Nate Archer’s life hasn’t been easy. He lost his brother, fell in love with his brother’s fiancée, and then had his world rocked when his brother returned, very much alive.
Special Agent Cara Hughes is married to her job. That is until she gets involved in a case that puts her side by side with her significant other, Nate Archer.
Together, Nate and Cara traverse the rugged terrain of their lives and relationship while one is forced to come to terms with a life-changing decision—one that could ultimately destroy them both.
Heidi McLaughlin is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and USA Today Bestselling author of The Beaumont Series, The Boys of Summer, and The Archers.
In 2012, Heidi turned her passion for reading into a full-fledged literary career, writing over twenty novels, including the acclaimed Forever My Girl.
Heidi’s first novel, Forever My Girl, has been adapted into a motion picture with LD Entertainment and Roadside Attractions, starring Alex Roe and Jessica Rothe, and opened in theaters on January 19, 2018.
This novella is yet another amazing addition to the series.
This one follows the life of Nate, and Cara. I was so glad they reconnected in the original series. Cara is a badass who will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of what’s really going on. Which definitely comes in handy given what this group has been through.
Nate is still piecing his life back together with Cara, his brother Evan, and just trying to come to terms with the fact he doesn’t trust his job after what happened to his brother and the team.
There’s something about the mystery of this series that keeps me wanting more. We’re still finding out details 3 books and 2 novellas later. Its strangely addictive, like a book version of Criminal minds, or NCIS.
I would ask for a thousand more of these books, and it still wouldn’t be enough.
Suspenseful, intriguing,mysterious, and addictive.
I am being a little harsh here but, I have to be honest. There are a ton of 5 star reviews here that have me laughing. If you are wanting to support an author then go right ahead but dont lie. There is no way this could ever be one of the best books you ever read.
This one came with the Nate and Cara's story. What bothered me about Nate was how fast he forgot about his forever love Ryley and moved on with an old flame. Overall it is the length of a novella. On my kindle it was 62 pages. Not thrilled there was a cliffhanger...again
"Choose Us" by Heidi McLaughlin explores the emotional complexities of Nate Archer and Cara Hughes as they face the challenges of love, loyalty, and personal growth. The story weaves together the raw emotion of Nate’s past and the high-stakes demands of Cara’s career, creating an intimate and gripping narrative. The structure of the story, alternating between personal struggles and professional tension, keeps readers hooked and invested in their journey.
As Nate and Cara’s story unfolds, their choices lead to a climax that leaves many questions unanswered, making the need for a final installment undeniable. The ending feels like a pause rather than a conclusion, leaving readers eager to see how the story will ultimately resolve. This leaves me wanting more to bring full closure to the Archer family. Regardless, it's a great read and a must-have addition to your book collection. Happy Reading... enjoy!
I am so grateful that the author decided to add more stories to the Archer Series. I guess it could have ended with Save Me and I might have thought conspiracy was over. But now my brain is thinking of and loving all the possibilities. My mind is so happy at the moment. Life is glorious. I do believe it is time to binge read the complete series.
A few weeks ago Heidi McLaughlin released Here With Us paving the way for more thrilling, suspenseful moments. She is directing us toward possibilities and I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop. I didn't used to like cliffhangers, but this series has me so excited for each and every story. Choose Us gives us another peek into what might happen in upcoming books. I sure hope there is a lot more!!
Choose Us gives us an update on Nate and Cara. She has been busy fighting against sex crimes with the F.B.I. in Las Vegas. Nate is about to rejoin his SEAL team after a year sabbatical. I was expecting an amazing happily ever after. What I got was some" Holy Guacamole" moments. Then I got some "what were you thinking" moments. Things are getting complicated. It is time to rip off the bandaid and find out who is behind everything. I have a feeling this talented author is going to have us ripping off more than one as she blows our minds. I am so ready.
Are you ready? Are you ready? I have a feeling it is going to be a wild ride.
I had read the first 3 books years ago and they were so remarkable that I still remembered about the characters. This 5 star story was amazing.
Nate finally gets his HEA. After everything they went through over the years. Cara is married to her career but she loves Nate and has choices to make.
It was an addicting and entertaining story that held my undivided attention all through out. A quick read but full of greatness.
I wish I could say it can be read as a standalone but it would be more beneficial if they were read in order. Told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story.
Nate was left odd man out when the woman he thought he loved reunited and made a future with the brother he thought he had buried. Bit now it is Nate's turn to find his HEA. Cara gets some unexpected news which will lead her to decide if she wants a career or a future with Nate. And if that was not enough to deal with - do not forget we still do not have all the answers to the reasons behind his brother's "death".
While I enjoyed this one more than book #2, Nate gets his HEA. I also found that EJ is portrayed much older than the young kid we met in book 1 and I wonder if the author just did a touch of SORAS. It's a novella which leaves us on a cliff hanger with the promise of Justin's story in "See Me" for 2023. Right now it's 2024 and I've checked the author's website and I cannot see any update for the next book. I also hope we get some closure on the whole sex ring storyline.
What an amazing follow up to Here With Us! With Choose Us we get more of Nate and Cara's story. We find Cara working for the FBI and Nate about to rejoin his SEAL team. This one came with all kinds of twist and turns you never saw coming. I stayed on the edge of my seat and could not stop reading, as I needed to know more. I cannot wait to see what McLaughlin brings us next!!!
Loved. Loved. Looooooved Nate and Cara’s story. I am soooo happy we get these glimpses into their life again. While I had my doubts about Nate in the previous stories he continues to prove me wrong. He is the perfect book boyfriend and is exactly what Cara needs. I need more of the whole gang!!
Another great story for this series! I love Nate and Cara! I really enjoyed all the suspense and intrigue! Even though I knew there would be a cliffhanger of some kind, because I knew the whole saga with what happened to the guys wouldn’t wrap up until Justin Rask’s book, I’m still bummed! I hate cliffhangers! Lol I can’t wait for the next book!!
Wow! Love the story centers on Nate and Cara, the path their on. Second chances are the best, amazing, exciting, emotional, full of drama, suspense and lots of emotions. Loved this story. ❤️
Cara and Nate can finally find there HEA . Cara can find the bad guys close to home . Nate can go back to his team .. but all the monsters are still in the dark . Who us still coming for them ?
I am so glad that Nate and Cara got their story. I have loved this series from the start. I’m so excited that McLaughlin decided to continue this. I really felt like there were more to these stories and now we are finally getting to read them. So worth the wait!!!!
Too short. While I like Nate and Cara getting back together and giving a life. Thus was a short book. Ket’s get to who us all behind this that robbed these guys of their lives. We are dealing with really sick people
Amazing story in a series I'm loving.. So happy that Nate finally gets his happily ever after and can't wait to see what happens next in this suspenseful story
I really loved this book until the end. I feel like it was setting up for another book in the series. It’s like we found out so much information but had even more questions. I NEED ANSWERS.
Such a talented writer. I didn’t know how she would add on to the story after the originals but these small tidbits into what’s coming for the future books and the archer series are amazing. I love seeing all the original characters and how the kids are growing. I can’t wait to dive back into this world with the next book and see what mysteries are revealed-even though I also want to get sick thinking of those monsters hurting children.
This story centers on Nate and Cara. It continues the overall storyline with the conspiracy theory and Nate and Cara’s relationship. There is an ending and some closure, but I do hope the series continues. Love it!

4/28/25 My binge read is over. The journey was amazing and will continue with See Me.
