I'm just a simple small town country girl, haunted by Alpha Men who talk in my head 24 hours a day.
I knew I wanted to write when it became clear I couldn't be happy with just viewing other people's stories. I always wanted to rewrite them.
Like why did Jack have to die? Why couldn't Rose move her butt over? Because that was a huge piece of wood she was on, people.
Happy Endings should be fought for, but they should always happen. Mine might take some curves and twists, but they eventually get there.
Having published over fifty stories, it always feels surreal that this is my life. Hitting USA Today had me crying for days, but nothing is more special than hearing from readers that they loved one of my books.
Marigold is the youngest daughter of the Lucas Clan and is dead set against having a relationship as she has dreams she wants to fulfill and can’t see herself achieving those dreams with a family in tow. But when she meets Slater, a player on her brothers team, she knows she’s met her match but tries to play hard to get because she knows a “player” when she sees one😉
Poor Slater has his work cut out for him in getting Marigold to agree to anything. But nothing in life is worth more than working hard to get it❣️Great story and had some awesome humour out comebacks from Mary, an enjoyable and fast paced read. I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
Marigold has plans for the future and they don’t include love or a relationship or at least she thought they didn’t. Suddenly she can’t stop thinking about one of the players on her brother’s baseball team, so a physical relationship seems like the perfect solution. Let the games begin!
Slater may have a reputation with the ladies but when he meets Marigold he knows she is special. He will take whatever she is willing to give him and use that time to convince her that they aren’t meant to be a fling but forever.
The banter is humorous, the chemistry is intense and when you throw in the rest of the Lucas family you know you are in for a fun ride.
I make no excuses at how much I love Ida Sue and her crazy girls named after flowers and boys named after colors. The humor and hijinks of these characters are the best part of this series. That being said, I have been waiting for Marigold's story . I had high expectations. Even with a cute couple of scenes, this book was not my favorite. It felt rushed. It felt like a novella which disappointed me and made me feel cheated.
That being said, I'm Still a huge fan of this author.
Marigold meets Slater at a baseball game and decides she doesn’t want a relationship. But Slater has other plans, she’s the one for him. Slater has no idea what he’s in for with Marigold’s family. Between his coach, Green, who is Marigolds brother, and Ida Sue, her mom, Slater is in a whirlwind. But, Marigold is worth it! Love these two!
The Lucas Brothers - Book 9 - A Hard Time - By - Jordan Marie
This is the ninth book in the absolutely brilliant series and it still has me gripped from beginning to end like only this author can. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Slater Daniels and Marigold "Mary" Lucas the youngest of the Lucas Clan. Their story wasn't as long as the others sadly but that is only because I didn't want it to end, however it still had me hooked with the turn of every page. Filled with passion, loads of humour and some emotion for good measure. There were some obstacles to overcome but not like previous stories but then I guess that adds to making this one different. It was also great to see Ida Sue and Jansen bantering away as that is what makes these stories that bit more special and unique. I adored Slater and Mary and hope that we see more of them in the future. I am looking forward to Cyan and Alice's story in the future too. Also I am thrilled that there is a new spin off series, named the Mr Series coming from this Lucas Brothers series that will feature around Green's baseball team members Parker Huntington and Faye Archer, Ryder, Santos, Finn Archer, Big Mike, and many more. Mr Heartbreaker and Mr Break Your Headboard are out already so hopefully we will see more of the original Lucas Clan pop up again and especially Ida Sue, that woman is a force of nature. I also hope that in the future there could be a Lucas Brothers next generations series as I don't want to say goodbye to this magical family yet because they are just too special and I'm sure Ida Sue's work is not finished just yet. Join the fun by one clicking now, you won't be disappointed. Happy Reading. 5 out of 5 stars.
Book 9 in the Lucas Brothers series focused on the youngest sibling, Marigold, and a player in the minors—Slater Rush. Right from the first page there had been a tremendously powerful energy between Slater and Marigold. Even when Marigold professed she didn’t want a relationship she couldn’t help but be attracted to Slater.
Mary, aka Marigold, was a really likeable character with her clearly defined goals and self honesty. I like how she reflected on things and could see where she might have gone wrong or misunderstood things. She’s definitely like Ida Sue in her take-no-nonsense approach to life. I also liked how Mary saw Slater as someone she was interested in and went for it, once she’d accepted the terms of their arrangement.
Slater I felt was hiding his true self but not when he was with Mary. His cocky, self-assured attitude only took him so far and he discovered this after being in different situations. I liked Slater and felt a bit sympathetic for him because of his upbringing—it was the total reverse of Mary’s, that’s for sure. Together they had crazy chemistry and the steamy scenes proved it.
