I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Brynn Ford excels at writing dark romance that inevitably drags you under and refuses to let you up for a single breath of air. Unheard is no exception to the rule.
A tale told with a beautiful balance of plot, steam and action, Unheard is a thrilling bite-sized morsel introducing readers to the Senseless series, a collection of standalone novellas set in the same universe. Within its pages you’ll find the story of a love that should not be, a love built upon a foundation of violence. Theirs is a passion sparked from the brutality of the fight, each breathing life into the other.
Birdie is a key witness in a prolific murder, set to testify and finally put a notorious drug kingpin behind bars. Only the night before the trial she finds herself at the mercy of a masked hitman meant to silence her. Hendrix is the man sent to complete the job to pay off a debt, and yet he can’t find it in himself to pull the trigger.
What blooms between them is the most delicious example of insta-lust, both Birdie and Hendrix sending pulses of electricity to bring the other back to life, sending shockwaves through their bodies and souls. It’s a case of so wrong, but so right, and their chemistry sets them ablaze. There exists an undeniable pull between them, but their desire for each other puts them both in the crosshairs.
Ford keeps you on the edge of your seat from the moment the masked stranger emerges from the dark closet until the very end. While told at an engaging breakneck pace, the plot never thins, and we get glimpses into the grand picture that will hopefully reveal itself more and more throughout the series. I’m very much looking forward to seeing how things evolve in the coming installments.
