Musical Chairs

Rate this book
A naive young songstress teams up with her lookalike rival to make beautiful music together in this sweet and spicy enemies-to-lovers romance!

Winnie Burr can’t get noticed. For two years she’s been playing open mic night at bars throughout the city, trying to catch a break. And it doesn’t help that she feels in direct competition with Kirsten Kavanaugh, another singer-songwriter who looks so similar to Winnie that the two are often confused for each other.

While Winnie battles with her own wavering feelings of self-worth, Kirsten appears so confident and talented. Deep down, Kirsten is exactly who Winnie wishes she could be. But when these two young women are paired up for a songwriting event, Winnie must put aside her envy and work together with her musical rival.

The stories that Winnie has let stew in her head don’t always reflect the reality that’s in front of her. As she grows closer to Kirsten and begins to open up, will Winnie’s dreams of getting noticed come to fruition alongside an unlikely romance?

3.75 stars, cute little enemies to lovers, with musical backgrounds thrown in. I love stories set in my hometown, so that's a bonus. If your looking for a light hearted read with some good sexy spice, then this is for you.

All about choices

I so wish this on television or big screen. I would so love to actually hear the music. It has the depth of discovering true love with a lot of fun spiciness.

As I said before, Nico is a friend and I am an old roadie, so there was no way I'd miss this one!

I think Nico got the feelings of Winnie and Kirsten, two aspiring musicians, to a T, as well as the scene and the struggle to get it all togetheer and get known. The sweet romance between the two of course adds spice to the tale of their ascent to becoming full time musicians and songwriters for their band. The side characters are well worked, too, but what I like most about this book is that there is no stupid and unnecessary breakup shortly before the climax! Well done, Nico!

Enjoyed the story!

Two aspiring singers, Winnie and Kirsten, one with much self a doubt while the other appears super confident, start out as competitors at open mic nights. Everything changes when they're paired together in a song writing contest. Their differing backgrounds really added to their song writing abilities. I enjoyed the music scene and the growth in the relationship between the two young women that ultimately lead them into becoming full time musicians. Another quick and easy read from Nico!

A fun book

This is a fun book, good read. The MCs are great. The side characters are sweet and lovely.

One thing I will say for this novel is that it feels much more raw than a lot of similar novels. Maybe it’s just the openness of the narrative or the authors talent, but the characters feel very… real? Or close to my heart? The characters just had a grit to them that feels lifelike. Like they are real to the experience of what it is to be living in this world.

Regardless, definitely worth the read.

Sweet Story

Nicole the Dane does a great job of giving us characters in her stories who come across as real. You can identify with them and their issues, their worries and their accomplishments. I look forward, as always, to her next upcoming book. Well done!

Quick Read

I really loved this book!!!! Great romance without the drama. I would recommend this to anyone wanting an adult romance to read.

Nicolette never disappoints

I like the drama free read. Sexy characters, different types of people and professions. Steamy sex scenes and never afraid to dwell in anal pleasures

I really love the way Nicolette Dane writes and I love most of her books. Unfortunately I expected more from this book. Normally with enemies to lover stories you have to wait till the sparks ignite, with 'Musical Chairs' I didn't get that feeling. You know the one where in the end you are rooting for them to become lovers. I didn't feel like they was enemies and they were lovers pretty quick.

As much as I didn't really like the quickness of the book , I praise Dane again for her beautiful writing.

I look forward to what Dane brings out next.