Ida Sue, of course, was her marvellous whacky self and practically stole every scene she was in. The humour in the story was absolutely fantastic, just like every story in this series. There was fun banter between characters and hilarious scenes where you couldn’t help but rip out in laughter—I am not sure I will ever be able to think of anything or anyone trampolining again without thinking of the scene in this story. 🤣
An entertaining story that literally makes you feel fantastic.
Marigold "Mary" Lucas has no use for love or marriage or anything else that comes with it. She's got plans to travel and she doesn't want anything or anyone to get in the way of those plans. Most especially not player (in ever sense of the word) Slater Daniels.
Slater Daniels, all star catcher and playboy extraordinaire has had his eye on Mary and thinks she might be the one to make him change his playboy ways. Unfortunately, he crashes and burns when he accuses her of being a groupie and trying to sleep with her own brother, who happens to be his coach.
As with every Lucas family book we get love and humor and hamburger (IYKYK) and Ida Sue. While the Lucas family, and Ida Sue in particular, are all crazy and chaotic, they're also deeply devoted to each other and support each other to the ends of the earth.
Slater and Mary have choices to make and plans to figure out. Will these two be able to have a happily ever after together? Will they scratch an itch and move on? Will they tame each other and make a life together? To answer these questions you'll have to read the book.
While this is book 9 in the series, you do NOT have to read the other books to read this one. This work is a complete stand alone. I do highly recommend reading all the other books in this series though so you'll have a deeper love and understanding of this wonderfully crazy and chaotic family. This series is awesome and amazing and seriously one of my favorite families ever.
Hilarious as per usual!! I always love my trips to Texas with the Lucas Clan and A Hard Time was no different. The story follows the youngest Lucas – Marigold and the rookie hotshot on Green’s baseball team, Slater Daniels. Oh these two were a hoot and a half. Mary aka Marigold does not want to fall in love – she has dreams that involve travel and adventure and she thinks there is no room for love if she wants to be able to do these things. A budding author herself she hopes one day to give up her job and do as she please. Slater Daniels has earned his reputation on and off the field. A hit with the ladies he is not shy about what he gets up to in the team’s hotels when they are on the road. A chance encounter with Mary leaves him awestruck. Determined to have her, Slater sets about making a complete idiot of himself with some comments he is lucky didn’t earn him a black eye. Mary has no problem putting the cocky ball player in his place, but she cannot ignore her attraction to him either, so she makes a deal with him – although with how they are feeling you know “friends with benefits” is not going to last too long! There is a moment in the story where I thought I was going to wet myself I laughed so hard – all I will say is watch out for the morning after breakfast – I was killing myself with laughter The Lucas brothers always takes you to the land of the insane I absolutely love my time there no serious allowed please. Enjoy!!
Anytime I read a Lucas family story, I know it’s going to be filled with the craziest antics that I’ve ever seen and it’s amazing to watch. This one focuses on the youngest girl Marigold and the hot up and coming baseball stud Slater, or AC for short (wink, wink). I think Mary is the most like her mother and boy is it apparent in this one. Mary will of course deny it until the sky turns purple but it’s there and goes to show Slater is in for the ride of his life. He doesn’t care though. One look at Mary and he doesn’t see anyone else but her and that makes my heart go pitter patter all over again. The women never make it easy on these men though and that’s exactly what they need. Keeps life more interesting that way.
J. Marie keeps me on my toes with this family and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Everyone needs an Ida Sue in their life. She has the biggest heart of them all and with one foot in the funny farm. I absolutely love reading about her and her family and I’m kinda sad she’s running out of kids now. I’m hoping it carries on with the grandkids because this is a series I will absolutely read forever.
Slater had his work cut out for him after he initially assumed Marigold was a bat-bunny. Yikes!!!! I enjoyed their banter back and forth and the humor sprinkled throughout the story. There really wasn't much angst or drama in the story, it was more about Slater trying to get through to Marigold that he was in it for the long haul and that she didn't have to give up her dreams to be with him.
Three negatives that kept this book from being five stars. It really needed a better proofreader; there were missing words and misspellings in multiple places that distracted from the flow of the story. Also, Slater took her bra off twice in the same sex scene (once on page 83 and again on 86)--say whaaaaaat?!?!? Finally, Marigold worked in healthcare and Slater was known as the team slut whose nickname was the Be@ver T@mer, yet she didn't make him glove up the first couple times they hooked up. Ewwww!!!
This story is focused on Marigold, the baby of the family and Slater’s story. They couldn’t have grown up more different, but yet both complimented each other so well.
The banter in this book was top tier and one of my favourites out of any book written thus far. Marigold definitely gave Slater a run for his money and met him head on since page 1. However, Slater was so determined, yet patient. I love that about the men in her books, they push, yet know when to give their women enough time to think it through before they’re reminding them just how well they are together and this book delivers just that.
