodge. But are sucked into a insane murder
plot by the killers themselves. Now they have to survive being
trapped in a deserted lodge with the two people who were hired to
bring them up to the lodge. Now they have to survive to live. A great read, one you can’t put down. Am eagerly waiting the next book.

A great second installment in the Snow Falls Alaska series. This is a great series so far and a must read for everyone. I love the characters of Bethany and Julie and as this book opens they are bored to death and looking for anything to break the monotony. They get more than they bargained for when after going out on an adventure they find themselves trying to solve a mystery and stay alive at the same time. I loved this book and highly recommend the series.

I enjoyed this cozy mystery story with all of the characters. The main character was Bethany Lights.

Bethany Lights and Julie jump at the chance to go to an remote spot. They are going so that they can help renovate a ski resort. But things don't go as they have planned.

This was a fun short story to read. It has action and adventure. It was fun trying to solve the mystery.

Another great cozy mystery in the series. Bethany and Julie are really bored with life in Snow Falls, Alaska, and in order to put something new in their daily do's they fly to help a friend to recover a very remote and old sky lodge. That's their big mistake - they'll be hunted and will hunt a killer. Fritters and Fatality has suspenseful and funny parts and makes good reading and entertainment.

good clean book

Definitely a mystery on how they got up to ice Mountain. Who is trying to kill whom find the gold Claude turned out to be a good man with a soft heart and his wife Samantha the only way they made it through everything was to stick together, but how they stuck together makes a good story.
