When JD Selkirk went to war, he had no idea what horrors he would experience or what they would do to him. Home, hospitalized and feeling like less than a man, physically, JD is getting much better, but the emotional loss of a limb and digits while surviving what killed his friends is too much and he does his best to alienate everyone who cares about him. Guess he wasn’t counting on the stubborn and hard-headed Paula who is determined to both cushion his rants from his family and force him to re-join the land of the living. When the family ranch goes up for sale, Paula is determined to give JD something to live for and that would be managing the ranch, even if it means kidnapping him and taking him home.

Fighting with every rude, crude and abrasive thing he could say or do, JD continues to barely stay afloat in the quagmire of his depression, refusing to become involved, but Paula’s determination is stronger, because she is a woman secretly in love. Is her love strong enough to save the ranch, save the man and save her heart?

In a family where the ranch is everything, there are a lot of adjustments to be made, from expectations to dreams to the flaws of each member, but a little bit of love can go a long way. Saving the Soldierby Irene Vartanoff successfully combines romance, family and the horrors of war and PTSD, creating a tale with enough conflict to raise the tension, enough simmering heat to warm a romantic’s heart and enough pain to raise the awareness of one of war’s biggest nightmares and enough hope to build on dreams. A great flow, some intense moments and one heck of a snowstorm!

What a great story

JD and Paula are like fire and ice only because JD is in the hospital after an IED explosion while serving overseas. A year and a half later the doctors say he is recovered but he refuses to leave the hospital. Paula gets him back to the ranch by unconventional methods to try to stop his brother from selling the ranch. Now he is really mad at Paula because he is trapped at ranch in blizzard. He realizes Baron is not a good leader and is serious about selling. Can JD convince him not to sell? What happens between him and Paula? Does he hate her like he acts or does he feel like a jerk for the way treats her?

A must read...

This book will hold your interest from the beginning to the end! Several storylines, all as good as the other. Brings to life many challenges people have to face in their life, emotionally and physically.

This story is full of emotion with lots of family drama. The story is touching and heartfelt but with lots of humour. JD is suffering but he is also causing his family to suffer only Paula sees that he needs a push. A great addition to this series.
