This is the first book to tackle the topic. Dry but essential reading for anyone interested in the often ignored battle of Petersburg. Howe is best at provided an analysis of command decisions. Howe's most contentious argument is that the Federals lost less due to heavy losses from the previous battles and more due to poor leadership.
