Four Letter Word #3

A Selfish Kind of Love

Rate this book
When Tessah Jones turned 18, she learned to put her charming ways to use and get whatever she wanted from men. At 21, she was living her best life on someone else’s dime, with someone else’s husband, and had no qualms about it! But when her sponsor wants more than she’s willing to give, she wants out and it lands her in the arms of the last person she’d ever expect or want it to — Kyree.

Kyree Warwick has a high tolerance for a lot of things but women like Tessah weren’t one of them. Their dislike for one another was no secret but when an unfortunate turn of events has him seeing her in a new light —he does the complete opposite of what his gut says and follows his heart down a path neither him nor Tessah thought possible.

As Tessah finds herself caught up in the rapture that is Kyree, she has to come to terms with who she is as the love she was never looking for is put to the test because of her selfish ways. Follow Tessah on her journey as she finds the true meaning of love.

Miami bred, Bella Jay (born Precious Rodgers) has had a love for books since she was a little girl. Getting lost in them was a favorite past time but writing them has become a true love. In 2018, with a little push she stepped out on faith and released her first novel to the world allowing her writer alter ego, Bella Jay, to take flight into the writing industry.

She writes spicy & contemporary Black romance books with unapologetically flawed characters who she loves to fix.

When she’s not wrapped up in her characters, she can be found traveling the world, building her empire, sipping on tea or wine while reading a book, and wishing healthy eats were pancakes or cupcakes.

I've finished book three in this series and I think I'm going to add Bella Jay to my list of favorite authors. Tessah Jones was a girl that knew exactly what she wanted, the finances without out the love. She was living her best life, all on her sponsor's dime. Until one day, one of them wants something more from her and Tessah is just not ready for that. Kyree hated everything Tessah stood for. Her gold digging tendencies reminds him of his baby momma/ex and he wanted to stay far away from her kind. When he gets to know the real Tessah, he throws caution to the wind, trying his hand at a relationship with her. Tessah's selfish tendencies throws a monkey wrench in her and Kyree's plans, helping this read live up to it's name. I loved how this story is pretty much taking place at the same time as the first two stories, just from two different points of view. There's no lack of drama in this story and I am definitely here for all of it. I can't wait to read the next installment.

Sooooo good! Man this author has a gift because I did not care for Tessah or her choice of friends (still don’t care for the latter btw) at all. But she gave her depth and her growth while still maintaining what made her unique was amazing.

She was a man eater, selfish and flawed and I think she may be my favorite of the ladies. Kyree was everything, the perfect man for her. They stumbled, fell and came to a screeching but love kept them in the race. This was a great read.

Ooooo Okay let me just say for whatever reason I'm not entirely sure I didn't like Tessah before this book lol
BUT NOWWWWW she's the homie lol
I LOVED her growth!
Seeing her side of things changed my perspective.
In the beginning I was like "this girl" lol by the end I was like "YASSSSS BIHHHHH"
Kyree tho.... MANNEEE he is BAE!
He taught her not to judge a book by it's cover. He was an onion and she had to peel those layers back to get to the core of him. He did NOT play about Cherish Kylee tho!
He loved Tessah through her pain and gave her a big piece of what she was missing.

NOOOOWWWWW BELLLAAA JAYYY BRING THAT TAIL HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!
Adie & Waze WHAT'S UP WITH IT??
I know you said Fall 2019, but wheeennnnnn or do I need to guess that release date too?!

P.S. Thankies for the advance copy so I could read and review!

A story that I didn't looked for but definitely welcomed

Let's just say I wasn't a fan of Tessah from the previous books in the series. I was almost tempted to skip over this one but I am so glad that I didn't. This author is gifted with her pen. She provides you with a story that will have you laughing, crying, and even cursing but when you get to the end you are thoroughly satisfied or at least I was. Let's just say an unlikely pair formed through an unfortunate circumstance. I definitely loved the evolution of both Kyree (all bae) and Tessah but I ached for them when things became too complicated. Without giving out much spoilers, please give this author and this series a try. It is worth the read. Off to the series finale...

Good book

It was nice seeing Tessah from this point of view because I didn’t really like her in the other books. I’m still waiting to see who is the baby daddy for Addie!

I did not think I was going to like Tessah but this author has a way with words and breaking down the depth of each character. Tessah is a selfish gold digger who was not looking for love at the moment. She knew her place and played her role and did not care what people thought of her lifestyle. Kyree had zero tolerance for any bs in his life. All he wanted was to legitimize his business and provide for his daughter. Then when these two crossed paths because of their mutual friend Landon (insert eye roll), they actually got to see each others true character and developed a new found respect and love.

I can not put into words how much I enjoyed this book. It was great to see all the stories paralleled from each couples POV. I do not want this series to end.

Complex love

I really enjoyed getting to know Tessa and Kyree in this story. She was a very confused young lady who has a lot to learn and Kyree is a grown man willing to give her the time, love and friendship she needs. I liked that they couldn't stand each other and how they became closer. After reading about Adalyn in the previous book and Tessahs' connection to Landon, I wasn't too sure if I'd like Tessah, yet this story made me love her. I hope everyone's stories are unraveled a bit more in the next book, which finally tells us who is Adalyns baby daddy. Good read. On to book 4.