If you want a smooth read with minimal angst, this is for you. The one liners Jordan slides in there and our believed Ida and Jan, it’s makes for fantastic read.
Once I opened it up, I legitimately couldn’t put it down.
What I liked: I’m sure I wrote this before but Ida Sue is one of my top favorite characters out of all the books I’ve read. She is someone I would love to have in my life and because daughter Marigold was just like her I really enjoyed this book. She had me laughing so hard I woke up my husband. Slater was just the right hero for her and her crazy family. Definitely going on my reread list <3
What I didn’t like: I felt like the ending was rushed.
***Major Spoilers/ Details/Triggers: H is a minor league baseball player and the h is his coach’s sister. H sees h and wants her. She finally gives him a chance. They have a lot of laugh out loud moments. HEA
Descriptive Sex: Yes
Final thoughts: This was a great read for me I just wished it was longer. Can’t wait for Cyan’s book.
I'm such a massive fan of this series, It's my happy place. It's one I recommend to readers who enjoy stories with laugh out loud moments, crazy antics and even crazier characters. These books are full of heart warming feels, plenty of steam and witty banter. They're addictive, entertaining and just fun to read.
This book is about Marigold and Slater and I loved how they first met. Slater tries all his best lines, turns on the charm but Marigold is having none of it. I love Marigold she really is her mother's daughter strong, opinionated and full of sass. She makes Slater work just as hard off the pitch as he does on it. As usual there's hilarious consequences once Ida Sue gets wind of a man in her daughter's life and I think it's fair to say, she's team Slater.
Another great book that made me smile, swoon and laugh my a$$ off. I'm already craving my next Lucas brother fix.
Marigold and Slater are a wonderful addition to the Lucas Brothers family books. Slater, shall we say has a reputation for being quite the player on and off the baseball field. Marigold is coach Green's sister and is no one's notch on their bedpost. The moment that Slater sees her in the stands he has no idea who this lovely woman is but makes it his mission to woo her! Now. you know that Marigold is not going to make this easy on him. No throw in her crazy family that once gain lets us visit Ida Sue and all the clan we are in for a crazy ride. Marigold is sass, sweet, sexy, and determination all rolled into quite the package and Slater might just be the man to capture this wild gal! Get ready for a funny, crazy, romantic adventure with Slater, Marigold, a bunch of baseball players and a one-of-a-kind family! ~~Michele McMullen~~
💜🌼And JR Wallace Is On The Cover💜🌼 If you are already a fan of Jordan Marie and the the Lucas Brothers, you already expect a certain level of humor and heart to be in this book…and A Hard Time, which is Marigold and Slater’s book, will not disappoint you ..…of course, you also know the road to true love for any of the Lucases, leads right through Ida Sue…and there’s no one exactly like her..💜🌼 If you’ve never read or heard of Jordan Marie or the Lucas Brothers…A Hard Ride is book 9 in that series, and while I recommend you read the whole series just because it’s a good series,… these books can also be read as stand-alones…💜🌼 I recommend this book, this series and this author ..She is one of my favorites and I’ve never read a book of hers I didn’t love…💜🌼
Either my feelings about Jordan Marie's writing have changed or there's been a gradual decline. And I'm not just talking about grammatical errors, although seriously if you need an editor to do a quick read through for typos, I'm happy to do it. The repetition of inner dialogue was annoying, given how short the story is and antics that once made me laugh seem to be getting more and more absurd as the series goes on. I'm also annoyed when the cover model looks nothing how the person is described in the book. Don't get me wrong, he's delicious, but nothing about him reminds me of a young Lenny Kravitz. I could also go on about a strong alpha being different from a predator or stalker, but also don't think that should have to be said.
Entertaining story but too short. Not enough backstory for Slater, we know he grew up in foster care and not much else. Never really clear why Marigold was so against serious relationships. I felt like this book was rushed, the plot is pretty thin and the characters are under developed. Also, they are from a small town, which are typically less culturally diverse and yet the fact that they are an interracial couple is not even mentioned. I'm tired of reading romance books where the person's cultural background is rendered invisible. The book also Had too many grammatical errors. The last few books in the series have not been great so I don't think I will be reading anymore of this series.
Another fabulous story in the Lucas clan by this wonderful author! As per usual this has will have you laughing out loud and wondering what Ida Sue will come up with next! This is about the youngest Marigold who has plenty of plans that don’t include a man and the newest ball player on Green’s team Slater, who is quite a player off the field. Such strong chemistry between these two and their friends with benefits plan which is really only Marigold’s plan anyway is kind of thrown out the window. Ida Sue and Jansen were hilarious! A well written story with amazing characters! Absolutely loved it! I am voluntarily leaving an honest review for this complimentary copy of this book
It's always a good time when I get to immerse myself into the world of the Lucas family. There is just something about them that makes my heart happy. I am yet to find a member of this family to dislike, they're all amazing. Of course any time Mama Ida Sue makes an appearance there's no shortage of laughs.
