"Reading The Amazing Baby Name Book feels like discussing name choices with your best friends. A great read when you’re looking for a name for a baby (or a pet or a movie character), from the traditional to the unique and unexpected. But also great to read when you have nothing to name at all and are just looking for a smile." —Jill Santopolo, bestselling author of The Light We Lost
"A must for any new parents or name lovers."—Baker Machado, morning anchor, Wake Up with Cheddar

This is really just the authors taking random names and stating their feelings on them. Which fine, but the selection of names really leaves something to be desired. Some of the names really don't sound like human names and so many great names are missing. They combine boy and girl names so it is hard to sort through to begin with, but nearly every name I intentionally looked up wasn't even in there and instead there are names like Cashmere and Capri....again, are we talking about clothes or humans? Or Chromaticity and Chrysalis and Cochella...Dapper and Dare...I just really don't care how the author feels about every day objects. I would think that, perhaps, they are being a bit tongue in cheek here, which I can laugh along with some of these, but in the introduction they specifically stated they tried to include worthy candidates that may be overlooked and consider how a child would feel about having that name. I very much disagree that they actually considered the repercussions of some of these names. Sure, some unique ones they list are simply a bit quirky, but others would be downright torture to introduce oneself as. I love onomastics and have read most name books out there and this one is just not it.
It may be helpful for naming pets or fictional characters, but be aware that around half of the names don't work well for humans. Some are fine, but it isn't worth looking through the book to find the good or decent ones when there are so many other baby name books that have a much better selection.
You have got to be kidding me. A mix of asinine terms as names, celestial terms, "Cyber," "Url," and stripper names as "isn't this cute?" I am not making this up. Nothing redeemable about this book, a waste of publisher's time and energy. And a waste of my time. I'm surprised my eyes didn't get stuck in the "upwards" position.
Ah, the lead author lives in LA. Explains much. Even up in the PNW the majority of these names would get a questionable look from hipster parents.
I truly don’t understand what this book was trying to be. I thought it was going to be satire about baby names. The authors do suggest some of that, such as shape or number can be a name-Octagon! Eleven! But at the same time they recommend traditional Asian names. Or names like Dave and Sarah. It seems like the idea was all over the place. Barely amusing.
Despite the bad review, I actually think this book does exactly what it sets out to do. It is not a glossary of baby name books. It is clearly three people who sat down and just chit chatted about names. Some of them are super cute and I would totally use them for a dog or a person. Others are totally outlandish and I would never use them.
A really fun, whimsical, and beautiful book full of creative names and really clever reasons you should name your child one of those names. A very different take on how a child should be named and offering suggestions you would never think of yourself.
