I “discovered” Timothy McGowen through his Arcane Knight books (now 2 books in the series - and, as per my separate review, total fun). Those were so good that I had to try others so I turned to his Last Born of Ki'darth series. The bad news here is that they’re dangerously addictive leading to binge reading and loss of sleep. The good news is that they’re a total blast and, even better, the series is complete (though there is room for a sequel that I hope is in the works). I loved watching the lead here, Nick, develop in powers, maturity and as a truly neat person, all in the context of an extremely exciting and well written story arc that has been a total joy ride. As a bonus, the mysterious creator entity Mah’kus, who had an even more mysterious - so far - role in the Arcane Knight books, also appears here thus very loosely tying the series, so who knows maybe there will be a crossover some day. As for this series, and each of its books, they’re all deserving of a 5 star rating in my opinion - and all highly recommended.

Another story out of the park.

The super interesting part of it is that we take a bit of a detour away from the pseudo-sci-fi world of the first book into what we normally call fantasy.

The main character struggles to get powerful enough in order to be able to save his new adopted race and throughout that process, we are introduced to more and more of the setting through some pretty awesome world building.

Much like the first one, nothing seems forced or railroaded, which I always appreciate.

Now, to see where the story will end!

very good

This was an excellent follow up to book one. I look forward to reading the next. I hope we find out what happened to some of his friends from this one! Start from book one and enjoy!

excellent arena battle

In this book Nick is still alive ,but he goes to the world of the dead. Where he fights in arena to gets great power or a wish from the gods Way. And he wins how he gets there is the real story. And excellent book.

Very entertaining

This story of guy being hero and rescuing a cat from a burning building that he thought was a baby and being sent to a magical world was a fantastic read.

Been a while since I read the first one, so took me a chapter or two to get back into the setting. Very good story though, and I'm now very interested in reading the next one in the series.