Marigold thinks she doesn't have the right genes to fall in love. She thinks she's simply different than the rest of her family. However, when Slater decides he's got his sights set on her things start to change. Slater knows what he wants, it's just a matter of making sure Marigold wants the same things.....
Another great story by Jordan Marie, she's truly a wonderful writer. A Hard Time had a strong plot, the story was well written. Slater and Marigold were absolutely made for each other, loved the connection, their bantering, it was sexy, they brought out a different side to each other. The attraction between Marigold and Slate was strong, their chemistry was off the charts steamy, they were good together. Slate and Marigold were well matched, I enjoyed their story. This is a great story, 5 Stars! Thank you, Jordan Marie. Wonderful job :)
This story had me in stitches. It’s exactly what I needed. Laughs and love…perfect!
Marigold is about to meet the man that will rock her world, Slater. He’s not only a player on her brother’s baseball team but HE IS A PLAYER off the field. But Slater knows Marigold has changed him quickly and without regret. He’s ready to prove to her and the world that she belongs to him and he’s in for the long haul.
Add in Ida Sue along with her animals and shenanigans and this story is quite simply a MUST READ.
How does this series continue to bring, heat, happiness, love, sexy times and laughter every dang time?!?! I am 100% team Ida Sue! I adore her insanity, independence even her crazy kinky self is brilliant! I loved how Slater saw Mary and didn't back down until he made her his! Treat yourselves and start this series, but read in order carryover characters and stories that just gets better and better! If there was an award for best loved, crazy , hilarious character, Ida Sue would have my vote! ✌
I will start by saying g I freaking love Jordan Marie's writing very funny , however this book fell flat for me. It wasn't as long as the other Lucas families books, I truly enjoy Ida sue and her shenanigans, but this book she was tamed way down for my liking. The book was just missing I guess more drama and it felt like a lot was just missing in general. I don't want to say without giving away. It was emptier then the others in the series.
I absolutely love everything about this book and the Lucas family. If you haven’t started experiencing this family, you most definitely have to start!! Ida Sue and Jansen are awesome as always. My favorite couple!!
But this is Slater and Marigold’s story. They are sensational together. Slater is a sexy baseball player and wants Mary immediately. But she wants nothing to do with him. She has no time for a relationship.
Marigold has a crazy idea to have a friends with benefits arrangement. She definitely attracted to him so why not have some fun. Slater agrees because he will take her anyway he can get her. But they soon realize what they have is something much more beautiful.
You will, laugh, cry and just feel really good when your done reading it. That’s what Jordan Marie’s books do to you. They bring a smile to your day😊
Jordan Marie is back with a vengeance with the next book in the Lucas Brothers series, but this time it's one of the Lucas sisters: Marigold, aka Mary! This steamy, laugh-out-loud friends-with-benefits romance is one of my favorites. Mary is tough as nails and doesn't let Slater get away with anything! Slater was a total player before meeting Mary, but for him, it was love-at-first-sight, or maybe I should say "lust!" This is another fun story with the crazy Lucas family, and I would definitely recommend it!
It is always fun to pick up a Lucas family book. This time it's Marigold's turn with Slater, a player on her brother's team. It was fun watching the two of them banter and antagonize each other a bit as they started to find there was something unexpected between them.
The story is nicely paced with plenty of humor, fun, and romance. I also liked getting to catch up with characters from previous books, especially Marigold's family.
This was a quick, fun read and I hope we get to see more of the Lucas family soon!
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC for an honest review.
This book is the latest in the Lucas Brothers series. I absolutely loved this book! If you have read any of the other books, you know you will laugh out loud and this one was no different. Marigold feels like she doesn’t need or want love. Slater has his work cut out for him. I still love Ida Sue!! You’ll need to read this book to see can Slater change her mind and what hilarious mishaps happen. I highly recommend this book.
4.5⭐️ I love these stories! They are filled with so many laughs and steamy moments. It’s easily a perfect romantic comedy that leaves you feeling good. And I love that we get to see all the other siblings from the previous stories. Marigold and Slater are great. He’s cocky and persistent, she’s stubborn and in denial. The scene with the Guinea pig?!! One of the funniest things I’ve read in a long time!
Any story about the bouquet beauties and the Crayola gang is one that I am down to read. While each daughter/son has a uniquely hilarious storyline, their mother Ida Sue steals each chapter in which she appears! That woman is who I want to be when I grown up! Marigold and Slater were sexy, hot, funny and perfectly matched. I absolutely adore this author and her books, no matter the genre, never disappoint. What are you waiting for?
