Golden Kingdom #1-2

The Golden Kingdom Collection

Rate this book
Welcome to the Golden Kingdom, a society of mythical creatures such as gryphons, dragons, minotaurs and more that exists side-by-side to the human world. In this two-book volume, you’ll find magic, intrigue, mystery…and, of course, epic romance.

The Gryphon King’s Consort
Love takes flight.

The sudden death of the Gryphon King throws the Golden Kingdom into uncertainty, and Crown Prince Luca rushes both his coronation and an arranged marriage to a man he’s never met. Eirian is young and idealistic, and while they both want what’s best for their people, their philosophies couldn’t be more different. While Luca believes in honoring tradition, Eirian is determined to infuse modern values into their kingdom of magical creatures. When given the choice between loyalty to his husband and his own crusade, Eirian makes a decision that might doom their marriage.

Still, Luca is committed to making their union work, and that means forgiving his brash consort. But when Eirian becomes the target of a deadly conspiracy, Luca must act fast—or forever lose the chance to explore their burgeoning love.

<>The Dragon CEO’s Assistant
The heart remembers.

When Aidan Bishop staggers out of the woods, naked and suffering from amnesia, he needs to relearn who he is and where he fits in the world.

His boss, nearly five-hundred-year-old dragon Nassim, head of a successful tech company, hurries to claim his wayward assistant and guide him back into the life he disappeared from. As they get to know each other again, Aidan wonders if their relationship went deeper than employer and employee. But Nassim isn’t telling, and Aidan has a secret of his own… even if he doesn’t know it yet.

Jenn Burke has loved out-of-this-world romance since she was a preteen reading about heroes and heroines kicking butt and falling in love. Now that she’s an author, she couldn’t be happier to bring adventure, romance, and sexy times to her readers.

Jenn is the author of a number of paranormal and science fiction romance titles, including the critically acclaimed Chaos Station science fiction romance series (authored with Kelly Jensen) and her newest series, Ashes & Dust, a spin-off of her fan-favorite Not Dead Yet series.

She’s been called a pocket-sized and puntastic Canadian on social media, and she’ll happily own that label. Jenn lives just outside of Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband and two kids, plus two dogs named after video game characters…because her geekiness knows no bounds.

Jenn is represented by Deidre Knight of the Knight Agency.

The Gryphon King’s Consort (5 Stars) is a well-written introduction to this rich and colorful Mythos world. I like the author’s take on paranormals in the human world.
I became immersed in the lives of these two very different characters, understanding each point of view and applauding the author as she found just the right balance to keep them together.
The world-building is very well done. I could picture each scene as it occurred.
The storyline kept my interest, and I was sad to see it end.
This isn't the first time I've read this book. And it won't be the last.
I look forward to more from this author.

The Dragon’s CEO Assistant (4 1/2 Stars) is an excellent continuation of the Golden Kingdom series.
This is the second time I’ve read this book and can easily see why I enjoyed it so much the first time.
This author's take on paranormal characters is unique and fun. The storyline is interesting and unique and the characters lovable.
Aiden and Nassim are a good, strong couple with intense love and passion that leads to a satisfying HEA.
I look forward to more from this author.

This collection includes 2 of the most captivating paranormal stories I have ever read. Every one of them is about love and how will always win when confronted with power, intrigue and betrayal. Luca and Eirian and Aidan and Nassim showed us their strenght and their willingness to put their bond and their heart above anything else. It was a delight reading these wonderful stories, full of sweet and heartwarming moments but also full of obstacles to overcome and evilness and betrayal to defeat that made every kiss and steamy moment even more endearing. Both books got me at the edge of my seat the whole time. I hope for more books in this Golden Kingdom series.

Both stories in this collection, The Gryphon King’s Consort and The Dragon CEO’s Assistant, are filled with amazing characters, thrilling mystery, suspense, and sweet, steamy romance. Jenn Burke’s phenomenal world-building creates the magical Golden Kingdom for the mythos among us, living in a realm overlaying what is essentially modern-day Canada. Readers will be swept away by Burke’s unparalleled imagery and storytelling into an action-packed adventure that will have them turning page after page.

Queer mythical/paranormal romance collection of two stories. Fun world building and slow burn romances in both novels. I would have wanted to see more interstitial scenes in both with a focus on the development of Luca and Eirian's relationship and the rebuilding of Aidan and Nassir's. The Gryphon King’s Consort felt more complete. The Dragon CEO’s Assistant had inconsistent pacing with a rush to HEA at the end. I would read on if more stories were published in this world.

This was my second read for both of these stories and I enjoyed them as much this time as I did the last. I’m still hoping that there are more plot bunnies from the Golden Kingdom that decide to take over Jenn Burke’s brain, because I’m not done with this world (Rudy, Fazl, and Keene really need HEAs!) That being said, I’d give it 4.5 stars if I could, because “The Gryphon King’s Consort” is a 4 star book for me, with the “Dragon CEO’s Assistant” being a 5 star read. I won’t recap the stories themselves because the blurbs do that–really, if you read the blurb, you get a lot of the story right there. Overall, the world is an interesting one that’s not too different from our own, making it easy to understand. And I love Burke’s writing style!

“The Gryphon King’s Consort” could have used some additional scenes showing Luca and Eirian getting to know each other and enjoying each other’s company. As it is, with the exception of one afternoon and a night spent in bed, apparently the rest of the time these two were at odds with each other. This would have helped with believing they love each other. Other than that, I really liked the story and the characters.

“The Dragon CEO’s Assistant” does more filling the blanks with the characters (no pun intended given the amnesia thing.) The premise is unique and Aiden’s journey to self-discovery is quite interesting to follow along. I didn’t see the ending coming until the end, and I couldn’t stop reading until I got there, even this second time through–I knew what was coming, but I was enjoying it so much I didn’t want to stop.

Definitely recommend reading this collection if you’re looking for easy to read fantasy stories with HEA’s and angst that makes sense and doesn’t last too terribly long (I can’t stand it when things get angsty for too long with no logical reason.) Very enjoyable!

I liked the second story in this book better than I did the first. The first story was let down a bit for me because of the actions of Luca. I actually felt sorry for Eirian throughout most of the story. I really liked the second story. I liked the twist. All in all, both stories were highly enjoyable.