The 3rd book of the Four Letter Word series follows Tessah and Kyree. Tessah never wanted love she just used the word to get what she wanted. After the childhood she endured I completely understand. After the death of her parents, she is split from her brother and thrown into the foster care system that she barely made it out of. So when she turned 18, she decided that she’d use what she had to get what she wanted even if that meant with someone else’s husband. A chance meeting with her best friend’s associate( and someone she hates) Kyree turns into something that she doesn’t expect. She doesn’t know if it’s love or not since she’s never been in love before. Does she choose to run from it or let herself fall for Kyree? Tessah has a deep seated childhood secret that she’s never told anyone. Will she let it out and heal from it or will it be here demise?

I'm glad I was able to experience Tessa close up, it gave me a different view and understanding of her. The build up of her story and background was like watching a flower bloom and getting to the beauty of it's core! I enjoyed this book!

Tessah Jones is about her money. Love is basically non-existent on her priority list. If you want to get with her, your bank account needs to be sitting right. Hate it or love it, she makes no qualms about what she wants. Kyree Warwick is a friend of a friend and he believes he knows exactly what women like Tessah is about. And he ain't about it.

They both have preconceived notions about each other. I won't say they were necessarily enemies, but they definitely didn't like each other at first. Something happens that brings these two together in a time of need and a spark flies. They're soon in a relationship but it's not quite smooth sailing. There are some lies by omission, a few meddling outsiders, and some complicated feelings which test the limits of this newly minted relationship.

Kyree was a nice character. He was patient when I didn't think he would be, and loyal and willing to help when most probably would have turned their backs. He wasn't really looking for love either but he was quick and mature enough to acknowledge his feelings and open himself up to the possibility of love.

Tessah was a tricky character for me to like. The book lives up to the title quite well because she was very selfish when it came to love and not just her relationship with Kyree, but just about all of her relationships with the secondary characters. Towards the end, we're made privy to the full details of why she had the hardened heart and had reacted unfavorably in certain circumstances, I would've loved to get more of that sooner. Even if the others in the book didn't know the full details, I think giving the readers a little bit more information at the beginning of the book would have helped a lot more with her early character development. I really didn't start to feel like she was a layered character until later on and even then, I was left with some questions.

I liked the secondary characters in this novel. The book did a good job of keeping them present and entertaining without making the story about them.

In A Selfish Kind of Love, Kyree has to see Tessah for more than what she presents to the world and be willing to meet her halfway. Tessah must learn that while it is okay to be selfish, you have to mindful that it's not to your detriment. She has to be reminded that love doesn't always end in abandonment and when shared with the right person, can be beautiful.

This book was an absolute ride, in all the right ways. Tessah and Kyree are like fire and ice at first - but they quickly become just straight fire, and I LOVED IT.

Tessah uses her various talents to bag various sugar daddies, and Kyree - who leads his own life using different talents - isn't about Tessah at all. But then one event changes everything, and I'm so glad they were able to see just how good they could be together. From the moment they put their differences aside to explore what they had, they took off like a rocket. They went from hate to lust to love in no time at all, which was a whirlwind and exciting to watch unfold. While they hit their own bumps in the road - and I mean, they hit some CRAZY bumps - they eventually do find their way to the love they deserve.

This is a standalone, but I will definitely be going back to read the other books in this series. Thank you to Bella for providing an advanced copy, because it was such a good read.

This book was all of that and than some. Tessah was a woman who knew what she wanted and knew how to get it. Kyree was a man who didnt like how Tessah lived her life and didnt hesitate to let her know. When Kyree stepped in to help Tessah deal with a problem, that all changed. Kyree should Tessah how she really wanted to be treated without her using her body. I loved them two from the minute they had their first date and rooted for them for the rest of the book. When Kyree got hurt, Tessah couldn't handle it and walked away. Kyree was hurt and even hurt her as well. Go read this book and take a ride with Tessah and Kyree who didnt like each other to falling in love. This was my first book by this author and mkw she has sucked me in!!!

Loved it!

Tessah and Kyree were an interesting couple! They hated each other and something traumatic had to happen for them to fall for each other. Tessah wasn’t really anti-Love she just never experienced love. She was very territorial with her heart and used men for her selfish needs. Caiden showed her his true colors and put her life in danger. I think Tessah would have been comfortable living without love. Kyree had his flaws and his guard was up a ton but he showed Tessah true love. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed seeing the characters grow up and take their relationship to the next level. Ps, I think Cherry was giving me baby fever she was too cute. Good read!

Tessah, Tessah, Tessah!!!!! I wanted to reach into the pages of this book and choke the life out of her body! Her gold digging ways rings true to everyday real life situations and the outcomes she caused. Kyree had a lot of patience with her and loved her unconditionally. Throughout all her selfish actions, he was always there giving her his selfless love. Bella you've given us another page turner and as usual you leave us wanting to come for you 😏 with the whole baby daddy saga 😔! You are an awesome writer and keep sharing your talent with the world! I can't wait to read the final book....Fall is right around the corner! 😘 We need to know who the pappy is 😂!

