GEORGIE DUPREE: CLASSROOM CONFIDENCE is a story about being new at school. Georgie is nervous about starting at a new school, and she starts off the day by making new connections. When she hears the classroom affirmation, she makes up a little dance, but some of the other kids laugh at her. Although the teacher points out that their behavior is inappropriate, Georgie's stomach is hurting. After a trip to the nurse, she is back in class and full of nerves. The first day does not go as well as she could have hoped, but she is prepared for her second day - and everything goes much better! The other students even want to learn her special dance.

What I loved: This is a picture book that will speak to nerves around being the new kid in school. Georgie voices all of her fears and anxieties, and children can see how they are escalated by the way her first day goes. However, readers can also see how she tries again and things get better. The colorful images are full of great details of the classroom and new friends with plenty of diversity. The font used is clear with key phrases in larger font for emphasis.

What left me wanting more: The story is a bit dense in terms of text with a lot of text on each page spread. This may work better for older readers as a result of the high ratio of texts to images, though the characters seem younger. I also would have liked if the bullying was addressed a bit more, though the focus remains on Georgie and how she perseveres, which is also helpful.

Final verdict: Overall, GEORGIE DUPREE: CLASSROOM CONFIDENCE is a story about being new in school and regaining your confidence.

Georgie is a little nervous about her first day at a new school. Her neighborhood friends are in a different class. What if she can't make any new friends? But Georgie sees a girl with pink shoes and asks to be her friend, and by the end of the day Georgie has three new friends. Georgie makes up a dance and teaches it to her new friends at school. Even the stuck-up kids want to learn Georgie's new dance. Georgie learns to be confident and keep trying, even when she feels nervous or anxious. Each day is new opportunity to learn and be kind!

I love this cute book! There are so many positive messages about coping with anxiety and learning to be confident in new situations. I love the affirmations that the teacher has the class say together. Georgie says them to herself, and it helps her to be more calm and confident. Georgie is so spunky and smart! She has a good heart and she is very friendly. I just want to give her a big hug! What a sweet little girl!

The illustrations are so adorable! I could really feel Georgie's emotions through her facial expressions in each scene. The art work is lovely, and I like the cute designs for each character.
This whole book is so wonderful!

In this, the second book featuring young Georgie Dupree, it's the first day of school for the protagonist. Although she's a little anxious because the school is so large, she knows she has two friends who will ease her transition. But after her parents drop her off at school, Georgie ends up in a different class from Camila and Quinn. Still, she makes a couple of new friends and loves her teacher's affirmation to start the day. When two classmates make fun of her for dancing during the affirmation, Georgie feels embarrassed and her tummy hurts. The school nurse offers reassurance as do her family members, and she returns the next day with a strategy to deal with those bullies. Georgie is able to remain true to herself while drawing others into her circle. While I don't particularly love the illustrations, partly because of the flatness of the colors but also because her parents are wearing the same clothes on the two days they escort Georgie to school, the notion of affirmations and self-empowerment are important enough to make this picture book a good choice for sharing with youngsters who will certainly face judgmental classmates who make fun of anyone or anything different.