I don't want to give too much info and spoil the book but I must say...I love when a couple has to work and overcome issues to make it work. And I love little tink-tink Cherish. 🥰 It's always a good story when the child is put first in any situation.

I haven't read the first two books in this series but I am definitely going to, to get the background info on a few of the characters. That character Landon though...smh 😒 That's all I am gonna say about that (in my Forest Gump voice).

The author did a great job of developing the characters, the plot, providing relevant content and an expertly structured depiction of black love and romance. The supporting cast provided a bit of drama and hilarity at times that kept the plot moving along. Romance lovers are going to enjoy the journey to love with Tessah and Kyree and the cutest three-year-old ever. Also, this reader will never look at timbs, a wig or an apron quite the same again.

Great series!

I really enjoyed all three books in this series and I fell in love with the way this author writes, and how she tied each book into the other providing different perspectives on what was going on based on who was telling it. I encourage you to read about these three couples and how loves just snuck up on em.... now if only I can get the next book because I can’t wait to know who’s the papi! ❤️

When a chance encounter changes your life

I really enjoyed this 3rd addition to the series. Tessah begins as a "bad" girl who doesn't love and doesn't know how to love and then a chance encounter turns her world upside down.

The selfish book in the series was exceptional. Kyree and Tessah had a drama-filled relationship from the start. I wasn't surprised by the way the story revealed the hidden messages within the story. The author did a great job developing this couple's relationship. A great story....

Selfish love

Going into this series I wasn’t sure how I was going to like Tessah or her story because of not really seeing her in a good light based on her besties, but I’m glad I read this story and got to see Tessah for who she really is. From book 1, I just knew that the way she was introduced, she was out there with Landon, but was pleased to see that wasn’t the case in book 2. In book 2, we got to see her tell Landon about himself and that he needed to do better with how he treated Addie, so I was thinking maybe she was an okay person. Then I got to her book and saw that she really was telling both her besties that they were foul and need to do better. It seemed like she rode the fence with their shenanigans but being put in the middle, I think I understood her stance on being loyal to her friends and trying to stay out of the middle of their mess as much as possible, while telling they were both wrong and why when needed.

I wasn’t expecting her and Kyree to get it together after they were enemies from the start, but I think with him being present and protecting her got them both to see each other in a different light. I actually liked these two together and enjoyed their banter and playfulness with each other. It seemed they both could be themselves with the other and I loved that they were able to create a no judgement zone to be able to get to know each other. I didn’t like that Tessah kept so many secrets about necessary things from Kyree, but I can understand her fear since they had only recently stopped being enemies. Their story was filled with ups and downs, good and bad, but I enjoyed most of it. Now I’m ready to read the final book to see whose baby Addie is carrying.

Let me start by saying I wasn’t rocking with Tessah before this book.
She gave “too good to care” energy...loud, flashy, and allergic to accountability. But baby- by the end? I was rooting for her like we grew up together. 🙌🏾

Tessah Jones finally got the main-character wake-up call she’s been dodging since book one. Money used to be her love language, pride her perfume. Then along came Kyree- patient, layered, fine, and lowkey allergic to drama and he cracked her shell wide open. He didn’t save her; he saw her. And that hit different.

Kyree was the definition of balance...soft when she needed comfort, firm when she needed truth. 🖤
He had that quiet masculinity that doesn’t have to announce itself. The way he peeled her like an onion- not to expose, but to understand...yeah, that’s grown-man energy.

And Tessah? Whew. The self-sabotage was loud, but so was her healing. Watching her untangle her pain, admit her flaws, and still chase love even when it terrified her… that’s character development. She went from “I want what I want” to “I deserve what’s real.” Growth, but make it ghetto fabulous.

This story gave messy lessons, real healing, and a reminder that love isn’t always gentle. Sometimes it’s the mirror that makes you face yourself.

💸 selfishness → self-awareness
🔥 lust → love
💔 fear → faith

The pacing? Smooth. The dialogue? Sharp. The chemistry? Electric once they finally stopped pretending they weren’t obsessed with each other.

It’s not perfect, there were moments I wanted to snatch Tessah’s phone and tell her to log off and heal...but that’s what made it real.

Bella Jay delivered another rollercoaster of love, ego, and redemption. I laughed, sighed, and cussed my Kindle, but I closed that last page proud of her growth and hungry for what’s next.

When love stopped being a transaction, Tessah finally learned what it meant to be truly rich. 💚

This book is a great read but out of all the others in the series it’s my least favorite. Like an 8/10 but just cause I couldn’t relate as much to this book as I could to the others. Tessah and Kyree make a great couple and have a cute storyline. I love how Kyree was subtle and bout his business. I also loved that he was a great father as that wasn’t something we’ve seen in the series yet. He was determined to make co parenting work. The playful relationship T and Ky have will always be super cute
